One of my problems with the ending, especially the one I got with Stargazer the first time I played it, was that what it left open to interpretation did not sit well with me. He is called "The Shepard" which only leads me to think the following.

Following his death, Commander Shepard passed into the annals of history. Unfortunately, since he had effectively returned the galactic community to the stone age, the annals were handed down by word of mouth. History became Legend, Legend became Myth, until eventually "The Shepard" passed into the realms of Godhood.

After centuries of worshiping the creator of the galaxy and all life on it, followers of The Shepard broke off into different cults, culminating in long, bloody and atrocious battles, war and crusades over whether he was Paragade or Renegon, and whether he truly loved Liara or Tali [insert appropriate LI where necessary].

Eventually these wars resulted in the destruction or devastation of most inhabited planets, and the only beings left alive in the Milky Way were a Kleptomaniac species of Space Cow.




That's what happens when you leave endings open to interpretation.

Am I the only one who has no desire to play videogames because of this? I can't find any enjoyment in any game I have because of how depressing all this is. Freaking Mass Effect depression, man!

Nope, I'm right there with you on this.  I've tried to play several of my favorites and a couple I hadn't finished yet.  Just can't do it /sigh.

BioWare will be having a panel at PAX East on 8 April. There's even a PAX East Platoon that has organized and will show up to protest the ending at the event. I don't have a link handy, but I'm sure someone else here has one.

We are getting some victories my friends. But the war isn't over! We to focus and Hold the Line! Total victory will only be achivied when we all play ther better ending. Until them, WE WILL HOLD THE LINE!
