I got the "Art of Mass Effect universe" artbook today. The very first paragraph in the introduction says:
"Mass effect 3 represents the achievement of an incredible goal: a major video-game series that was envisioned as a trilogy from the very start. More importantly, it is a trilogy where players decides how the story unfolds- the consequences of their decisions impact not just one game, but the entire series".
The two biggest challenges in accomplishing this ambitious plan were that each game had to become popular enough to warrnt a sequal, and -even harder- that each game had to get finished; both things are rarities in a winner-take industry where games are often delayed or cancelled altogether. Not only did our team at Bioware drive each game to completion, but each installlment went on to become a commerical and critical hit. This is a testament to the talent and professionalism of the artistis at Bioware, and to thier creative vision for the Mass effect Universe
Casey Hudson
Executive producer"
TBH I feel a bit cheated if the ending was thier idea of completion and artistic masterpiece. They seem to appear quite successful in the finanacial and publicity department though.
And that, is why we're apart of this magnificent movement my friend.

I agree, that a sacrifice ending is an acceptable way of ending a game.
One way. Like with DA:O. You HAVE to have the chance at more positive endings, but even if you discount that, we should still get closure and we should get to see our choices, deeds and decisions change the outcome, like we were promised. Legal or not.
That's why I'm going to hold the line.
Well said. Ultimately all our hard work over the three games was funneled into three terribly similar decisions that had nothing to do with the greater game universe and everything we had done. The ending felt so lacking. The entire fleet, alien and human, are suddenly stuck in our solar system and this is completely glossed over?

i am in bargaining but as they keep silent (they are like vigil - the prothean VI - they have no power left it seems, so they can't speak...and we are back to them hurting themselves (indirectly of course)...but even kicking oneself in the nuts indirectly still hurts and IMHO the bioware devs (also they lost the edge they had back with DA:O and KOTOR...hell, maybe they fired all the good designers/writers???) are intelligent people IMHO, so they should stop doing it!) i am losing hope.
hell i feel the depression sneaking up to me like that SOB Kay Leng! (just without a renegade interrupt)
well, so long (will have breakfast now

we can just do a CONSUMER BAN on all ea/bioware products untill they give us an answer about whether there will be a new ending or not.
trust me once you get a facebook group to bann all ea products with 20,000 likes we will get an answer not in days but in hours.
consumer ban is the only language these big coarperations understand and its the only tool we as consumers have, so just tell all your friend to purspone buying any ea game and we will get what we want

Maybe Bioware wants us to experience the textbook five stages of loss and grief:
Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Depression
Acceptance
Especially for Mass Effect 3, there are 5 different states of loss and grief, ther is no acceptance!

i accept this, I truly do, but my problem I really have with the ending is their attempt at an epilogue: Why is the Normandy abandoning battle - that doesnt make any sense. Also, we were told that there would be different endings, which was simply not the case.BuRnInICE wrote...

I was prepared to be forced to see Shepard have to make the ultimate sacrifice to save the galaxy. I wouldn't have liked it but I was prepared for it. I was even prepared to see the Normandy and crew die, or Earth be a devastated ruin. I wasn't prepared for what they did to the galactic civilization.
The ending makes me feel like everything Shepard and co. did, all they sacrificed, was for nothing. These endings don't count as victory. It's just trading one horrible fate (the Reapers) for another one (the collapse of civilization)
Just remember you are being told along the way (especially by Javik) that countless species have tried and failed to end the reaper cycle. You're being told that it's bigger than humanity, it's bigger than anything you can imagine. You reach the pinnacle of the cycle and you make it further than any have before. You are a tiny spec of existance in the galaxy, but you still make it. Shepard has become a legend (In Blue/Green) and his sacrifice has now made him more important than anything in the galaxy. It is bittersweet but necessary and who better to decide the fate of the galaxy? I never expected the game to end happily, it was leading up to a very gloomy moment. I had hoped he would conquer the cycle, but you could just see how much was against you and that greater matters were now at stake. It was no longer about humanity. You and your friends became insignificant to the fate of the galaxy. Chaos must be stopped/managed. I felt quite proud of my character and his sacrifice. It was poeticaly beautiful. Sad as well. All has not been lost though. (Liara is going to have little blue Shepards on a beautiful new planet)
It now brings more meaning to the name they chose "Shepard"

Seriously though, in my case Dragon Age and Mass Effect are the only EA games I've been buying. I will happily boycott....unless they come out with Baldur's Gate Remastered. I know, I am a weak person.

I ended up opening it with her right then...I had a feeling my Shep might not be there to toast the victory with her. Not quite as heartbreaking as the LI goodbye though. That was rather crushing.
