I'm OK with Shepherd dying at the end. I was hoping there would be a way to avoid it like there was with the"suicide mission" in ME2 but the was sufficient foreshadowing that I was pretty much expecting Shepherd would be forced to martyr himself. I would have been cool with that. The thing that pissed me off is that he ended up dying in order to achieve one of three different flavors of failure. Moridin had a good death, sacrificing his life to cure the genophage. Thane had a good death, fighting to defend those he cared for. Shepherd... did not die well, and that's the biggest reason I'm unhappy. The choices were to control the reapers, which Anderson and Shepherd had just convinced the IM would be a completely irresponsible gamble with humanity's future, turn all life into cyborgs, which is exactly what I had been fighting to prevent theReapers from doing, or commit genocide on the Geth and murder EDI. And to top it all off all three options would essentially cripple galactic civilization. I wouldn't consider any of these a win worth sacrificing your life for.
