Would have been better if they had sent in Banshee Barrier instead of Marauder Shields. I'm sure she'd have done a better job preventing the ending.

So true.

As for the new Forbes article....I seriously love them. I can't believe Forbes is one of our War Assets....I would've never believed it if I didn't read it with my own eyes. Gawd, they're awesome.

It's so weird that Forbes is probably reporting on this the most fairly.

I mean... jeez.

What breaks my heart is that I had so much fun with the game I want to start another play through...except I don't because I know it will be pointless. I have a FemShep waiting to save the galaxy and I don't have the heart to tell her that she will end up destroying it.

I started another playthrough of ME1 this afternoon, Kaidan and Garrus all the way...I'm sitting here looking at my monitor, sighing and saying "I'm so sorry guys, you're with me at the beginning and you don't know this yet but you'll be with me at end, the soul mate and the best friend", it feels, weird and pointless...:crying:

Talk about missing opportunity here. BW could easily gain a lot of support by just coming clean and saying: "we acknowledge the love our fans have demonstrated, and will work hard to give what they want". And release a whole new ME ending. It would get them the media support, fan support, and they could pose as the company that works hard to deserve the loyalty of the fans (which undeniably exists).

But doing nothing???

Exactly. There's an opportunity for a huge win on the part of Bioware, here, and they're squandering it.

Or this simply says that now that they have our money they do not care.

I mean, shouldn't they be happy that we love the series so much and that we had such high expectations for ME3? They should feel proud of themselves, because they made such an amazing ME universe and we love it so much that we can't accept this half**** ending...just saying :P

It's all about money people. Do the reaserch and the math. It's not rocket science. But I will say not everyone has the time or resources. Just take my word for it.

No kidding!  The CEO of the company I worked at was asking me this morning if I knew anything about the game in his daily article hahaha.  Forbes is like wall street... maybe that's why Bioware keeps thinking we're a minority.. they're confusing us with the 1% ;)

Argh. Edited to fix line breaks...

Some thoughts; I know it's a WALL OF TEXT, but please read and comment if you've caught it in this supersonic thread...

(Warning: YMMV. Void Where Prohibited. Some readers of this message may experience heart palpitations, sweating, joint pain, or congestive heart failure. Please stop reading immediately and see your doctor if you notice swelling of the lymph nodes, skin irritation, change in bladder function, or sudden death.)

So... I'm not a game developer, but I've designed and developed commercial and business applications for [mumble-mumbledy] years. For those of you who might not know much about software development in general, it's VERY risky and filled with landmines from beginning to end. Statistics show that 50% of all software development projects fail or are canceled before completion. Toward the end of monumental, all-or-nothing projects like ME3, the pressure is tremendous. I've no doubt that's why we don't see a lot of successful trilogies in the gaming world. With every release, I'd imagine that expectations and complexity increase almost exponentially. Risk goes through the roof, and risk mitigation eats up significant percentages of effort and budget.

I've made some somewhat harsh statements earlier in the thread, but getting a glimpse of internal perspective -- carefully reading and re-reading some of the comments from moderators last night on that other thread -- helps balance my perspective. In the case of the ME3 ending, all here believe the result failed completely or to some degree, but it's clear the team was feeling its way through difficult trade-offs and genuinely trying to deliver something
that some or all of them thought was "right." Not going to help to be harsh about it, even if their perspectives might be difficult for us to "get inside of," so I'm going to lay off the sarcasm and stop getting sucked into swirling conspiracy theories. I'm certainly not going to presume I can suggest that anyone else do the same, but I wish all of you would seriously consider it.

That doesn't mean I've changed my mind about the ending. But I'm encouraged, because this glimpse of insider perspective gives me more confidence that, if we present well-thought-out arguments in a civil and emotion-free fashion, this is the kind of dedicated team that will give them fair consideration (to the degree constraints allow).

That said, keep in mind that their development process is necessarily "heavy." Games are tremendously more complex than business software. It's a big team, and that means big overhead. Changes would be expensive. Even if team leads find merit in any of our points, they might have a very hard sell ahead of them to recure approval. I'm
saying that to suggest that everyone be prepared for the possibility that even a partial resolution might be the very best we can ever expect to get, and there are any number of real constraints that could make any desire to address our concerns impossible to act on.

What gives me hope, though, is that customer satisfaction and brand loyalty ARE important to BioWare, and media attention has become significant enough that some public response is at least probable. We may see a "let's wait" approach first, because many corporations will see if storms are going to blow over before they consider any action, but I'm pretty confident that some sort of response is forthcoming.

Finally, there's the issue of pride and reputation, at both the team and company levels. If it were me, I have to admit I'd find it hard to let go of something I might have spent a lot of time developing and energy & emotion pitching. It takes time to get past that. Sometimes it never happens -- the verdict is that what was done is just fine, thank you. We have to be mature enough to acknowledge that we're expressing our opinion, and those responsible for evaluating that opinion may simply disagree. That we might find it difficult to understand that perspective is irrelevant, really, as painful as it is to say that.

Just making observations, folks, and letting you know how my thoughts have been "evolving." I don't expect everyone to agree, but I think we can be firm and more civil and considerate at the same time. Looking back, I haven't always done that. Careful attention to not letting our frustration come out as sarcasm or personal insults/attacks sure isn't
going to decrease our chances of being heard. And I've been finding that, for me, being civil just feels better. So much better.

Maybe I only needed to say this to myself. If that's your take, consider this a personal journal entry that I pasted into the wrong window, laugh, and move on...

In closing, I'd like to remind everyone of something the moderators emphasized last night: BioWare/EA considers this a company-level "issue." Employees cannot respond to it with any detail. I made light of this in a recent post, but shouldn't have. All corporations do this once an issue's been escalated as this one undoubtedly has. It's not as if they've issued some sort of gag order; EA's a publicly-held company, and so a single message has to be delivered to ensure the consistency of information outflow that helps shore up shareholder confidence. I don't expect it to be much more than an apologetic at first, but it will come before very long. Also, I honestly believe BioWare is trying to understand whether this is a "vocal minority" event or a broader consensus that spans all their target markets. That analysis won't take long, but it won't happen until a larger percentage of customers complete the game and provide feedback.

So let's stop badgering BioWare folks for answers they can't give. If we'd stopped to think about it from their perspective we'd have already realized that and could have avoided a lot of animosity, IMO.

In the meantime, Stanley Woo's statement (pasted below) is going to be the best we can expect to get, I think. It's not
the statement I wish we could hear right now, but he didn't have to come online and make it, so I appreciate that he made the effort to interact with us to the extent he felt he could.

"BioWare listens to all feedback when we release games. Not just those praising our games, and not just those who have issues and concerns with our games. We don't listen only to our community, or only to popular websites. Even if we don't respond immediately or to your satisfaction, BioWare appreciates its fanbase--all of it, even the part of it taking a break from BioWare games--and the feedback it provides. We will not always agree, and you will not always like what we do, but that's not going to stop us from striving to do better in the future. And we hope that, like us or not,
you will come along for the ride because, hey, we might make something you'll really like next time. You are always
welcome."

So, FWIW... there it is.

SkaldFish out. And... be careful out there.

In this case they can be sure a lot of people will not buy new DLC for ME3 :wizard:
