BioWare Edmonton

Dear Sir or Madam,
I write to you today, conflicted. First and foremost, let me say I have the utmost respect for BioWare, and the content creators they employ. The people who work and represent BioWare have shown consistently that their dedication to their products, and their fans; is far above and beyond excellent.
Having said that, I feel I must bring my concerns to bear. I’ve been playing video games all of my life. Throughout my many years of gaming, I’ve come across many great experiences. All of which have reinforced my belief that games are a truly great medium, capable of engaging those who play them far more than any other form of media. An excellent example of this is the Mass Effect series.
I first played Mass Effect, on January 25, 2010. I realized, somewhat late, that Mass Effect 2 was coming out, and I still hadn’t played the first Mass Effect! I started playing that day, and I didn’t stop until I finished 10 hours later, at 4 AM. To put it simply, I was amazed! The setting, the characters, the gameplay, and most importantly, the story, were all incredible. I went out the next day, and I bought a Collector’s Edition copy of Mass Effect 2. Two years later, On March 6th, I picked up my Collector’s Edition pre-order of Mass Effect 3.
All in all, I’ve put approximately 150 hours of gameplay into the Mass Effect series. To be honest, it’s been a wild ride. A ride, which I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of. Mass Effect 3 is the crowning achievement for the series. The gameplay is top notch. The music is tailor fit to each scene. The graphics are beautiful. Most importantly however, the story is marvellous. I’ll save you the details and just say it was an emotional rollercoaster. As soon as I started I was hooked, and I think I can safely say it was honestly the best experience I have ever had in a video game, or any other form of media for that matter.
Unfortunately however, it all came crashing down; all within the last ten minutes. In the end I was presented with three choices. I was confused, none of the choices were right. I didn’t want to destroy all Synthetics, not after I had just made peace between the Quarians and the Geth. I didn’t want to control the Reapers, not after I had just told the Illusive Man that he was crazy for wanting to try. The only option that seemed remotely viable was Synthesis, which was still confusing, and poorly explained. Of course, when the final cut scene began to play I knew it simply didn’t matter. Regardless of how much I had done, how much time I had spent, how much I tried to make
everything perfect, there was no way to have a proper ending. It was over. Shepard was dead. The crew wrecked on a planet. All the relays destroyed. No closure. The only magic in that final moment came from Clint Mansell and Faunts.
Now I’m not saying the ending was bad because it was sad. I believe the biggest fault with the ending was a breakdown of the core ideas of the Mass Effect series. First, your character, was no longer your own. Regardless of how good of a Paragon or how much of a badass Renegade you were, Shepard always reacted the same way. Presented with poor logic and extremely limited options, all by a ghostly figure of a child he briefly saw in a warzone, he simply took the knowledge he was presented at face value. There was no back and forth, and no challenging what so ever on the validity of the “Star Child’s” claims. Second, and far more crucial, is the complete abandonment of the player’s choices. Regardless of Galactic Readiness, reputation, alliances, past choices or events, nothing affects the endings and their outcomes. You could argue that the final cutscene changes slightly by a few seconds, if your Effective Military Strength is high enough. Aside from those minor variations however, everything is set in stone.
What happened to the suicide mission from Mass Effect 2? If you took your time, made upgrades, planned, and made sure your squad was loyal, you could make sure that everyone made it out alive. Conversely, if you didn’t
take your time, your entire team, and Shepard would end up dying. Why do I need to listen to this child? Why can’t I simply say “No.”? Why is it that regardless of the fact that I united the entire galaxy, my choices boil down to 3 mediocre options, all of which end up ruining galactic civilization? What happened to doing the impossible?
Finally, there are a few general issues as well. Where did the Illusive Man come from on the Citadel? How are my squad mates that were on the ground with me teleported to the Normandy? Why is the Normandy flying away from an active warzone?
Taking this all together I’m met with an immutable fact. Something needs to change. That’s why I’ve written this letter. I humbly request, along with all other members of the #RetakeMassEffect movement, that something is done about this ending. The Mass Effect series is far too great to end on a whimper. The members of this community have shown their dedication to this cause. Through forums, polls, petitions, and even donations, we’ve shown just how much we care. I can't say for sure what the best course of action for fixing this issue is. Personally, I would prefer some form of free DLC, or even paid DLC. I'm sure my fellow members of the movement will also have some great ideas.
I suppose to many people this much emotional response to a video game would be odd. However, I think it’s safe to say that anyone who has become invested in any form of media can relate. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this letter. I along with many other fans, hope to hear back soon from BioWare. Until then, we'll keep holding the line.
Best Regards,

EDIT: GRAH STUPID FORMATING.
Well written.
It conveys our points, and at least to anyone at Bioware that shares our love for the series (I know there are some), this'll make an awful lot of sense.

If I had a time machine, I'd go back to the day where I purchased Mass Effect, punch myself in the face, and steal all of my money so I can't buy it. I'd say, "You will thank me later".
Haha thats brilliant, though for me I would digitally punch my friend who suggested Mass Effect to me. I fell in love with the game as soon as I played it, and done many play throughs and now I feel like it wasn't worth the effort.
I have sugged the games to others, and actually bought them for someone. I feel bad about it now, lol (knowing they would have to play ME3 as well)

Then I went ahead and played the demo, but something felt... off. I ignored it and when ME3 came in the mail the day before my birthday, I was ecstatic. I picked up the package and ran back into the house and got it out and installed it and started playing, the off feeling was still there during the start but that faded as time went on. And I was having the time of my life.
And then, the ending. I felt like I had been beaten and spat on by this. It was truly a betrayal. All my decisions, all that enjoyment I got from all those hours in the previous two games meant nothing. I was hurt. But I am giving BioWare, one chance, one. And so far, they are botching it.
For me, and for all my fellow fans,
I WILL HOLD THE DAMN LINE!

*Changing Game to "Elcor" Scroll V: Skyzim*
*Loading main charachter "Space Magic"*
*Using his Hand Magic i'll cast Rise Dead on Marauder Shields*
Goikiu: Hi Marauder, how are you?
Marauder: How? You've killed me, ****, however i'm paid for that, what ya want?
Goikiu: There is really only one end to ME3?
Marauder: Well... You can choose from green, blue, red traffic light or you can be shoot by me... in the Beta Version there is another Ending, you can slip and die when you go up the Citadel with Garrus.
But it was cutted within the final version.

Just had a read of it. Beating around the bush a lot isn't he? I guess it's massive damage control mode for Bioware and EA right now I'm not terribly surprised. Still holding the line in the Great White North though.

So who else is going to be playing Operation Raccoon City instead of Mass Effect 3? I figure it'll provide enough entertainment for myself coupled with Skyrim to get me through not wanting to play ME3. :/
I cannot.
I got an Xbox, so to play MP i need a Gold Account, i work, so i've got 1h/day to play (or near here), paying so much to play 1h/day won't be fun for me.
But you can play for me too
