It's been a week now since I finished the game and I still don't get how we got the ending we did. The rest of the game's climax was rather awesome, in my opinion. Charging towards the beam in a last desperate sprint was thrilling. I'm even a fan of Shepard getting hit by Harbinger and having to limp on. It was a truly heroic thing to do. Then we get the final conversation with Anderson, which even in its shorter form, is heart wrenching and a great ending for the character. Then, as the credits roll, we get a beautiful piece of music by Faunts which is a fitting tribute to the end of Mass Effect 1. Whereas M4 Part 2 was energetic and psyched one up for Shepard's continuing struggle against the Reapers, Das Malefitz is eerie and contemplative - perfect for sending a great, yet tired hero into retirement or mourning his final sacrifice. However, all of this is greatly diminished by our 10 minutes with the star child, his pointless choice of colours, and seeing our friends turn tail and run for no apparent reason. So frustrated...

I agree with you 100% :crying:

That is what i love most about movies, Literature or games when the Hero/characters go through Physical/emotional pain to accomplish their goal, it makes the end that much more satisfying to me.

Look at the Original Star Wars Trilogy, Serenity, Blade Runner, Indiana Jones Trilogy(!!!!), Uncharted and many many more

Once I knew they were taking our squadmates away again, for no reason this time. I knew I wouldn't like it as much as ME1/2.

That was the main complaint I had going in to the game as well. But you couldn't have known what you were going to get would turn out to be so much worse.

Brent Knowles (God bless him for his brilliance) said it best: if you're going to do a trilogy, make the second part bleak then make sure you end the trilogy on a high note. Shepard walking in ME2 and his crewmates nodding at him (and it was like only 10 seconds!) was more satisfying than this space magic crap we have for ME3.

Couldn't agree more. Never felt more satisfied at the ending of Mass Effect 2.

Of course you built a reaper killing team, that was done away with in ME3.

It's an amazing feat they pulled off, really. To actually manage to sabotage an entire franchise, not only this trilogy. And possibly even the entire company itself, becasue of the lack of trust that is building up. I trusted BioWare so much that I played a shooter (ME), something I'd otherwise never poke with a 10' crowbar. I guess, we can sey they are so great, that when they mess up they really do it with a bang!

I remember when I heard the news about how there was going to be a drastically smaller squad, Bioware released a statement which said that the reason they were cutting down the team, was so that they could dedicate time to creating more intimate and dynamic interactions with the squad who are actually there. Right before I decided to attack the Cerberus HQ, I remembered this statement and thought to my self "Wtf, they just lied to me"...

And then I played through the ending, and I forgot all about it, lol.

I know right?

It's actually pretty brilliant. The ending is so mind boggingly bad that it not just overshadows most of the good things, but let's all the smaller missteps pale in comparison.
We are willing to accept them all, if only they fix the one, huge abomination that is the ending.

That's actually a common PR-trick. Although I do hope it's unintentional

For me, not really. I could have lived with all those small "lies", holes, changes, because the game was so enjoyable in itself. But because of the ending, I keep seeing all of those things that irked me.

It's funny after the ending it's made me go back and look at all the smaller holes, plot changes and other little mistakes. :/

In the sense of accomplishment compared to Mass Effect 3, Mass Effect 2 was way better. But you always knew that the Reapers would be coming and as the second part in a trilogy it served its purpose. Set the stage for an epic climax(where was it?) but not without having accomplished at least something.

Compare it to The Empire strikes back. You see how Luke gets his new hand (Shepard nodding to her crew) then you see how the Millenium Falcon goes off the get Han back and finish the empire(Reaper fleet coming from the dark space).

A little offtopic, but another plot inconsistency just dawned on me. If the story is being told by the man to the child, it means he also depicted all the sexual scenes in similar detail as in the game. What does that make him? : ) Or it must be a society truly free of any of the regular morale.

So true, I think to myself: "I really like this game" Then I think about the ending, and that leads me to think about all the cut corners, and characters that aren't themselves anymore. And how none of what I'm doing matters in the end.
