That's the real reason this is such a big deal to me. Many of us have spent 5-6 years getting attached to these characters, the places and lore. If it were a single game that we spent a week with, it wouldn't hit nearly as hard as this does (the earlier mentions of RDR come to mind here). Essentially, we've been told all these years that these characters, these places are what we're fighting for, this civilization... and now, it's all gone. The Mass Effect universe as we know it ceases to exist. If that is not the very definition of sad, I don't know what is.Crimsanity wrote...

Nah. It's just that this is the way Shepard's entire saga ends, so there's ~six years riding on it. The destination's more important than it would be if this game was a standalone.
Edited to add: If that is indeed not the case, which I very much hope it is not, then I'll be jumping for joy that this was all a big mistake.
Edit 2: All that said, I'm sure the game itself will be awesome, right up until the bitter end.
