Yeah I hear you guys. I agree its BS that we were flat out lied to. I just think this is really going to hurt and build the other side. BW would love nothing more than to see gamers fighting gamers over this, as it gives them cover to ignore us. They'll point out they're listening and always care about our feedback yadda yadda, but that they can't please everyone and they stand by their product. The only way for us to have success is if there's a perception that the majority of players are with us and taking action through legal channels drives a wedge between us and those who are maybe on the fence. His actions are his alone but just like with politics, they will be twisted and used against us.

Edit:And bah, this forum moves fast. I'm suddenly responding to people pages back. :P

The me3 ending reminded me about another thing: the ending of "monty python and the holy grail", where during the charge the police came and arrested everyone. And even that had some integration in the story.

Perhaps... But that is no reason to give up ;)

Oh yes, that was indeed very funny...and yet disappointing.

Perhaps a better metaphor would be the ending of the "Crimson Permanent Assurance" skit at the beginning of Monty Python's The Meaning of Life.

Haha so true

Another thing in Monty Python's favor is if they pull something like that people react with "Oh you silly brits, I should have seen this comming"

Bioware unfortunatly, do not have that advantage.

Nope. You owe your LI a hell of an apology ... it was awkward for everyone. But everyone agrees you looked dashing in the dress ....

I don't think Liara minded since she went both ways as it were...maybe confused her a bit though

It would explain the knees though....remembering Kasumi's mission in ME2...*shudder*...why couldn't I have a full length dress?

Been away awhile writing and sending my letter. What do y'all think?

Hello Bioware,

My name is Stephen Schnare, and I am an avid fan of the Mass Effect series, and at least interested in the Dragon Age series (fantasy settings are not normally my thing, but your creativity with this game makes it intriguing). Let me give you my story, from start to finish (I promise it won’t be –that- long...but it will be long).

For the first time that I’ve seen, a game company has truly attempted something epic; an interlocked trilogy where decisions in each previous game influence events in the following games. They combined this with excellent writing, where the player had to truly pay attention to the decisions they made (whereas in other series, it was just a matter of having a high enough skill to get the positive result you wanted) in dialogue and in action. Where the soundtrack was beyond Hollywood quality, and the voice acting is more professionally done than even a good chunk of animated series, and often superior to movie dialogue.

My first experience with the Mass Effect series was the second game. I had heard of it, heard good things about it, and decided to pick it up day when I saw an unused copy for the PC at Gamestop for $19.99. When I was done playing ME2, I virtually immediately (as in 5 minutes later) purchase the first game. Never before had something outside a book series captivated me to the point where I was willing to go purchase part of it just by name and developer alone.

The game experience in the first one was terrific, and the ability to carry over my character and my choices to the second game made ME2 all the more sweeter. Once I had finished ME2 a second time, I eagerly checked the internet for news about ME3...and was disappointed to learn how far off in the future it was. Still, I said to myself, I would much rather see the time taken to develop a game to its highest potential rather than the rushed, lax jobs that are done by most game companies these days.

So I waited. And I spread the word of the excellence that was Mass Effect. I even bought a second copy of the game for PS3 so, while I was away working out of town, I at least could play it and show it to my roomates and coworkers when they dropped over.

As time marched on, the first trailers for ME3 started emerging...the cinematic ones striking a chord within me, the gameplay ones causing me to salivate in anticipation...the interviews with the voice talent further increasing my excitement as the release date drew nearer and nearer.

Finally, the demo seemed to cement what I already knew; that Mass Effect 3 was going to be the epic ending to the series that it deserved...or at least to Shepard.

Rewinding a little, as soon as the pre-release became available I pre-ordered it...the collectors edition...something I have only ever done once before (and swore off doing it ever again because I was disappointed in the title). I was so worried, when I couldn’t find any record of my pre-order months later, that I pre-ordered it a second time just to make sure I had it.

Finally, the Monday before the release date, the game came...excitedly, I sat at my computer and installed it, rejoicing that I would get to play a day –early-. Then I discovered that you had it locked down via some sort of program to only activate on the real release date...I was disappointed, but I realized the reasoning behind it and didn’t begrudge you.

The next day, I got up early...and I play. And played. And played. I only stopped long enough to eat. I played for 12 hours straight, from 8am until 8pm when my eyes, having grown unused to long hours of gaming, grew sore. So I stopped.

The next day, my eyes were so sore that I couldn’t play. Even then, I snuck on sometime in the evening to play a few rounds of the incredibly fun multiplayer, but had to give it up when my eyes grew sore again. I went into town to a store a frequent and praised ME3 to the hilt; I had been so fundamentally impressed that I couldn’t help it. Here was a company that understood; Bioware was THE gaming company to buy from.

The next day, Thursday, I resumed playing...mostly single player, but I delved harder into the multiplayer to bring up my readiness...I wanted to see the best ending, I wanted to be assured of it...so that lead to a 12 hour day of nonstop gaming. I laughed at the jokes, Eve was an amusing character...I cried when Mordin died...I smiled sadly, but proudly as Thane was given an ending worthy of his character. I enjoyed the firefights, I felt rage against Kai Leng and the Illusive Man for what they were doing...I felt afraid for Miranda’s safety, I was proud of how far Jack had come...and I knew which direction things were going between EDI and Joker, and was both amused and touched by what it represented. Then, I slept once more.

Friday...I woke up, bound and determined to finish the game. I had missed, so far, the part of the game aside from the end that I had looked forward to the most; my Shepard reuniting with Tali’Zorah. Bioware...that whole set of missions, the story and the dialogue, virtually made the game for me. I had tried so desperately hard in the previous game to make sure Tali did not end up exiled...and to ensure she and Legion made friends. It was my honour to not only bring down the Reaper influencing the Geth, and to be honoured to hear it deem my Shepard worthy of recognition and conversation...but it was also a defining moment to bring the Geth and the Quarians back together after years of war, and to get Tali her homeworld back.

Legion’s death was a brilliantly touching sacrifice...he gave his people true sentience, after achieving it for himself.

And then, I was rewarded with finally seeing Tali’s face (admittedly, I was prepared for disappointment in this regard when you –still- had her facing away from the camera when she removed her mask...I was so pleased to find her picture in Shepard’s quarters). A beautiful character, inside and out...I didn’t even care that it was a photoshopped stock image; Tali is a fictional character, and if this was how the creative team viewed her appearance, I was not going to complain.

Things progressed faster from there as I kept playing, enjoying each sequence more and more...the dark, twisted experiments of Cerberus, the fall of Thessia further cementing my hatred of Kai Leng...all throughout this I was forging alliances, making peace, gathering assets for the final battle...and then...and then the speech from Admiral Hackett, the massive fleet moving in to engage the Reapers...the intense ship-to-ship battle.

Landing in London...seeing the devastation....making my way to the FOB under heavy fire and, once there, seeing remnants of the people that were once there...seeing the datapad in what looked to be a former fire station, how the emergency service crews sacrificed themselves to draw Reaper fire while the civilians escaped...it really hit home, really touched something in me. That Bioware acknowledged the bravery of these non-military services. So few games really do that sort of thing.

The goodbyes from the crew, the atmosphere...it really hit home. This was Earth. This was what we were fighting to retake...and fighting to avenge ourselves on the Reapers for.

And then the final push; my excitement growing with each step forward, each breathtaking sequence as I truly felt that everything was at stake. Reports over the radio as some of my allies fell, and in their deaths buying time for Hammer to carry on. The beam, the final desperate scramble...and then the Reaper strike, knocking Shepard unconscious.

Waking up to struggle towards the beam, pushing my way through what resistance the few Reaper forces were able to put up. Meeting the Illusive Man and Anderson on the Citadel...the struggle to reason with the evil racial purist, and the touching dialogue with Shepard’s...rolemodel, for lack of better term. It was all there...I fully anticipated, after the crucible was activated just before this dialogue, that that was where Shepard was going to die. I had prepared myself for it, deemed it a worthy end...expected to see how my alliance forging, asset recovering, and 3 games worth of decisions would influence events during and after the ending.

Bioware, at this point, you could have sold me $10 dollar DLC of a screensaver of Shepard dancing. And then...

You pulled the rug right out from under my feet.

Suddenly, there was this philosophical drivel and 3 choices, colour coded choices, that rendered moot EVERY BIT of effort until that point. I thought ‘Ok, I must have missed something and this is actually the worst ending, this whole conversation...Bioware did say that the perfect ending would be hard to achieve and require a lot of work.’

So I went online. And discovered that the ending sequences were all virtually identical; cookie-cuttered out with different colour icing.

Bioware...I’ve never, ever felt hollow even after playing the worst of games. I’ve never felt so let down by a game...a series of games...an –incredible- series of games the likes of which have not been seen before...as this.

I actually sat still for about a half hour in shock, trying to make sense of it. There’s no way that Bioware would do something like this...to feed me, and all its devout customers...an ending which in no way even comes close to reaching the creative potential that it demonstrated by even creating the Mass Effect series.

Then came the anger....the remembered promises from interviews. The anger, the betrayal, and the disappointment...I truly thought that you, Bioware, had succumbed to the same problem that virtually every game company has succumbed to time and time again...corporate greed. Selling out its fans for the almighty dollar.

Bioware, you should be proud; no game company can claim to have such passionate, loyal customers. We want you to see what you’ve done wrong...we –know- that if you saw just how badly this was taken, that you would come to your senses and fix it...and become one of two gaming companies that I know of that actually –listens- to us, the gamers, your customers. You should be proud that you were able to invoke such feelings in what I soon to found out to be were so many. You should be proud that, as a community, your fans and customers have been so civil, so mature, and so generous by and large...as always, there are a few exceptions, but they are the minority.

Bioware, if integrity truly matters...if you want to set a precedent of not only customer service, generating customer loyalty, and of being absolutely willing to stand by your products and fix them when the majority (and anyone who does polls can tell you that it is the majority) of your paying customers worldwide say something is broken...then you, Bioware, are the best corporate entity to exist since the old days.

Please Bioware, fix the endings...make us unflinchingly loyal to you again.

Please.

Sincerely,

Stephen William Schnare.

I'll post this again for anyone who hasn't read it. We all NEED to keep this in mind. Keep ourselves organized and keep our morale up. Keep writing those letters using the 3 C's (calm, constructive, and courteous). We will not go away. Think like consumers and keep foot on the peddle. Hold the line, help the children, retake Mass Effect!

Interesting thing. Now in MW3 while holding the line:

"You are from the Retake ME guys?"
"Yes?..."
"Hold the line! I support you! Great thing you do, especially the Child thing."

Word is spreading trough the galaxy...
