Just messaged Andy Chalk over at The Escapist with this in repsonse to his article "BioWare Considering Calls For New Mass Effect 3 Ending" since he still doesn't seem to completely understand our position.

Anyway here's the message:

"I'm down with the idea of open and productive communication with fans [although runaway incivility rarely seems far behind] but I still think the idea of demanding a new and "better" ending is ludicrous."

This is not what the Retake ME3 movement is about. While some of us would like a more happier ending (because really, who wouldn't like to get a happy ending after getting 100% completion in the game?), this isn't everyone.

Most of the quotes are word-for-word what the devs said we would (or wouldn't) get from the endings. They said that it would be possible to get every ending without mulitplayer: not true, the "Shep Lives" cutscene requires 4000 EMS, 100% completion of ME3 with every possible ally race nets 3500 EMS max. They said we would get 16 different endings. Here is a Youtube vid with all the ending cutscenes side-by-side:


They also said that the Reapers could win if we did horribly bad. That's also untrue, the Reapers lose in every ending.

This is what we are asking be fixed. We are asking the BioWare lives up to the promises they sold the game on and release a DLC that keeps those promises. That way we get what we were told we'd be given and everyone who likes the endings as is gets to keep the endings as they are - since they don't have to download the DLC.

It is very clear to me that I will be quoting people here en-mass in my letter.  There are so many good summations of the current attitude towards the endings that it is too good of an opportunity to pass up.

I like it, it is a pretty darn good metaphor and it sums how most of us are feeling about the ending.

It's long at about 30 minutes, but I think it's worth it, so reposting for those who may have missed.

It's not often I'll watch a 30 minute video of a talking head, but he kept my attention throughout, good ideas and opinions.

I agree completly. Especially the crucible trap is such an interesting idea. Pull through regardless... that would have been nice. AND CLOSURE god this idea for Tali's home. Why could we not get it?

personally, i would settle on shepard and anderson in a 2-2 tag team match versus Illusive man and star child, with harbinger as ring managar...marauder shields would be referee.

Exclamation marks and overuse of passion is noted.  I did such on purpose in my writing of that particular area of the letter because I wanted to put emphasis on feeling.  I'll tone it back.

I'll keep you posted on the final product.  This will take me much longer than expected.  I continue to run across powerful "Points of persuasion", (as I call them), on the forums that are excellent ammunition to bring to the forefront of my letter.

This letter might even take me a day or two to perfect, BUT IT IS WORTH IT.

WIthout trying to brag too much, I am regarded by my professors as a genius in the world of literature for a reason:  I take TIME and EFFORT to do what I do.  Persuasive writing is an art, and just like in "art" art, it takes TIME and EFFORT to paint a Mona Lisa.

I just finished watching TB latest Mailbox about the endings to 13-2 and ME 3. I wish people would stop comparing them because they are not same. 13-2 was from the started intended to be a TBC story. The ending is foreshadowed through out the game subtly at first then Caius comes out and tells Serah. "You are a Seeress and if you continue down this path you are going to die." Mass Effect 3 was always held up as finale the end of the series where everything would come to a head. Its story was never meant to be a TBC story. They problem here is not a TBC because the bring closer but raise new question. The problem with ME 3 ending is that it makes no kind of narrative sense and does not fit and seems to what they thought was good ending. For the most part I do agree with him that we need to stop acting like fans. We are not fans we are Bioware customers and their consumers. He is also correct in his statement that we did this to ourselves by not taking them too task earlier but as the saying goes... there's a time, rhyme and reason this is happening now.

Mass Effect as a whole did what most games aspire to, it gives you a fully fleshed out universe with so much potential. So many likable characters, excellent character development, a story to die for, and unique interesting races.

You got to play through the eyes of a character that you shaped through your adventures and morale decisions. Sadly though all of this was yanked away and the galaxy of wonder destroyed within 10 minutes because of a lackluster ending that provides little insight on the reapers, gives no closure to you or your team mates, and worst of all leaves you with plot holes that could fill up a black hole and still keep going.

Whatever interest we had in the universe was shattered when we got this poor debauched excuse for an ending. Leaving us to wonder "Why? Why did they do this?"

Not only did the ending wrong ME3, it wronged the whole trilogy, the gamers, and the lore as a whole. No simple task for just a "bad ending." No this was far worse just just a bad ending. It was the utter destruction of a franchise we've come to know and love.

The worst crime they could commit which they did was taking away our "Choice."

Although it was posted back in January and is about ME1, I feel this clip really sums up the insanity of what happened tp Mass Effect. I'd rather have had this happen at the end of ME3 than starchild.
