My theory on this whole thing is that they blew their budget on marketing. Most of the trailers are 10x better then the ending.

This is what im thinking not to mention im currently in Melbourne Australia and i was watching Posters of ME3 on the bus stops.

I see Mass Effect trailers and posters everywhere I go these days. And every time I get a pang.

The Take Back Earth Cinematic was sexy. I was actually hoping for the ending to be something like that, except with a space battle included. The field-to-field battle with Reaper and ship debris raining down; maybe seeing that weapon that blew the hole through the deralict Reaper in ME2 being rebuilt for use.

Massive payback, one bug-shaped abomination at a time.

That i would be fine with, i don't need an over the top Boss Battle

That is actually what I thought the Crucible was. That Mass Accelerator from ME2. It made sense to me. A previous race tried to build the Crucible but without the citadale it only had enough power for 1 shot.

We hold grievances with the current ending and EA/BioWare because:

  • The game's ending fails to meet what we were promised as consumers.
  • The game's ending fails to meet our expectations as fans.
  • The response from BioWare needs to change.
  • We have jobs, families, responsibilities. We dedicate our time to this cause because we genuinely care about Mass Effect and its story.
  • We want to see a product that we, as human beings, as consumers, as fans, and as players can be proud of.
Retake Mass Effect 3 - Hold the line.

I said it last night (pre all-night horror movie marathon at the cinema... 70's horror movies were screwed up btw) and I don't know if it was replied to or what, because I didn't have a reception at the cinema...

But while I think these points are good, I think we need to be clearer about what we actually want to see in an ending. For example, we should indicate that what we want most of all is a conclusion for our characters. I recommend adding another bullet point or two with specifics that we all agree on, that's my 2 cents.

As it stands, they're very clear and succint, but vague - which leaves them open to interpretation, leaving the brass with an excuse to argue that we don't know what we specifically want.

If you can come up with something more specific without putting words in too many people's mouths, I'll be more than happy to change it :)

Actually I just thought, perhaps another bullet that says:

We wish to see a conclusion to the game that does the rest of the series justice - in terms of concluding the story and providing the players with both choices and consequences to prior choices.

Yep, that was my expectation as the Ace in the Hole for ME3... maybe a drunk construction worker would have "This is my BOOMSTICK" printed on the side as it was flown in. Space zombies, ya know?

Or turians... there's going to be a lot of orphans on Palaven that need homes after the Reapers savagely bombed the cities.

No help or food will reach those ruined cities after this tho - no more relay. The Turians in the armada will starve with the Quarian flotilla, now trapped in the Sol system without dextro-food they can eat. Thesia will remain in ruins. Agreed, that bullet point functions well in it's specificity. I would add info about the characters though, so it would read something as follows:
"We wish to see a conclusion to the game that does the rest of the series justice - in terms of concluding the story and the story of our crew members, and providing the players with both choices and consequences to prior choices."

Perfect IMO.

There wont be an ME4 I mean really what the hell is the plot gonna be about??? We've had three games of fighting reapers, they're no longer a threat, with these endings anyway.

Oh I really wouldn't mind ME4 being about something else than fighting Reapers for once.

The Mass Effect universe offers enough to tell a good story...or at least it used to.

The Reason why they shot themselves in the foot with ME4, is, that the Universe that we've grown to love is gone.
No more Mass Relays means no more galactic community. Just small clusters of isolated worlds, fighting for survival.
It won't feel like Mass Effect anymore.

But I somehow fear that the reason behind the shockingly similiar endings was, that they are indeed planning to do ME4 and for the story they have in mind for that, they need the Mass Relays destroyed and they need the Normandy to crash etc.

I highly doubt they would abandon Shepard in a direct sequel. Possibly it could be about finding a way to survive. Probably dive deeper into reapers, where they came from and how to master the Mass Relays.

Well wasn't it said that this would be the end of Shepards story?

I was honestly fine with that. Would be cool playing a Turian for once, or a Terminus Pirate or god knows what else. Shepard could be mentioned a few times, there would be a chance to explore the outcome of ME3 a bit more...but the way he galaxy is screwed right now?
There's no point to it

Adds another point to the "Blew budget on marketing" theory.

Marketing Guy: "You know what would be a good way to get people to buy Mass Effect 3, send copies of it to space"

Manager: "But we don't have the budget for that. The only way we could accomplish that is to take some money from the development"

Marketing Guy: "We just need to get them to buy it. Not like they can return it."

lol something like that would need a kick a** one liner. My other thought was some kind of Reaper EM Pulse. My perfect ending would be this.

Keep this ending but use the Indoctrination dream theory (minus the weird Normandy fleeing thing). It cuts to you laying in the rubble but then the real Anderson Runs up to you followed by your team and helps you to your feet. You run to the lift and take it to the citadale. After some fighting you make it to the master control from ME1 (to make everything come full circle). There you set off the crucibkle. However the weapon is so powerful that after the battle the citedale is crippled and drained. No longer able to move or sustain life it sits in orbit as a monument that for all the Reapers power and technology, in the end it wasn't able to stop the unity of the galactic races.
