I will be in Japan tomorrow and I can already hear my friends moaning about this game. One of them has already warned me that if the ending is terrible he will throw his xbox off the balcony of the apartment.......I'm not sure what to do. If I don't tell him how bad it is, he will be throwing a large sum of money out the window soon...

Tell us what people in Japan think of the ending please.

isnt that a safety hazard?

Let me start by saying I still hate the ending and eager to hold the line.

But has anyone read the April 2012 edition of Game Informer?

In it's Timeline section it marks the 25th of April as "Mass Effect's Story Continues," stating that:

"Commander Shepard's story is expected to end in Mass Effect 3, but that doesn't mean that Mass Effect universe will cease to be. Lead writer Mac Walters is continuing Mass Effect's story in a new ongoing Dark Horse comic series that focuses on Shephard's crew. Each issue takes a look at a different character. The first story is about James Vega."

That dun sound too good, Jim.

That kind of makes me wonder who will be interested in buying a comic book about a character who is likely already dead... Or else stranded on a planet somewhere. I personally liked Vega a lot more than I thought I would (which really isn't saying much), but knowing the ending of all this mess, is it even worth it to figure out how he got there in the first place?

Sadly, that's the same way I feel about most Mass Effect stuff right now. Why do I need to see character development again? X_X

Wait.. Walters wrote thee eding to ME and nowhe's writing the ME3 universe for Dark horse?? a Well, no wonder he seems so defensive.. thats a lot of potential income. Of course, if he had to redo the ending of ME3, then Dark Horse would need him to rewrite the story, or drop him, which would understandably be not so good for him.. at least, not profitable.. Of course, either way, it feels like we've been more than used, and hhe semingly intends on doing it again..

It's hilarious reading this thread really - most want a better ending - few are sure what the description of a better ending means. A quarter to a half demand Bioware produce a new ending they refuse to pay for and the other half says they'll gladly pay - I'm in the latter category.

Everyone uses - Hold the line - for what? A paid ending? A free ending? A new ending? More and more fan written ending popping up that will never see any light beyond this thread. Those I don't even bother to read - none of them mean anything unless BW decides to make one themselves. We're so fractured we don't even know what our demand is -

On the contrary.. We want an ending that meets the quality and standards that Bioware has come to be known for.  We're united in our dislike for the current drivel that was spoonfed to us in the ending presented.  They know they can deliver better, we know they can.. we're holding the line and not letting them off with a pass.

Holding the line for what? A free ending? An ending we pay for? Which?

An ending period.  Something that is better than what they gave us.. I realize it's kinda hard to wrap one's head around, it's not asking for as much as some are putting out there lol.  We just want something that has the quality the rest of the GAME presented in it.  Not 'red, green or blue', I want to know that the effort I put into the game is represented in the finale of it.  I want to know that if I spent a gazillion hours getting everyone in the galaxy to freaken play nice that it stands for something, that it's not the end, that if my character has to die for something it's something worthwhile.  I want to see National Shepard Day.. and not the sheep version.

I would say the Request not demand is for the choice we were told would be a part of the game to be a part of 100% of the game.

I also dont want to replace the current ones I just want more and I want a chance of choosing how the story of the shepard I created ends thats not an unreasonable thing to ask I think

I fully agree. Its all about choice so we should be able to choose how our journey ends. I don't mind the current endings but there should be another option for those that want a happier end.

For me, just an ending, an ending that makes sense. Free, paid, Happy, Sad, it makes no difference. I'm holding the line for closure, for something other than that "epilogue" (which it really isn't) with Buzz Aldrin.

Re: Alberta

Right now? We're holding the line for a new ending, period. It'd be good business sense for Bioware/EA to make it free, but there are definitely those who'd pay just to make it go away. I think Forbes said it best when they commented that paying to make an ending suck less is a trick that will only work once, though.

No matter how hopeless things seem remember that it is better to fight and lose than to believe defeat is inevitable and not resist at all. And defeat is not assured, we actually have a chance to actually get some proper resolution, which just makes it all the more worth fighting for.

No matter what others say, no matter what cheap shots are taken at us, and no matter how much Bioware gives the naysayers a wink and a nudge we will be remembered for directing our negative energy into something positive and constructive, and we will all always remain comrades.

Well said. I actually had to disappear for a while yesterday because I was too depressed thinking about all of it - had to go watch some Harry Potter and try to cheer up. I'd much rather stick this through and lose than just give up. Even if nothing comes of it, it's an honor to be here with all the fantastic people who are fighting to get an ending or ending/s that take our choices into account.

I noticed another let down... you can skip the combat(not the ones when you got to keep someone alive) by just running passed the enemies. I realized this when I was doing the final mission over to see if that really was the end or if I picked the wrong choice(they all suck).

True. OTOH, that fact (that enemies will "forget" you if you're far enough away) forms the core of my brilliant strategy against banshees:

1. Scream like a baby and run as far away as possible
2. Insert squadmates as decoys
3. Shoot repeatedly with sniper rifle
4. (Banshee kills squadmates, eventually retargets)
5. Scream like a baby and run as far away as possible
6. Revive squadmates, insert as decoys
7. Shoot repeatedly with sniper rifle

...repeat as necessary...

I call it the "Shepard Is Too Creeped Out By Banshees To Pretend Not To Be Scared S***less" strategy.

I have no shame.

Just an ending to what is one of the best gaming stories in History.

So we can draw a line on it and say yeah my 100's of hours of Mass Effecting were worth it.
I guess if they make it, it'll be up to each of us as to payment etc.

But just an ending will do for now.

We know what we want; a better ending, plain and simple.  One that closes off the series, and shows that our decisions matter.  That is something we -all- agree on.

When I saw the Mass Effect 3 ending I turned off my console at the credits, turned it back on And deleted all my saves. Still angry about the ending since last Friday when I beat it. Not happy about ending at all. Would Have preferred one that made sense and was more like LOTR ending.

Dang. I've been rummaging around after hearing about all fuss that happened, and holy jeez.

If I was a Bioware Producer I would be pissing my pants. The explosion of such fan outrage, and such universal outrage, was frightening.

This wasn't just holding the line. People got enraged and charged en masse. Then the mods had to shut down the site for half an hour in order for people to calm down. If anything, this demonstrates to the producers exactly how carefully they need to deal with this, and I can safely assume that more than a couple of people are actually considering closure DLC at this point.
