Screw it - If I want to spend $90 and be left unsatisfied I'll take my girlfriend to a nice restaurant and have her tell me she's "too tired" afterwards...

Dude, that's the itis. Get her some jewelry next time.

Seriously, jewelry is far better than dinner when push comes to shove. At least in my experience.

I bought her a gold bracelet recently... Most expensive gift a girlfriend of mine has ever received.

I wasn't aware that sex required trade goods to be initated. I thought you just had to be good at sex so she would actually want to have sex with you.

I know it is crazy, but I actually enjoy sex with my SO.

Getting her in bed and enjoying it are two seperate things, as Mass Effect has taught us. Sure, we don't enjoy the fact that Bioware made us waste all that time saying just the right thing and making all the right choices just to sack that blue lesbian then only to send her on a one-way trip to Breedersville, Population: YOU.

Oh. There should be a "but" there, but I don't have one.

WarBaby2 wrote...

All depends on the length of the relationship... the first couple a years dinner will do... later... well. ;-)

Ha! I'll tell her that next time she wants something - It's been 6 months or so.

Lol, I cannot believe this is getting discussed. We better stop before this entire thread gets closed because of this.

Meh... We can sit here and moan and groan about how lame this is or we can have fun. I choose fun with a side-order of "I just received my cancellation confirmation".

Hey, congratz! Join the club!

I bet Bioware/EA never do another space edition launch again. For what little they made from it as an advertising gimmick, they probably lost double in pre-order cancellations.

Not really,
Space edition was harmless really - it didn't bring much spoilers.
What started the ****storm was the beta leak in november and the script that was datamined outta' it.
And of course the PC version being leaked by, surprise! Russians, just today - it got datamined for movie files.

In the big picture the Space Ver. was harmless

LOL.  I've already seen some loyal Bioware fans come to the company's defense on this by saying something like, "they only said your decisions matter, not that your decisions were important to the outcome" or something like that.  Anyone think that's a strong argument?  If the best defense against "you misled us with how our decisions mattered" is a variation of Bill Clinton's "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is', is" then I say the people disappointed have merit.

Exactly.

Everyone else in the galaxy is totally devestated and/or hosed, but, hey, we're all ok. Whooooooooooo. High fives everybody, Doc Chakwas, break out the Serrice Ice Brandy. Me and Ash are gonna head up and do soma lovin'"

Ridiculous.

In the end, Steinbeck is no more realistic than Disney.  "Miserably ever after" is no more a consistent reflection of reality than "happily ever after."  They could easily have accomplished the Normandy crew getting scathed by having some squadmates die but not all, having the whole Normandy stuck on the Citadel, or any number of things.

You've spent so much time focusing on the individual trees that you've missed the forest, yes. The player knew almost from the start what Shep was doing this for and the price they were willing to pay to get it done.

Then Bioware should have spent way less time making me care about squadmates and way more time making me care about the aforementioned nameless masses.  Then the sacrifice has actual meaning.  As is, it's just a sacrifice for a fuzzy abstraction of "the people" of the galaxy.

Mordin says it best:  "Can't anthropomorphize galaxy, but can think of favorite nephew.  Doing this for him."

Heck, Liara can even ask Shepard point blank in LotSB if the reason he/she is doing this is motivated by helping their LI and Shepard can say "yes."

The fact is though, to some extent or other, just by virtue of them being there, you would have cared about them more.

Anxiety over the endings, therefore, is pretty much unavoidable, but the level in this thread? It really suggests to me that a good number people weren't paying attention.

Why would they torture their fans like this, knowing that the vast majority wanted the option of a happy but flawed ending, a neutral ending and a dark ending with some variations inbetween?

They keep saying it's satisfying but I can't see how watching the normandy get cheaply taken away from you is satisfying. Effectively you are ultimately morally forced into the merge ending if all this is true because that's the only hope... you are going to lose all your friends and the universe is trainwrecked either way - may as well sacrifice yourself and give people the best chance of survival by ascending them.

It just doesn't make sense. They had the perfect opportunity to be still be bittersweet and still allow people to be happy about their connections with the characters. To let Shepard retire peacefully with his friends. The connection was always with the characters - the connection with the universe, they could have smashed all the relays and trapped all the characters on earth and I honestly think most people would have accepted that.

This about the Mass Relays exploding is really confusing me right now. In Arrival when the Alpha Relay explodes, it takes out the entire star system with it... is that no longer the case? Do the Relays explode in every ending or just the "bad" ones?

Hard to tell.  Watching one of the bad endings they seem to blow up but not with the force of the one Arrival.  In other endings I believe they just short out for lack of a better term.

So Joker leaves you for dead and decides to bail with your entire crew and gets caught in an explosion?

Because they just don't give a damn anymore. That's the extent of it. It was far easier to do this than have *gasp* actually different endings.

Is there a video on the control and synergy endings? The relay blows up in the Destroy ending clearly, how about the other endings?

This still doesn't change anything!  I refuse to believe any "rumors" on how it will all end!  You can take those leaked informations with a grain of salt.  Because there is no way in hell that a company like Bioware would deliberately shoot down their own franchise like this.  What would drive someone to do such actions like this!?  It just boggles my mind.

You're right. It doesn't make any sense. As much as I've accepted these endings, I still can't think of a good reason for why they would do it this way. I legitametly can't wait for launch just so the devs will finally talk about and explain this. I'm sure it will be a mixture of double-speak and DA2-team style excuses of "You just don't get our brilliance," but I really do want to hear what they have to say for themselves after this.

Because a major selling point of ME was depression. Good call.

No, it was about an age of optimism with humanity rising through the ranks, only to face an enemy which they must collaborate with aliens to beat. Now it's about death. That's not consistant.

Oh, because we all know that the outcomes aren't actually the results of the decisions.

You argue with this wonderful logic ? :D

1) One copy ended up on a cliff.
2) One copy ended up in a tree in an anrgy neighbor's yard.
3) One balloon ended up in a 150ft tree.
4) Someone shat on one of the copies.
5) Not sure if confirmed, but someone stole the Berlin balloon ones.

...Yeah, I'd say that wasn't the brightest idea. At least it didn't end up in the ocean.

6) One copy was shat on...literally.
7) One copy was sold on ebay for money purposes (May have been the same copy shat on)
8) Two copies tried to get auctioned off for charity.

Seriously - did anyone who wanted a copy of ME3 actually end up with it?

The "theme" of the series?  Philosphically the series is all over the place.  The only common theme is choices and character relationships.

To answer your other question above I have only seen the super bad ending so I don't know if the relays physically explode in every instance.  I think with blue and green they just stop working from what Tank had said.

Yep, they probably want to move onto some MMORPG garbage so they don't have to deal with the difficulties of story writing.
