Agreed. It's a tad bit annoying. These leaks, I wish they never exsisted. We're gasping at straws. We want info, and we're getting it any way possible. We read the rumored script, we read various rumors, we see 10 second clips and we think we now know all there is to know about the ending. We're dissapointed.

It's annoying. Firstly, why are people so badly seaching for the ending. Isn't there a thrill of discovering it on your own?

Secondly, why don't we just wait the few remaing days, play it, experience the full ending, from the beginning to the credits all the way to the menu screen.

Then come back and discuss what you thought. This just seems so...I don't know pointless in a way.

Eh, for me it's about the decision to put down $60 on a game that I don't believe will end well.

Oh BTW, Kaidan is now Bisexual and Ashley isn't.

Ashley is such a tightwad there is no way she was ever going to be open to clam jamming.

If that's the plan, it would explain why the space editions and such only have poo endings.

That would be an epic facilitated self-troll on BioWare's part. I would commend them.

But I find it unlikely.

Fans didn't cry loudly enough, I suppose.

I'm curious to see how Kaidan's dialogue plays out. I'm hoping it at least isn't that "If It's You, It's OK" fanfiction-sounding rubbish that was floating around before.

As long as it's not as ham-handed as when Anders hits on you it should be fine. But yeah, the "I'm totally cool with penises as long as it's your penis" is a bit...weird.

I'm under treatment for clinical depression (of the seriously debilitating illness sort, not the 'having the blues' sort), and I have to swallow quite literally a mouthful of pills everyday just not to break down. This game has been more or less the only thing I've been able to enjoy these past couple of months. I'm quite pissed at what we've been seeing so far, and thus I've been rationalizing for the possibility of a reasonably 'happy' ending. I think there's plenty of leeway for that.

The last thing I need is a piece of pure popular entertainment----as someone has put very nicely, 'the gaming equivalent of comfort food----pretending that it's bloody King Lear... And people found the ending of that play so unbearable, it was performed up until the 20th century with a contrived, as you call, 'Disney' ending.

Can you just imagine if it turns out that it's the same crappy ending all around with just slight variations? How many people will NOT go back and replay ME or ME2. Too bad no one can measure how much replay is going on pre-ME3 to compare it to how much replay goes on after ME3 release. I'd say if the amount of replay drops off a cliff, probably did something wrong.

Again my theory is twofold, 1) they boxed themselves into a corner promising so much variety on endings that when it came time to deliver they were like oh CRAP, better just throw a disappointing ending out there for everyone and try to spin it as preplanned melancholy, and 2) they were trying to lay an easy foundation to build future ME franchise products off of.

I think you're right on both fronts.
However, I honestly believe they could have prevented all this by just making one CANON ending for the series and basing all subsequent titles off of that ending. Doing so would give them massive amounts of leeway for other endings to be explored, as they now wouldn't have to worry about trying to tie in all the variables into one coherent future. Sure, they've been spoiling us with the whole 'import your own world' thing as of late, and I know it would ****** some people off to consider that one ending might be canon - but I'd take a canon ending over this whole debacle any day. In fact it really doesn't bother me at all. Not when it happened with Revan, nor when it happens in the Elderscrolls games where the main quests for one game are said to have been completed in the next - regardless of how many characters I make that purposely avoid it.

Either that, or they could also avoid this WHOLE thing by setting the next game thousands of years in the future - when all the specifies of the Reaper battle will have long faded into myth. They can easily come up with time line events to make all the possible endings fit this way, and still give us the endings we want for this game. It really isn't THAT hard.

Very wise and sage words.  And very reasonable.  Sad they didn't pursue that path.

Heck I think most people wouldn't have even MINDED if, in order to make follow-on products easier to build, fans were told "in order to reduce the number of starting points we had to reset some of the decisions in your personal playthroughs."  Fans aren't stupid and they get that.  But trying to force it on them with a universally crappy ending was not the right way to go.  I think they overextended their reach on this and it will come back to bite them.

I still go back to they could have given everyone the ending they were hoping for just by doing a generic big battle followed by epilogue slideshow like they did for DA:O, and also Fallout New Vegas.  Hell I replayed that Awakenings expansion again, like 15-20 hours, JUST so I could see that ONE slide again that talked about how my Warden left to go track down his "raven-haired sorceress."  That's the power of personalization, which I think they miss.

I dunno if anybody is with me on this, but... ME always seemed to be on the optimistic side. Like in DAO everything was very grim, and Ultimate Sactifice looked awesome (I always did it before I fell in love with Loghain and went for Redeemer), and it had that feel "let's kill the archdemon, but life will still suck". And ME was like "we are intergalactic badasses who are gonna save the world and party hard afterwards". I understand the sacrifices must be made, but it just doesn't go with the tone of the series. It doesn't even go with the tone of the third game.

I disagree.

The lore and setting itself is actually pretty dark and cynical (rampant racism, no justice, corrupt totalitarian government with legalized secret police, slaver raids, genocides etc.)

The thing is Shepard kind of ruined this by seemingly being able to get away with any idealistic act without any repercussions. The endings are pretty much just that all coming back to bite him.

Face it, your evidence is flawed at best.

Except you have literally no evidence to the contrary. We have the better argument as we actually have something.

But here is the thing....I never even judged if the ending was good or bad...you are. You're the one that needs evidence, not me.

We have it, you just refuse to accept it. Fine, not my problem.

Sure, it's not much, but it's actually something. Just look at the visuals and tell me how to skew it as a happy ending.

Oh wait, you don't even have music or even dialogue...which can set the tone. You can't go by visuals alone, its flimsy.

Do you play Mass Effect soley for the ending?

What if the ending was excellent, and everything else was drivel?

It just seems weird that you would the ending for yourself to decide whether you should purchase the game or not.

Not to contradict my previous post... I somehow doubt this would be the only ending. I'm trying to think, and wracking my brains. I keep coming up with the same answer. What would be the point? Why would you go through so much just to have end so terribly. Remember I don't mind the bad ending. I'm just pondering, what would be the point.
