One of the things they missed out on that would've taken a precious second or two are the international implications. These aren't just American gamers. The entire world is up in arms about this.
True, but it is hardly unusual for TV news to only focus on their country and what it means to them. I seem to recall being told that Australian news several years ago liked to tell everyone which positions the Australian team managed during the Commonwealth Games, while omitting to mention who won. I've heard similar stories about US news as well.
In any event getting mentioned on CNN is a MAJOR victory of sorts, since it is almost certain that the story is going to get futher coverage in the mainstream media - or at least more interest from places that have either been ignoring the whole thing, or just haven't picked up on it yet. This will, in turn, place even more pressure on BW. It's easier to stall and remain quiet when no one is looking at you.
This does come with a price however, as the media is very much a double-edged sword. We MUST remain clear headed, civil and not get distracted by shineys nor allow ourselves to get bated into starting arguments. We, and this board, may well come under close scrutany from news agencies world wide. And while that may seem an overstatement it is probably best if we assume that from this moment forward.
If you'll excuse me I'm going to put my head under a pillow and whimper for a few moments at that thought....
