Even if he didn't know Shepard was dead, he should shouldn't be smiling; they just left their Commander behind. This was so messed up. I don't understand how Bioware thought this was a good idea.
Yeah I agree completely, I am like many trying to make sense of the senseless. I don't get how Bioware thought this was a good idea either, and I truly believe they did think it was a good idea.
Yeah, and the whole idea of leaving it up to the player to figure out what happened next? Umm... no. This is the end of Shepard's story. Just because she is dead (or almost dead) doesn't mean that I don't care about what happens to my friends/crew? Who thought that shipping them off to some unknown planet was the best idea for an ending? I mean seriously, I just spent 30 hours putting the galaxy together to screw it over in the end. At least let my friends be happy... or with me.

Mass Effect has to be one of my favorite game series of all time, I spent hundreds of hours on all the games, and loved almost every part of it. To have a hundred hours of gameplay, decisions and story end with a terrible copy/paste ABC ending, that barely even makes sense is just disgraceful. It does not come close to being worthy of what the Mass Effect series is.
I'm just another fan, alongside thousands of other fans, and I will hold the line.
You're more than a fan, you're a consumer who was promised a certain product that you didn't receive.
But welcome to the line my friend

Agreed. I think the only thing that might be keeping my spirits up is that the Diablo 3 release date was announced. If I had to sit here with nothing to look forward to I think I would go insane (more so then I already am that is).

I believe we ought to limit our 'suggestions for change' to critiques of the utter lack of sense at the end. We should not be trying to come up with positive suggestions as to specific alternate endings. I don't think that they'll stop for a moment to look at fan requests for a specific ending: as plausible and well thought out our endings may sound to us, to them, they're all violations of the intricate balance of how the 'franchise' is to be marketed----we simply don't know how many novels, comics, spin-offs, etc. they have in store, all, in some way or another, connected with their 'vision' of the 'ending'.
Neither do I think, that they will pay much attention to purely subjective complaints----they made no promises as to how we would 'feel' about the end. They will not stop for a moment to consider what they might have done wrong, to frustrate the expectations of any particular group of fans, let alone individuals.
So. Our 'suggestions' have to be strictly impersonal, and they should pertain to the failings of the ending as a whole. They have to be 'negative', as opposed to specific 'positive' additions or changes.
I've said these before, but I'll say them again.
- We do not want the story of ME3 to come to an abrupt stop, at a Diabolus Ex Machina (the Starchild). We want events in the endgame to follow logically from previous events. We do not want to see the rules of the game changed in its final moments. To change the rules of a game is to change the game. We do not want to see an arbitrary----and radical----change in the Reapers' motivations, from what we know from ME1 and 2. We want to see our war assets actively contributing to the effort, having an impact in the course of events. We want the fate of our ship and crew to fit cogently in that course of events.
- We are not asking for further 'explanation' as to the appearance of the Starchild, the Mass Relays getting destroyed, and the Normandy getting stranded. The problem is not that we are failing to understand any of these. We are not asking BioWare to justify the ending as it stands. We do not think that this is possible. The protagonist of the endgame is utterly out of character, and he is in a state of complete disregard as to all that he has done since Eden Prime: We cannot recognize that person to be Shepard; he or she has to be an impostor. We ask that the final role of the Catalyst and the Crucible be rethought. Perhaps scrapped altogether.
- These are very general outlines, that make no 'positive' prescriptions; they rather lay out the necessary constraints under which BW ought to rewrite the end. We are not petitioning for any specific ending. We are petitioning only for an 'ending framework' that is logically sound.
BioWare's job should be to make that framework rock-solid, and give us the chance to 'write our bit of the end' in terms of it. That's ALL we are asking.

God I depressed myself looking back on ME1 and think how optimistic I was for the series and then to finally be at this point. Its sad Bioware let ME come to this.
Should've seen my face when I got ME3 on March 6th (before I knew about the ending). My mom took a hidden picture of me getting it at GameStop and I looked so excited...
I swear that my brother took one as well when I got the game and the guide book, and I know my roommate most definately took one after I saw the eniding....
lol I took the day off from work and school for the release. Now all I can think is I should submit my psychology essay guidelines to Bioware so they can begin making it up to me :-P. Maybe learn a few things about human interaction too.

The more I think about a potential new ending the more I want it to be like Serenity. Yes some of your crew die, but in the end you prevail and limp away to fight another day.

Many people have been asking what the next step is going to be. There are several things planned long term, but in the short term the following is going to be done:
1. An official web site is going to be created by volunteers from the movement in order to provide a place to organize, coordinate, and communicate more efficiently.
2. We are going to continue to spread the word with a focus on media attention. I've been in contact with a few media personalities that are interested in spreading the word about the Retake movement.
3. We are going to continue recruiting our fellow Mass Effect fans that are yet to finish the game, and suffer through the ending.
4. We are going to give Bioware a little more time to respond to us directly. ME3 has been out for less than two weeks, we need to give them time to realize we aren't going away.
5. We are working on ideas to support the movement at PAX East. More details will be coming soon.
6. We hope to organize Retake supporters various ideas for shirts, bracelets, posters, fliers, and other items into a single online store to support the movement.
7. More is in the works, and further details will be provided soon!
8. We are going to HOLD THE LINE!

I think it's a good ending if it was some sort of mental test after the beam hits, and progresses from there. Fallout 3 comes to mind.
I just really wanted a conclusion like in ME1 and ME2, not all of these questions that are confusing.

How on earth does mass effect progress after the endings to ME3? That's my problem, with the relays destroyed in all endings, Ashley ending up on the Normandy when it crashes (even though she was on earth with me), no need for breathing equipment on the "citadel".

Technically they COULD make a spin off featuring the rebuilding of the galaxy. Most likely though you'll see a spin off of the First Contact war. Hell they could take the Halo Wars approach and make an RTS. There are many ways they can go, just none of them is what anyone wants.

If they make Mass Effect an RTS I'm suing! Or something! That would be wrong... Still a better ending though...
