I hear that you if cast Tali, the VS, or Garrus away as war assets for the Hammer team, they remain on Earth and survive, but you don't get to use them as part of your squad during the game. Guess that is a loophole to help save the squadmates you like the most. Joker and Liara still get spaced, though.
So we can't get the ending we want after all?

While it's difficult to give an estimate on how long it would take, I think that's the real point here. There will be billions, if not trillions of people across the galaxy that want to get back home, see loved ones or any number of reasons for needing the quick interstellar travel that the Mass Relays provide.Humanoid_Typhoon wrote...

If people complain load enough Bioware might make an alternative ending pack.
One thing I can say that the relays being gone doesnt mean the end of everythign and eternal solitude. They can be rebuild with time and effort. As can galactic society.
That would take tens of thousands of years since they don't even know how the relays work.
The asari i think created a mass effect relay on a smaller scale. We have a prothean on our side. I dont think itd be that far in the future
And you're right there would be multiple species working on the same problem and if they are all somewhat isolated there could be many different ways to travel the galaxy.
I'd like to add though, as far as I can tell, interstellar communications is not dependant on the Mass Relays. We hear references to "comm bouys" off and on, if that's the case, then all those seperated planets will still be able to communicate, which could speed recovery (and likely allow contact with survivors who may be stranded).
I got the impression that communications between systems did in fact use the relays. That the relays were always in communication and the comms simply piggybacked on that feed. If this is true, every system is cut off.

and do you have the entire ending in context? No you don't.
You are just another poster who judges an ending based of incomplete information.
And you are yet another member who is shoving his fingers in his ears and saying, "I can't hear the naysayers! They don't exist! The endings are perfect!"

BGII was more polished sure, but PST by far has a better narrative, a better character cast, and the best protagonist in an RPG.
Really BGII isn't as good as Ultima VII either.....and fan made Ultima V Lazarus has a far more compelling plot and universe than the BG series.

Planescape is an awesome game, but I liked BG+TOB better. I think the reason is that in BG I felt like it was my character more than in PS:T.Nyaore wrote...

Ok I give up. Could someone please summarize the endings for me without spoiling the middle of the game. I need to mentally prepare myself for them.
Just look at the youtube videos; they're posted over at: social.bioware.com/group/5245/discussion/19647/
That's enough preparation.

It would be moronic to think the endings were perfect. Hell, I would consider them perfect if 75% of people like them. It's not the case.

The odds of building a new mass relay system (and it takes a system right?) in less than a few thousand years is pretty low as all eezo tech quits. The relays are eezo tech right? So what do we replace that with? Both our and the Prothean technology was based heavily on reaper tech (eezo tech). We would have to completely rethink everything and start over.
Well, it looks like the Reaper-based technology is what goes. I'd have a hard time buying that the ending causes all eezo to be destroyed as well, especially with the idea that eezo is naturally-occurring and the basic resource involving mass effect technology rather than a product of Reaper tech. Plus, you get all kinds of fridge horror, lingering questions and plot holes that arise from the ending like "what happens to biotics?" or "wouldn't the Citadel and gazillions of ships blowing up in low-Earth orbit cause a global-scale, ongoing, generational eezo exposure to billions of humans?".
Depending which way you want to go there that means humanity's either evolved to be more biotic as a race than the freakin' Asari or extinct in a couple generations since the birth rate would drop to almost zero in a matter of months.
And, back to riffing mode, it's simple. The scattered remnants of the fleet and human survivors build a giant super-mothership that has automated mass relay production facilities to fly out from Sol and re-seed the galaxy with mass relays. It could refill its energy reserves by flying into stars' coronas and everything. What, of all the science fiction series' Mass Effect riffs off, Stargate's right close to the bottom of that list...needs more Stargate.
