I'm fine with ripping off the first or the third, I can't really imagine anyone trying to rip off the second. It'd be like trying to rip off Star Control 3. 95% of people wouldn't get the joke, and the other 5% of people would probably just end up lighting you on fire.
Heh. I actually liked DE2. And I still can't stand the ending to ME3. What does that say about how bad it is?

Just checking in and adding my voice to the throng. Since I finished the game a couple of days ago I've been mulling over what exactly my feelings are about this whole business. Quite frankly, though it sounds a little sensationalist, I feel like I'm in shock.
Not shock at the bad ending, per se. More like shock at how they could have thought this was an acceptable way to end a series.
They promised us an epic conclusion to the saga. Instead, I'm left wondering why I wasted probably several days of my life playing these games. I'm also wondering if I'll ever trust Bioware again after this.
Anyway, more as I think of it.

Be honest...how many of you raged and was like "NOOOO!!! WHYYYY?!!" when the credits rolled?
When the StarChild gave me the 3 choices I stood up and simply wondered what the hell was happening. Then I saw the ending sequence, with the Normandy flying god knows where while I destroy all synthetic life instead of punching that kid to death, and I felt kinda insulted. After that came the gasping metal plate, the credits and the stargazer.
"NOOOOO!!! WHYYY?!!" doesn't completely cover what I felt.
I just re-watched the final episode from Buffy, Chosen, trying to get past this. Didn't really help. Buffy did say to hold the line to Faith though...
For a proper way to kill of someone, Buffy has to be the perfect example. "The Gift" was an amazing way to do it.
Agreed. Also, "The Gift" ending is what I'd call bittersweet; what we got with ME3 is just depressing.

I had a dream, a dream in which Bioware had gone back and played the released version of the game and posted;
'Ahh, Crap. Sorry guys it seems that we messed up and shipped out the beta version that didn't include the full ending. Man, are we red faced - we thought you were all throwing a fit over nothing. Even that day one DLC stuff is now explained - it was on the beta version so the testers didn't have to mess around with downloads.
We should be able to fix this with a DLC in the next week, and will be shipping the correct version out to stores around the same time. We'll talk to the distributor's about arranging for free exchanges for those who can't download DLC for what-ever reason.'
*Sighs* Pity I then woke up....
ROFL YES!
I wish that was the case so badly...

Well now I've had a couple of days to cool down a bit. My friends tell me that it is easier to cope with dire situation if you line the positive things first.
I loved the fact that my shepard had to fall back from Earth, the place where he had grown up, gotten himself beaten up for the first time and from where he was saved. This was really emotional when you could feel the conflict inside him. Then there was the situation of Palaven, where I could see one of the few turians who he would trust his back to.
The genophage cure missions were beatiful. There were nothing what I'd miss, but the most fantastic thing was that doctor Mordin Solus got his Svan song in the end. From this point forward my goal in the game was to make Mordins sacriface mean something. It had to make the difference.
The death of Thane was like a shot to the kidney. But still the Bioware were able to pull it out in a way that it seemed perfect for him. Helping Shepard to save Salarian councillor was something what only Thane could have done in that condition. And hardest parts about this for both of the times when I saw it was the fact that I couldn't cry. In both times a friend was here while I played this game so I had to... I'm sorry I don't have a correct phrase there so moving along.
I were at awe when I played Rannock quests because there I learned so much about the geth and Legion. Story telling the fact that there was another way to fight geth than shoot their flashlights out and possibility to redeem them as a race. Shepards paragon speach to quarians when Legion uploaded the data was... epic. That was... I'm still at awe about it.
Multiplayer is awsome in this game. It doesn't concentrate on you slaughtering in the way almoust all other multiplayer fps games do. It's essence is teamwork to surpass enemy which only goal is to see every world burn.
All that is what I love in the game. Missions on Thessia and on the Cerberusbase were awsome too but if I had gone to details in them I might have started to defend the ending to myself again.
The ending of this game it is something what I can't just wrap my head around. It doesn't care if I tried to resolve all conflicts with most peaceful manner or the fact that I helped Rachni twice. It throws my decicions out of the window and sets the window on fire.
We finns don't come out from our shells without a reason, not even to the forums. But here is one finn who is holding the line for sake of better ending. This will be the defining moment to the gaming industrie and the best part of it is that WE are part of it. It doesn't count anymore if you are from Finland or from South Africa. We are holding this line!

I've been lurking for awhile and wanted to throw in my thoughts.
Over the years I've been involved in software releases that have gone south in a big way. I've been on the inside while people rage, deservedly so, against us. Most of us on the inside agreed with the customers but just couldn't admit it publicly. We'd have daily meetings on the status of the response, when we can say something, and how we can say it. To this day when I hear the word "blue" (our internal code word) I think of the phrase "development is aware of the issue". We said that a lot.
I've also worked for EA and have my name buried in the credits on some games. The folks I worked with really cared about the games, and took the quality of them very seriously, more seriously than a lot of places I've worked that were much larger companies. So I'm sure there are people at Bioware/EA right now that are just as sick as we are about all this. The folks I worked with at EA were gamers, and some of the most rabid ones I've ever known. Those folks are probably frothing at the mouth over this.
I can also say, that at no point did we ever think "we have their money, they can just shut up and go away". A one time sale is great, but repeat business keeps you alive. There is a lot of product out there, a lot of competition, losing any customers is a bad thing. It takes a lot of effort to win the disgruntled ones back, if you even can. Once it went bad, it turned into damage control, but damage control only to stop the bleeding while we had endless meetings on how to fix it. Endless meetings.
The big execs just wanted it fixed, the guys responsible for the software had to overcome their egos. No dev likes to be told they screwed up. Once the power play battles ended things would be sorted out and the customers made happy, or at least content.
These days I work as a producer in LA. So this article caught my eye, http://www.ibtimes.c...-review-dlc.htm
This is from the International Business Times discussing how the Mass Effect movie might quell the outrage. It also refrences the Forbes articles.
From my perspective, if I was the guy at Legendary who was developing the movie I would be concerned right now. Video game based movies are fickle sells. Look at Doom, who didn't love that game? It had a massive built in fanbase from the game who wanted a good movie. But the movie was bad, and it bombed.
Now jump to Mass Effect, does Legendary really want to drop $100-$200mill on a film where the fanbase is mad and you have to fight that while trying to make a good film? I can't imagine having to fight that battle, and dealing with the endless questions from people about how is the film going to make it up to the fans. Even providing for the built in delays, it will be years before it would be released (my bet is it would be tied to ME4 or another ME release). How many people will be at Comic-Con 2016 and ask "does the movie end as badly as ME3?", even if they fix ME3 today, they are still going to get that question. They are still going to get people dressed up as Maruader Shields, or people dressed in red/green/blue as "the ending".
I guess I'm just saying that this ending debacle has some definite unintended consequences. From the film production side of the universe, if I was Legendary, I'd be supportive of EA, not say a damn thing to anyone about it, but also be quietly asking EA to address it before it becomes more of a problem for me.
Hold the Line.
