Hey thanks! I already understand the endings quite well, as do many other people (see ID theory thread on this very forum). That's not really the issue. If you look through this forum at many, many other posts, you will see a billion other issues raised about the endings. For me, not the least of it is how you're presented with the final A B C choices - which Mr. Hudson *specifically* said we wouldn't get (see second link in my sig) - with insufficient information to choose not to trust the scene. It's too jarring, too rushed.Andreastornqvist wrote...
I want to share this once again!
"TIAX RULES ALL posted:
I am making this post in an honest attempt to help people understand and appreciate the endings more. "
More than that - if we have to explain and rationalize the endings after the fact, and "help people understand," it failed. In the context of the game, before the choice, should be all available info to come to this conclsion. It's a trust issue. It's a metagaming issue. Bioware suddenly expects us to metagame and not trust the context of the game itself. Interesting idea and it could have worked - if it wasn't rushed. Could have been pulled off really well - but it wasn't.

Did they finally say something?
This one theory, that its all a dream because he was hit from the reapers, well.. hmm... I hope then his fellow mates will live, too. Perhaps they get him and bring him in cover or something like that.
I think when most players want a good ending in a game series, where most of them bought all 3 parts and most DLCs (at least I guess so), the devs etc. should hear, what they have to say. We earned the right to discuss it with them by giving them so much money.

How could it possibly be worse than what we've already got?
You find a magic wand, wave it and then three golden chocobos appear and carry the witch-king of Angmar, Dr. Robotnik and Lex Luger into battle who single-handedly defeat the reaper menace. After that, the screen goes black and the game simply states "A winner is you!" in comic sans. That's about the only thing, that could be worse than the actual ending...
Lol
Well I didn't think they could make a bad ending. I didn't even think this bad of an ending was possible til now.
Shep could get indoctinated and the reapers could retreat, then shep destroys all of the defenses she/he put in place.

If you see it slowly (from youtube) you aren't really hit by the beam, it goes all blank 1-3 second before that.

Rightio, time to post in this thread.
Up to Monday night, I have been utterly enthralled by the Mass Effect series. I have been gaming for nearly 20 years (I'm nearly 30yo), and no other series has captured my imagination nor obsession like ME. I have played through ME1 and ME2 8 times each, devoured every piece of non-spoilerish news I could find, and somehow secured a Normandy lithograph. Needless to say, ME3 was my most anticipated game of all time.
From the time I could nab my CE copy of ME3 here in Australia, and in every moment that I could spare from working on my PhD, I was riveted to my spot while playing ME3. The combat was satisfying, the sound effects punchy, and the music divine. Even co-op was surprisingly fun and strangely addictive. Most of all, however, it was the story and the characters which made ME3 simply brilliant.
Propelled along the game by the glorious cinematics and excellent voice acting, the relationships and interactions between the various characters were exceptionally well crafted. From the noble sacrifice of Mordin, the heartbreak of Liara seeing her home world fall, to the rallying of the various fleets to converge on earth (and so many more), every moment felt like it had been well crafted and honed to the finest point possible.
That is, of course, until I reached the last 10 minutes of the game. The disconnection between the final scenes to the rest of the game is simply unbelievable. Why was my Shepard, the Soldier who had given TIM the bird, talked down the quarian fleet from committing suicide and forged peace between the combined races of the galaxy, now blithely accepting the words of the apparition that had been haunting his dreams? Why was the Normandy, now carrying the very squad mates who had been at his side on Earth, traveling FTL away from the battle? Finally, how did Shepard make it back to Earth amongst the rubble of London somehow alive? Where was my closure and catharsis? I was told there would be a bittersweet ending, but all I can taste is bitterness. I feel like I've been kicked in the quad.
Shocked and bewildered, I scrambled to find an answer here in the forums. Logically, I can only make two conclusions; either the Reapers had tried to indoctrinate Shepard, with DLC to be released to complete the story, or Bioware has botched the ending of the greatest game (and therefore, series) I've ever played.
As stated above, I've completed the previous games multiple times. Three days after finishing ME3, I feel no compulsion to start a NG+ on Insanity, play co-op, nor import my FemShep since I know how it all ends. I still feel sick in the gut.
I sincerely hope that Bioware addresses our concerns about this issue very soon.
To everyone else who feels the same way as I do, and to the people who started the Retake ME3 movement, thank you. I'm relieved that there are so many other people out there who feel like I do, and yet, the discourse has remained civil and polite. The way people are channelling their frustration through raising money for Child's Play is quite inspiring and makes me proud to be a gamer.
Hold the line!
This is exactly how I feel. Great post!

Ahhh, I remember '94 well. This does pretty much sum up todays gaming. The only thing is they could make some decent after-game DLC for ME3 if they would, well, get the endings right.

However, I think the number would be negative considering I and many others will never buy another Bioware game again. For example, I was thinking of getting a gaming comp in order to play TOR, but that idea went out the window since the end of ME3. Why should I get invested in another game when they are just going to tear it all down at the end again?
Yep, I totally agree to that, we can just hope that as many gamers as possible follow this strategy.
nope... they wont..
"Players are forgetful"
now everyone raging and thay "wont buy any game from BW in the furure..."
just let them wat some month and they will buy new BW games as nothing had happend..
I am not a "fan." I am a loyal customer. Right now, my trust in this company is nil. It's as much to do with their handling of the situation, and the snarky BS thrown at us, as it does the endings themselves. Calling us "fans" is insidious. If I buy any other product in any other industry, I am a customer, not a "fan."
Well I buyed all the books (excluding the last one, the inconsistencies postet here in the forum made my decision) comics and games (hell i have ME2 two times couldn't get the collectors edition on day one, buyed the normal one instead and half a year later the collectors edition I just had to have it) including all dlc. And although I consider myself a fan. It doesn't change the fact that I'm still a buying costumer.
That costumer side of me won't forget what they did here, the ending -> their reaction -> and if it even comes, the ending dlc.
And if it should turn out that they planned it from the beginning then it's a fraud in my opinion = they simply don't deserve my trust anymore.
If it turns out that it wasn't planned then they lost all sense of reality = again they don't deserve trust again.
My Opinion

I found the endings to be quite similar; heres why.
1. Synthesis Ending - Helios Ending.
Synthesis bring the organic and synthetic creatures together to form a new form of evolutionary step in human.
Helios ending has JC Denton fuse with the Helios super computer/AI to form a new being of untold power and intelligence and yet has the same sensibilities and ambition of a human being. In Deus Ex 2; JC Denton's ending is to link all humans on earth so they can share thoughts and feeling so they can understand each other better.
2. Controlling the Reaper Ending - Illuminati Ending
Controlling the Reapers and sending them off in space under your control. It is kind of unknown if Sheppard dies or he becomes a Reaper himself being some kind of king of the Reapers.
The illuminati ending has you maintaining the status quo in the balance of power. J.C becomes one of the major heads controlling the world with the illuminati's influence. One might say hes is one of the Kings of the world.
3. Destroying all synthetic life Ending - Tracer Tong Ending
By destroying all synthetic life, Sheppard also destroy all synthetic components and technology in the world making it regress by several years. This is also aggravated by the fact that the Citadel AND the mass relays are also gone leaving no way to recover these technologies. Also, this effect is Galaxy wide meaning some planets like those of the Krogan, are set back to the stone ages.
Finally, the Tracer Tong ending ends all meanings of communication and technology in the world. Some kind of kill-switch that disables electricity, power plants and everything starts to explodes sending the earth back to the dark ages.

And all of us who didn't bother to slave over multiplayer for hours didn't get to see the rubble/ragged breath scene, so for us Shepard stays dead no matter what. Another promise the devs broke when they said the multiplayer wouldn't affect the SP.
Whatever the outcome of this, my trust and love for BioWare and ME have been seriously injured, and I'm not sure it can be repaired.
