I might be in the minority here, but I for one am not going to return my ME3CE. Because really, aside from the last 5 minutes of the game, it is the best game I have ever played. I couldn't stop talking about it to whoever would listen. The multi-player is fantastically fun (I couldn't wait to run around as an Asari commando [in my case adept] after Benezia taunted "Have you ever faced an Asari Commando Squad").

And the fact that when I watched the endings it pretty much ruined the weekend I finished my first play through just proves how fantastic the trilogy, including 3, has been. The story and characters of ME3 are the most compelling of any video game I have ever played. I may or may not have been moved to tears at more than one point in ME3.

The fact we are so angry and betrayed is a testament to the brilliance of the first 99% of the series. Why would I return such a thing? Especially when our goal is to fix it. Returning the game seems fatalistic; if everyone returns it, who will buy it again? If I were BioWare and everyone returned the game, I sure wouldn't bother fixing the end.

Am I mad at BioWare/EA? Yes. Am I ever going to buy another product from them? Probably not (unless they fix this mess). Do I still love my ME books, comics, and games? Of course.

But I do not believe returning the game will solve anything. The fact that places are offering full refunds though... Now that is a powerful message. But I am of the opinion that if everyone returns the game, there is no incentive for EA to fix it. They will write it off as a loss and continue on churning out games with no regard to quality.

I believe that EA needs to learn that there is power in a brand (Mass Effect) and that cultivating loyalty and support around that brand (and not ruining it) is a highly profitable endeavor and as such, it is in their best interests to issue a statement saying "We messed up, we will make this right", fix it, and cash in on DLC, spin off games, novels, etc...

And as always, HOLD THE LINE!

I had an idea. I think it's to difficult to accomplish, but what's your opinion?

Someone should make a Marauder Shields statue, send it to Bioware with the following message:

"He tried to save us from the endings. Now he tries to save your fanbase. We love Mass Effect. That's our motivation." (The text can change, I had this idea a minute ago).

My concern is the following: I get the feeling the people (outside the Reatake movement)  don't get the message that we all do this because we LOVE Mass Effect. We have to get this message to them, too.

Well, my thoughts are well written in my head, but often difficult to understand from others. I hope you get my message ;)

I'd also note that NO film director with half a brain would finish a film with the sort of ending we got. Even if he went with 'Shepard dies' he'd make sure we have closure.

Exactly this.

Joss Whedon would. He loves to make people miserable.

That made me laugh.  He does love a good tragedy

Yes that is true, he does, but this ending is not a good tragedy, it is just empty and sensless which is something he never did. Nobody would do that on purpose in the filming industry. He would never get hired again :P

...actually, now that I think of it, if we want to shift the perception of RetakeME3 from "spoiled fans" to "dissatisfied customers," we should get in touch with The Consumerist. That's kind of their thing. Does someone want to contact them?

Over 2000 pages, and the beat goes on.

I originally started playing BioWare games because of good word of mouth. I've spoken to a few people this week who have said something like, "Mass Effect 3? That's the game with the really bad ending right?"

No matter how good the game is this is it's reputation in the public sphere. Casual gamers, like I was, looking to find a new game are going to see it on a store shelf and think 'oh right this is the game with the crap ending' and put it back. It's not just us vocal loyal fans BioWare is in danger of losing it's also new customers. Between this ending and the outcry over DA2 BioWare is getting a new not very good reputation.

Maybe someone should start organizing a flashmob (are they still doing that?) for PAX. A a special Moment 100 ppl start lying on the ground and playing sheps death scene, stretching out and arm and yelling "retake me3". xD

We already have a PAX East Platoon going, I think ArmyKnifeX is organizing it, but from what I heard we are going for the more calm option of just asking our questions.

Why yes I am :)

You're right Hydralysk - anything else would really be counterproductive to our message and our purpose, and would just give the gaming media more fodder to bash us with.

I find it amazing that they're avoiding the use of 'disgruntled customers' complaning about 'product quality', instead 'gamers' complaning about 'video games' just to make people think that gamers are overlooking real world issues and worrying about 'games'.

Exactly right. I feel very strongly that we need to stop characterizing it that way ourselves. We aren't "fans" or "gamers" - we're "customers" and "consumers." Can we start using those terms? Words matter.

Precisly good sir, we are not angry fans or angry gamers, we are by the definition of the term, angry customers and angry consumers.

Use those words and skip the rest!

This is an EXCELLENT idea.

But whoever contacts them (I can't as I have to log off in a moment) has to make his or her point very, very succintly, and with no recourse to sentimentalism at all.

it cannot work like a classic tragedy, where the hero has to die in order for the story to make sense.

there was, for example, no fatal choice, which steeres the story ultimately to the death of shepard.

all that could happen is, that he fails his task, but that is not a "must"

hope i was able to make my point, the longer im trying to write something here, the more i think that my english is not really good...

:D

Wow... 2.000 pages reached... that´s 50.000... in words: fifty thousand replies
(sorry, couldn´t resist)

50.000 words is the border between a short story and a novel.

No 50 thousand words is the length of a story. A novel is 100k to 300k words on average.

Actually anything over 40k words is a novel. NaNoWriMo requires them to be at least 50k words.

The way I always understood it, anything from 1,000 words to 10,000 words was a short story, 10,000 to 50,000 a Story, and anything significantly more than that (like 70,000 plus words) would be considered a novel.

I don't live in the US so things might be taught/classified somewhat differently here

I thought that was in the metro report, but they were talking about their own discusion and did not make it clear where her quote ended and their own reporting began.
