He died a hero; he tried to stop us from getting to the ending.

Marauder shields was a hero.
He tried to warn us about the endings.
We shoot right in his face though, before he had time to explain why he was there.
Now we're doomed.

But he will be remembered forever

Now while I don't think ME3 is a "bad" game, the way DA2 was, my confidence in this company is severely damaged by the slap in the face that was it's ending - and the way it's been handled (plus a lot of issues with swtor, also neglecting its fanbase in favor of "tried and true" mass market appeal)

In order to be honest I have to admit, that I would rather play through DA2 again, than even spending one hour with mass effect, just thinking of it hurts me.

Fulgrim88 wrote...
Point is; the next games Bioware will release will be new franchises. There will be no emotional ties, no obligation to buy them, other than our trust in wether or not Bioware can be trusted to make games we will enjoy.
Something they've gone a long way to damage, now.

Hopefully you are right, but it's debatable that they will really be starting new franchises anytime soon, especially with EA on board, who are, without a doubt, absolute masters when it comes to milking a cashcow with serials. (EA sports games or the ongoing torture of the C&C franchise anyone?)

Actually they would lose a lot more than people think; consumers we are.  We are the ones that end up paying for their paychecks.   Its doesn't just hurt ME; this also hurts MMOs tied to EA; other games.  I know lots are not continueing their subs with TOR until this is settled.

I seriously hope you are right with that, but I highly doubt it, only once I have seen a boycott on a game developer actually work and that wasn't some giant company like BioWare but a small studio...

MeldarthX wrote...
BW can very well pull magic out of the bag on this one

Hardly. It's quite clear that they have NOTHING prepared right now, so even if they would be willing to cater to our protest and change the ending, the would have to do everything from scratch: new cutscenes, new storylines, get the voice actors back to the studio and so on...
A task like that takes months to complete, so there is no hope for the near future.

That's where we disagree..........as I've stated in my theory and others are starting to see it also.  Indoctrination theory fits so well - not just for Shepard...........but us also..........its planned - all the hints on the tweets; one about the guardian is lieing..........another tweet; have you finished ME 3?  after guy said he had; which hints at no you haven't.......

BW plan; *this is theory and guesswork* is they wanted polized discussion on the ending for couples after when everyone had the game and then announce *free or not; I would say free* DLC for endings.........also tweet about; if customers knew what we had in store for them; they wouldn't think this way.

What I believe now has happened was BW/EA weren't prepared for just how many people hate the ending.  Love the game; but ending just........ugh.......that's what's caught them off guard.

All of this is just Circumstantial evidence - but it makes for a very compelling case.

I'd rather have them create real, meaningful and most of all diverse endings, rather than just hastily patch this one up with the indoc-theory just so it ends up being somewhat less bad.

I wouldn't mind waiting a few months for that.

If they don't owe it to us, they owe it to their own creation.
Mass Effect deserves better than this

They still have DA3 in development and ME3 DLC for 1 year. Acutally after DA2 and ME3 people will probably watch the endings before they become invested in the DA3 story assuming it ties up all the loose ends from DA:O, Awakening and DA2. Is it worth to spend $60 dollars and not get a conclusion to the story? Might aswell buy 3 really good books that will take you 100 hours of engrossing sci-fi story with a proper ending.

So is anyone here goining to buy dragon age 3 where the ending is a dream in the fade?

I think I'll buy this game instead

I would bet a cool 500 that Bioware WILL respond to the ending complaints. The fans have been too vocal, here and elsewhere. As a company that builds on franchises which have prooven popular with fans, it behooves them not too. The ending is clearly, largely unpopular.

With that said, Bioware being Bioware, it will take them an absurdly long time to actually respond to these feelings (I think that they are listening and the official Mass Effect twitter's responding to complaints lately is the largest indication we will have for a while.)

The good thing is that the game as a whole isn't a disaster and most of us agree that the majority of the game is amazing. All they need to do is expand on the finale, clear up the plots holes and provide some more emotional resolution imo. It won't be a ton of work.

I'm up for that. I'm tired of being ignored (Write a post in which you say "I'm listening" is too cheap). No more Bioware for me. Nu-nu.

As I said a coupleof hundred pages back(It was yesterday, but given how fast this thread moves), With the Dragon Age franchise the trust is broken. At least Mike laidlaw admitted that mistakes were made.

So far my trust in Mass effect is shaken. It's not broken - yet. That means as long as there's no real statement on the endings whatsoever, there's no incentive to buy any future DLCs or games. As long as theres no DLC to change the ending, why should I buy Story DLC? Same with multiplayer dlc.

However, one thing you should never forget: Propaganda is very powerful. It worked on us and we bought ME3, but it also works on those who haven't bought it yet. I warned him a couple of days ago to not buy it until it's either very cheap or the ending is fixed. His reply: "Damn it looked good, well then I'll wait with buying it.

I just wanted to add that in no way do I wish Bioware any ill. They are very good at what they do and i have been a fan since Baldurs gate but this is a horrible way to sour that relationship. I forgave DA2 as no-one is perfect.

The fact I am not alone and there is an overwhelming amount of people out there who are as dissapointed and angry as me about this makes me feel better, but I still can't quite believe it. I can't comprehend why Bioware would do this to the creation they must surely love as we do.

That is why, as an optimist at heart I still hope there is a larger picture here we are as yet unaware of and all will be fine, with this I still have faith in Bioware. Sadly, if all my hope is for nought and this turns out to be the true end, I can categorically state I will not buy from Bioware again.

So, thankyou Bioware for all the great moments but if this is to be the way ME ends, my custom ends also.  I wish Bioware every success with their new fanbase.

Haha, I knew the Japanese would eventually come up with a nickname. Be glad they aern't making threat notes

P.S. if there are any Japanese citizens here who felt offended by that, I am sorry. It was in no way supposed to be a mean comment...just a reference for NG Evangelion and how its ending was dealt with.

I am right there with you; I also let Dragon Age 2 slide and didn't complain or call it a dreadful game. It is disappointing as a sequel but as a stand alone game it good. If Bioware wished that Mass Effect end like this...hey, I am done buying from them.

I'm not too sure of that. As of right now, the game has great critical reviews, and has only been out for a week. Many of the big review sites, such as IGN are posting stories about how rediculous fan complaints are.

If they come out and say there is a problem and they have to fix it, which they doubltessly eventually will, that is likely to have some kind of negative impact on sales in the short term.

Sigh... I don't know why Penny-arcade think you have to be "True" sci-fi fans to understand the "beauty" of ME3... I actually feel sorry for them if they can take this amount of beating and feel good about it. Also it seems they don't give any proper light to the faults and instead cling onto their "True" sci-fi fan theme...

Well at least now everyone is able to understand why he doesn't have a problem with the ending, in the middle of his rambling, he openly admits that he is not that much of a ME-fan...

Sure, if you are just some casual gamer who doesn't know yet alone care about the backstory, it might actually be fun "to shoot da alienz 'n stuff", but on the other hand you have no right to judge people who complain over things you don't understand in the first place anyway.
