I hate posting anything in a forum, but I thought this was worth bringing up.

We've gone through this "cycle" at least once before. The Neverwinter Nights 2 community went through nearly the exact same situation with Bioware. NWN2, a relativeily buggy game (ME3 has its fair share of bugs that reviewers have too easily excused) was delivered with an ending that made almost everything you did meaningless (Look it up). Fans complained and threatened various actions and such, but not much came of it, except some patches to fix bugs. The problem with the ending was not "fixed" until the Mask of the Betrayer expansion came out and extended the story, while explaining what exactly happened to your party members in the OC. Someone could probably dredged some of those old posts up, but Bioware has been down this road before, just never with social media as it is today.

Anyway, I hope they fix it. I suspect they intended some special expansion as DLC or whatever from the beginning. I believe they knew what they were doing with the ending and left the narrative open so they could extend it (not change it), or else they wouldn't have provided the "Breath" ending. But I also think they never expected the outcry over the ending(s) to be so loud. But then again, the ending(s) were terrible, objectively terrible. It's not a matter of taste or preference; there are things technically wrong with the endings as they are now. And it's my opinion that the ending to a work of fiction is at least as important as its beginning, as if the beginning of the Mass Effect saga was as "polarizing" as its current ending, the series would have never seen a sequel.

Hold the line for those who came before and those who will undoubtedly come after.

Oh daggonit! So, what you're telling us is that we have to release a colored shockwave to end the crap?

Okay so they don't have to admit there is a problem. They can still call us complaing whining bastards, but make an ending to "appease the fans." EA/Bioware doesn't have a lot of options right now. I understand none of them are exactly in their best interests either. They need to make a choice soon though. This is going to hit them hard if they keep up with whats going on.

that very well could be the strategy.  continue to treat us like children in the press and in the general interaction with us and then eventually say "we love our fans so much that we're giving in", kind of like a long suffereing parent with a spoiled brat.  but it hasn't been very long, only a few days.

these are their choices:
1. don't produce anythin, wait us out, we'll get tired, go away, whatever.
2. treat us like children, eventually we'll get tired, go away.
3. treat s like children, then give in while never admitting to any wrong doing
4. giving in and admittin wrong doing.

In choices 3 and 4, creating new content is going to cost them money.  The employee has to be paid even if the employee is at fault.  So have you thought about the P.R. nightmare if they give and then charge us for the content?  Even if they don't admit any fault, they will still not come out of that keeping their pristine p.r. image.  no, the best thing is to try to make us go away.

This also does not affect just EA/Bioware.  As soon as they create new content it is probably going o affect the relationship between the major reviewers and the game makers.  To make new content will be to say there was something wrong with the game and the reviewers did not catch it.

This is all just my opinion, however, strategic management was one of my favorite and better classes at university.

I don't think I could bring myself to return it to be honest, I mean I am pretty sure the place I bought it from would be happy to refund it. I just won't do that, I loved ME3 it was just the nonsensical ending I loathed

Thing is, this is why we as consumers have no power over companies that keep selling us crap.

We, as a society today have no clue how to go without.  None.  Nadda.  Zip.

We are so used to having everything, right at our fingertips, all the time and whenever we want it.

We buy things without any thought as to the industries we are supporting, like ones that ship incomplete or totally buggy games.

If you want to send a message as a consumer, you've got to sacrifice, and sacrifice big over the long haul, and sadly, no one is really willing to do it in the numbers needed to effect real change in the world.

We've got the most powerful weapon, but not enough people willing to do without to use it.

I would and possibly will return it if we do not get endings that make sense, I returned skyrim for a full refund because it was totally unplayable on PS3.

I think that's the single valid reason for a return----but then, by the time we find that out, the 'return window' will long be closed.

In that case I'll just sell mine for $0.01

I'm sure you've got it pretty much all nailed. Just reiterrate that we're not looking for the existing endings to be removed, they can be kept for existing fans, but merely more choice in the matter. Basically don't allow any room for misinterpretation. Feel free to look here for what I'm getting at.

Apart from that I'm sure you know how to hold yourself.

pretty much all i had up till now. but damn..

thank you for your input, i'll try to keep it in mind.. :/

Not sure what you meant  I am not trying to undermine you in any way whatsoever.

I think it's best you just say what you feel; if we all parrot rote responses then they won't take us as seriously. We are stronger as a group of individuals with differing beliefs and desires united by a common goal, just as Shepard attempted to prove in ME3 (and BioWare disproved with the Starchild Hypothesis)

EDIT:

IMO they will fix the ending of ME3 now...its almost inevitable, but I will STILL be here to hold the line for Dragon Age 3...they are not goin to destroy that one too. I loved DA:O, DA2 I defended and was decent but nothing compared to Origins...I will hold this line until I see BOTH games completed and done right!

and I know what you meant. You mean you've been here since March 7th. But I couldn't help myself and had to make the connection between 7th from Dec 7th 1941 and March 7th 2012 :P

Oh I am - I even said thank you........we disagree on the ending but agree on ME - right now they are feeling big time heat - specially with Best Buy refunding and now Amazon refunding opened games......

That is major - that means - EA taking hits where it hurts - because their customers are going - Fix this now because we are losing money and if are.......its getting passed to you.

HOLD THE LINE - keep the pressure on and turn up the heat.......don't let them rest - don't let them sleep........we have the numbers - the resources to keep this up 24/7......they don't.......

the most obvious answer to this is that bioware didn't know its fans.  you guys all only thought you knew each other.

oh i'm sorry.. didn't mean to sound that way.

let's just say, i'm currently a little bit confused on the 'how' and 'why' and 'what the hell'.

and yes, i suppose you're right about that. let's just say that i'll try to do my best without giving anything that might be used against us. :) who knows if it's even going to be used in anyway.. but yeah.

Looks like bioware have 3 options now:

#1 If they release a PAYED ending related  dlc ----------------------------------Gain lots of money/Loose 50% of fanbase loyalty and respect.
#2 If they release a FREE ending related  dlc-------------------------------------Losse lots of money/keep 90% of fanbase loyalty and respect.
#3 if they don't release any ending related dlc------------------------------------Don't loose or gain any money/Loose 90% of fanbase loyalty and respect.

Yeah you have a point if the return window is long gone I will no doubt just keep it. I would never play it again and it would technically be the worst birthday present I have ever gotten though.
