So we can't get the ending we want after all?

Comparisons to the Witcher 2 actually have me giggling a bit. I got the game and while I'd certainly like to play it, it runs a bit too slowly on my computer for me to actually be able to do so.

Still better than Mass Effect 3's ending.

I would like a happy ending option, but I don't want only happy endings. I'm fine with shep sacrificing himself/herself if their war assets or readiness aren't high enough or thats how they choose to go if their LI has been killed etc.

This! Reward players if they worked their ass off in Singleplayer and maybe even multiplayer. I for once do not like the trend of "The-hero-has-to-die-to-make-it-epic".

I like brent Knowles' take on this.

"End on a positive note. This is really important for video games... life
in general is full of ****ty stuff happening all the time. When I
invest a hundred hours into a game I need to walk away feeling like a
hero."

At the end of Mass Effect 3 I feel more like an idiot.

Mr. Knowles had some very good points.  Also, he did a good job with DA:O endings.  Maybe we should just hire him and make our own DLC.

Hey guys checking in. :D
Been thinking about ME3 in general all night and how we were suppose to have "more intimate moments" with your squad since they cut it down. Casey even said they really couldn't do banter with 12 characters. But with 7 squadmates I thought they would do more banter.... Nope not really.

HOLD THE LINE.

I had a bottle of really fine wine last weekend. I pretty much knew it was going to be a fantastic wine because I'd already tasted two other wines from the same manufacturer on previous occations. This wine had the same exiting freshness, and I happily drank glass after glass, while I felt the sweet onset of intoxication.

But as I poured the last few drops into the glass, I saw something stuck on the bottom inside the bottle. Keelah, what's this? It came loose as I shook the bottle and rolled into my hand. I studied it for a few seconds before I realized, to my great horror, that it was a turd. A glistening human turd. Queue projectile vomiting and curses both contemporary and downright archaic. I won't be having any more wine from that manufacturer until they sort their **** out, so to speak.

I agree with
Mr Chr15topher. There is nothing wrong with there being a happy ending if the player has gathered enough war assets and made the right choices I think, as long as there are other endings as well. I know I would want an ending where Shep and LI can be together after the war for my main Shep.

Maybe I should clarify.  When I say I would hate a happy ending it was under the implication that it was also the *only* ending we get.

The news article stated we wished for a happier ending as our goal here.  Which is untrue.  I think many people would still feel ripped off if the *only* ending we got was garrus playing footsies on the beach.

What we want is to have variation.  To have the distinction that was promised to us made possible through our choices reflected in the endings.

I know, they are trying to make it out as we are unhappy because we dont get a happy ending, but thats not the real problem at all. Sigh they are just trying to undermine us, but they wont!

Hehe not even a big screen can help save that ending. But the witcher 2 does come on x box in april. I think its a good thing for Bioware to get some competition.

As a PC gamer, I played The Witcher 2 immediately after completing DA2.  I was disappointed with DA2 (not to the the astronomical levels of the ME 3 ending), but TW2 more or less made me forget about it.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that a true unicorn and rainbows ending isn't realistic, or possible given the scope of the war. But I at least want my Shep to live and be able to retire on Rannoch with Tali or have his blue babies with Liara or have a future with Ashley.

If squadmates have to die, I say let it be Vega and Javik.

Earth is all but a wasteland at this point, Thessia has fallen, and all kinds of deaths have already occurred. Millions died when the Citadel was taken over, never mind what happened with the rest of the galaxy.

Not that it should be an easy-to-attain ending, but it should at least be possible. Shepard dying makes the relationships I've built seem pointless.

this is all I realy wanted that and an epilouge (I know spelt that wrong) the way that all the choices lead to shepherds death just makes it cheap and leave nothing for the player to work for/play for.

Of course it should not be the only ending. That would be just as bad. There needs to be both. And there was supposed to be both! It's unbelievable that there isn't.

To make up for there failed promises... i would have thought it was.

The people in control are for the most part not in touch with gamers, they are purely business for the most part, they will be weighing up the "cost" of doing the right thing against the risk of doing nothing.

I was thinking on this last night, and it dawned on me that BW is in something of a pickle.

If they do nothing then it seems clear that the game just isn't going to sell, and with the SWMMO having put a large hole in their bank balance and before that DA2 not doing well they can't really afford for ME3 to be a flop.

If they do produce and release an ending DLC it would cost money, but if the 'new' ending is good enough to win over the existing players there is a fair chance that our word could convince others to buy the game.

The problem here is that the second option is a gamble, a gamble that word of mouth will increase sales of the game and therefore offset what-ever it cost to produce the DLC. Very risky, even more risky if they manage to make a mess of the DLC.

Now on the face of it the way to reduce that risk would be to charge for the DLC...but there is a rather major problem with this - and one that no-one seems to have considered. The whole reason for producing a DLC would be to get more sales, but if new players are basically being told that they have to buy the game and THEN spend more money to get a good ending. Well, legal issues aside I can't see many people being willing to basically pay for the game twice. Charging existing players for a DLC, and then making it free to new customers...well that is just going to result in accusations of money-grabbing by the existing crowd who will probably never again look at a Bioware game.

Basically Bioware only has two options, do nothing and loose a LOT of money due to the game simply not selling. Or they would have to produce and release a free DLC for everyone in the hopes that sales will improve. Both are risky moves, more so for the latter depending on how long it would take and how much it would cost.

What it will come down to I think is how willing the people with the money are to take a chance, and how much affect they think we are having - basically if they think that a good ending DLC would result in us being able to convince people to go buy the game afterwards.
If Bioware is in this position, and reading, I'd point out that the same percentage of people who want a new ending ALSO agree that the rest of the game is brilliant...and we are far from afraid to say that.

If Casey Hudson wanted ME3's ending to be memorable. It won't be a positive memory. Unless they change it.

Hitler is memorable. Therefore someone should tell Mr Hudson that memorable is not always a good thing when it is quite bad.

Comparing Bioware to Hitler is disgusting. Shame on you.

I was hardly comparing an evil man who likes to ruin peoples lives and crush people spirits to the Leader of Early 20th Century **** Germany.

 Totally random, but...

People who play ME on console: did you think that the controller vibrated way less in ME3 than in ME2? I remember in ME2 whatever impact scene we had, it would vibrate like crazy and in ME3, even when Shepard was falling, it wouldn't vibrate at all :?

I had to ask that.

Yep, totally noticed that. And sometimes it would also vibrate for apparently no reason at all.

Damn this thread is moving fast!
I took 10minutes to sort out my EA / BW / XBL account and it was 15pages longer already.

Anyhows, i share your oppinions.
The game came out here in the Netherlands on march 8th, i had the CE pre-ordered for the XB360.
95% of the game was just epic, almost perfect, no big complaints there. The ending, like most of you point out here, lacked the same punch (to put it lightly).

Finished my first playthrough within 30hours, going straight to the finish. The battles became bigger, more powerfull. Every step i took towards the finale made me smile more. Then i was sitting at the tip of the chair when i was on earth, fighting against dire odds, to eventualy see Harbinger thinking im going to fight him next! And then i blacked out and had a dream i think. Something about space magic, casper, 3 different colors and friends that left you to rot. Pretty weird right! :o

On a second playthrough now, hoping i can actualy see the ending (150+ hours and counting). But i am to afraid to blackout again, and get that weird dream once more, so its on a hold for now.

I would be happy about Shephard's death if I had more about those who lived on after him/her. If I saw Garrus on Palaven shooting bottles shouting "This one's for you"; Kasumi looking fondly at an old and damaged N7 helmet that mysteriously vanished from my cabin; Karin Chakwas toasting to Shepard every year, an undrunk glass of Serrice Brandy next to her; Grunt remembering the time that I headbutted a Krogan for showing him disrespect, and Tali, sitting outside her house on Rannoch, or maybe Earth, or in a Liveship on her long voyage home, looking at a photo of me and sighing, perhaps adopting a war orphan and calling him Shepard. And maybe the whole gang meeting up at some time in the future and remembering the past. Ok, that last bit is cheesy but you get the idea.

I wouldn't mind that ending, either, but as I'm the sappy romantic type, I want my relationship with my LI to be more than just a couple nights of bumping uglies before rushing off to my death. I say let Shepard retire like he planned during the downtime before the final assault on the Conduit.

what if guys at Bioware are having a bud, shouting "wassssuup" and asking themselves "do our fans really think we would serve them a s**t like this after almost 20 years of developing games? Let's see how the fanbase reacts to our Truth DLC annoucement on monday" :)

there is always hope :P

Yeah, I don't think angry and frustrated are two things we're supposed to feel after completing an epic trilogy. My takeaway feeling was, "None of this was worth anything!" Don't make me fall in love with a world and the characters in it and then stomp on it like a deflated soccer ball.
