Commenting on Forbes contributer Dave Their's piece yesterday about Chris Priestly's "We're Listening" thread here on BSN, Rob Munsch said something really profound about the game industry's insistence on referring to us as "fans:"

"Fans are demanding, cranky, unreasonable, over-emotional, easily discounted. Nice to have, but not vital. When you stop pretending they’re 'fans,' and start thinking of them as 'customers,' that will be the real ground-breaker."

This is so very true.

It's no accident that the industry uses that term. It elevates the vendor to the status of celebrity/artist and diminishes the customer to the status of, well, fanatic.

We are customers of BioWare and consumers of a product. This doesn't give us the right to be obnoxious jerks, of course, but it does elevate us from the status of drooling, crazed fanatics to the status of reasonable people who are approaching the reasonable people at BioWare to engage in reasonable dialogue about a serious consumer issue.

Never forget that.

Heads high, shoulders back, eyes on the goal. Hold the line.

Yes he can, in fact, he took me out on my second time through the ending. I restarted because I thought I must have screwed something up and I let my guard down ;-)

Replace "fans" with "customers" in a lot of the hack video game journalist articles berating us for having outspoken opinions and see how dumb they read.

This is about money too and leaving it 'as is' will cost a lot more than fixing it.
Its not a bad thing to admit maybe you screwed up on the ending
Ya get more respect doing that than saying nothing and 'd hate to be the guy having to go sell DLC in the future if its just N7 missions and MP maps. If its not about the story i bet more people will give up

i will lose my 100% achvievement for the series it appears. I am just three short and could get them tomorrow but todays crap just deflated the fun i was having with my insanity run

I first thought the retake ME3 ending movement was a movement by spoiled fans who simply disliked something little about the end. I was prepared to write it off as Internet rage, business as usual.

Then, I actually beat the game...

Now I'm here with my BSN account that I haven't been on since DA:O. Congrats BW. This is that it took to get me to get off my ass.

Instead of celebrating a player’s smart choices or punishing a player’s poor choices, the game makes them count for virtually nothing. Even if a new “choice” is added if you do well in amassing a large fleet (the Synthesis choice only comes about if you have a high enough military strength) the game still forces you to bow to the will of another and that is the antithesis of choice. Choices are so important to the whole series but the biggest one at the end of the finale is the one that isn’t a true “free will” choice. It’s like if a gun is pointed at your head and you needed to choose one of three horrible deaths, is that really free will? Shouldn’t the choice to try to fight off your attacker (regardless of how futile it is) be there?

This is what I've been saying from the start. Shepard should take a chunk of bulkhead and beat the star child into submission with it, rather then go along with this galactic rail-roading.

The indoctrination theroy has already been proven wrong by "bioware posts/twitter/etc".
But yes, i would love to hear that it is actually true and we will see the real ending in an expansion pack or maybe even ME4.
But if this would be the case, Bioware would have told us (possibly even before the official ME3 release).

So... sorry to disapoint you.

I've been saying this for a long time, but in order for it to mean anything we have to stop acting like crazed fans and remember that we are consumers of a "product"; I don't pay cash because I'm a fan, I pay because I want a product that will allow me to escape reality for a few hours, and yes, I do want to feel good about myself at the end of the product, this product failed to deliver and took away the greatness of the rest of the product.
