As someone who just finished the game late Friday night, I can say that the ending legitimately ruined my weekend. Like many of you, I have been absolutely frustrated, physically repulsed, and emotionally distraught over how this whole ending went down. It has been a negative reaction unlike any I have ever experienced. I have spent hours surfing the internet reading/watching alternate endings and explanations, even taking the time to make my first forum posts. This reaction has been totally puzzling to me, especially when I hold little hope for change. Furthermore, I was completely confused when this video, offering the ending repackaged in the (some would say absurd, overwrought) style of anime, finally brought out the tears I reserved for Shepard's tragic and heroic sacrifice.

http://www.themetaga...oblem-with.html Whoever linked to this earlier, many thanks for pointing the way to an understanding of why we have had such visceral responses to this nigh-masterpiece's conclusion. The fact that someone can make such an in depth analysis of Mass Effect shows just how far it has pushed the medium as an art form, while also showing how the developers did not achieve their full potential for many in their audience. I hope BioWare has the time and money to take another look at the ending of their opus for I do not think they achieved the desired emotional response from the majority of us.
Until then, I'll hold the line with all of you.
