Apparently the synthesis (green) option is the hardest to unlock. My mom got me the collector's edition game guide as a surprise when the game came out and it says in there that you have to build your war assets up to a certain level before that ending is unlocked. So I guess that would make the red ending the basic one, the blue ending the medium one, and the green ending the one you work really hard to get!
I got green on my first run through, I honestly thought I had stumbled into the worst ending. A reload, some internet research and an overwelming sense of dread later...
I was wondering as I am told that the hidden breath ending is only available if you collect all the assets you can and paragon suicide TIM and choose destroy... If breath is the truth then why would destroy be the standard "bad ending"? I seem to be tying myself up in knots trying to explain the endings to myself.

The only problem is that they are wrong as we know it. Bethesda has done this kind of thing before when they decided to change the ending of Fallout 3.
In fairness, Bethesda didn't necesarily change the ending, they added to it. While many people here want the actual endings themselves to be changed.

Hey how is the line holding up? any news?
Our protest has made the CNN Tech people, so that's a good thing. They know that at least 89% of us don't like the ending and they commented on this being an historical moment.

Still the fate of the other crew memebers must be integrated more. Also the fate of the cameo characters. Too many plotholes there still as much as I try to excuse them. The pacing for that kind of ending just doesnt feel right. It had to slow down and become more philosophocal earlier for that approach the authors and developers took.

Reading it now haha
To be honest, that transcript makes me angry; their statements and reactions to revelations as to the average gamer age in particular. It just shows that people still view video games as childish, juvenile, and immature, thus applying those same stigmas on the gamers themselves.
Not to mention, they got a few facts wrong(namely, the "first time in history a developer has changed the ending to a game.")
This is true, but since the mainstream media has always seemed to adopt this kind of view it's not like we could realistically expect them to of suddently stopped when refering to us. That's an issue that'll need to be rectified over a long period of time, and is quite outside our scope at this point.

Thanks! That was really interesting....minus Fredricka's pointless and uninformed comments. *sighs* People obviously still have stereotypes regarding video games....and obviously ME3 wouldn't be the first game to "change" or "fix" the ending.
BUT at least they reported on it and it wasn't biased at all! Neither of them attacked the fans...yay!
Still can't believe CNN reported on it. Very awesome.

I have Blade Runner on director's cut DVD.
While the endings do have paralells, this style of narrative works for the film because the theme of natural vs. created life was basically the premise from the first. Whereas Mass Effect has always been about overcoming insurmountable odds.

And... wow. Actually reading a transcript of the CNN news room reads like a very bad parody of a news room conversation. Like, the kind of bad parody you'd expect from someone trying to write dystopian fan-fics.

One of my problems with the ending, especially the one I got with Stargazer the first time I played it, was that what it left open to interpretation did not sit well with me. He is called "The Shepard" which only leads me to think the following.
Following his death, Commander Shepard passed into the annals of history. Unfortunately, since he had effectively returned the galactic community to the stone age, the annals were handed down by word of mouth. History became Legend, Legend became Myth, until eventually "The Shepard" passed into the realms of Godhood.
After centuries of worshiping the creator of the galaxy and all life on it, followers of The Shepard broke off into different cults, culminating in long, bloody and atrocious battles, war and crusades over whether he was Paragade or Renegon, and whether he truly loved Liara or Tali [insert appropriate LI where necessary].
Eventually these wars resulted in the destruction or devastation of most inhabited planets, and the only beings left alive in the Milky Way were a Kleptomaniac species of Space Cow.
That's what happens when you leave endings open to interpretation.
So true; and made me laugh; its either that or the damn Invisible ninja monkeys.......god I hate thoses

He was actually referring to the point about CNN saying Bioware changing the endings would be a first. and someone responding that Bethesda did it first with FAllout 3.
