Just thought an update on the Chipin Child's Play charity donations would be nice.
We've raised over $67,000.

Excellent work

Yeah! I finished last night and at first I thought, "Well, okay."

Then a little bit later I thought, "But wait, this and this doesn't make ANY sense..."

And while I was trying to sleep I thought, "WAIT, MY DECISIONS NEVER EVEN MATTERED?!"

And now it's really bugging me a lot. I feel like everything I did throughout the series was completely invalidated in a 5 minute time span.

There's a very good chance that the BBC's technology section will do a short report/article on us tomorrow or sometime in the coming days.

Very cool ^_^

The worst part about it is how I was able to think up and posted here something that could feasibly work, and quiet a LOT of the major complaints about the ending. It is about 30 minutes of extra gameplay, with a good portion being conversation options/cutscenes, but I think it fixes a lot of issues.

Sad part, I'm not even a writer. I'm a comp sci major who runs his own business >.< It just makes it feel like those writing the ending tried for something, but failed.

I would agree that the more articulate and constructive our arguments are helps with spreading our viewpoint. It is why I keep at it.

As to why the practices in the Gaming industry differ to say Film and Literary works in test screening and narrative review is that for one the Gaming Industry is relatively young compared to other mediums this does not excuse the lack of well structured oversight be it third party like literary agents or movie studios or self regulation and using the QA department. Honestly I have never heard of a game to have gone through such processes but they inevitability must do to some extent and I believe it probably is via internal testing and discussion between writers and designers.

The industry as a whole is also very insular and lacking in proper transparency which is only really starting to become more open with the growth and necessity required of social media. Lastly money must always factor into a game when it is accepted that quick investments with short development times and high returns are what drive the publishing side of the industry. or the easier its EA, Activision what have you.

I would find it extremely hard to believe that a screening of the game's cutscenes and ending with fresh eyes would not have picked up the crushingly depressing tone and lack of narrative structure to what has gone before. I fervently hope that lessons are learned and applied to future titles of such emotive story telling but I have my doubts.

This is as always my personal take on things and I probably have oversimplified.

perhaps because vader's death was explained, we saw what happened with the group of rebels we came to care about....star wars was basically about the rise fall and redemtion of darth vader.....mass effect 3 (and the series) was about taking back earth and saving the galaxy from the reapers......you want shep to die, cool, i'm good with it, but not in every playthrough, and not with leaving you hanging....does he die on that planet? did that really happen? did they install startrekteleporters when i wasn't looking?

as dave chapelle once said 'you need to wrap it up'

Somebody who knows this guy needs to talk him down from this action, at the very least wait until after pax, give Bioware a chance to do something first, he is just making the whole movement look bad, it's him the press will be looking at as an example of the rest of us.

I wonder if he really did it. This may very well be just some PR tactic from BW/EA or maybe someone who's anti-Retake movement :?

they said they wanted to make the game like a movie. it clearly shows in the ending. movies can end like this to prepare for the next film... but this is a video game and we want choices and a proper ending! cut that movie crap..

I think some have already seen this video, but for the others it is definitively worth it. It's a bit long (30min), but it's really interesting, the guy explains what the ME3 story was originally planned to be (dark energy and human reaper), and how he would fix the ending.
His vid really deserves more views, so if you have 30 min to spend, go check it.

It really, really, really is worth watching. My only regret is realising how amazing the "dark matter" ending would have been, and that it will never be :( BUT! his proposed ending is still fantastic :)

I have an idea for an ending possibility it's two pronged

1) The ending as is becomes re-framed into indoctrination Dream Trap, where Harbinger tries to get Shepard to hopelessly give in to an outcome the Reapers desire (Synthesis, Control). If you choose either of those, Shepard is indoctrinated and you have to watch him/her betray everyone at the moment of truth.

2) The Illusive Man's role changes based on the signal he acquires from Henry Lawson and your decision with the Collector Base. If you kept the base he has enough research material to amplify the signal to control troops and Destroyers. If you destroyed it just troops. Either way, he can contribute, if convinced, a huge boon to the effort in stopping the Reapers. If he isn't convinced than he uses the troops to gamble taking down just the non-human forces and then turning the troops against the Reapers, assuring human dominance if the fleet is strong enough to defeat the Reapers.

The ending would then play out according to EMS, your surviving allies, and the denouement would go through the galactic stage telling how each race and individual people ended up.

What do you think?
