I didn't think much about it but hearing that dialogue again it doesn't really seem to fit with ME3's current ending either.

I might be in the minority here, but I for one am not going to return my ME3CE. Because really, aside from the last 5 minutes of the game, it is the best game I have ever played. I couldn't stop talking about it to whoever would listen. The multi-player is fantastically fun (I couldn't wait to run around as an Asari commando [in my case adept] after Benezia taunted "Have you ever faced an Asari Commando Squad").

And the fact that when I watched the endings it pretty much ruined the weekend I finished my first play through just proves how fantastic the trilogy, including 3, has been. The story and characters of ME3 are the most compelling of any video game I have ever played. I may or may not have been moved to tears at more than one point in ME3.

The fact we are so angry and betrayed is a testament to the brilliance of the first 99% of the series. Why would I return such a thing? Especially when our goal is to fix it. Returning the game seems fatalistic; if everyone returns it, who will buy it again? If I were BioWare and everyone returned the game, I sure wouldn't bother fixing the end.

Am I mad at BioWare/EA? Yes. Am I ever going to buy another product from them? Probably not (unless they fix this mess). Do I still love my ME books, comics, and games? Of course.

But I do not believe returning the game will solve anything. The fact that places are offering full refunds though... Now that is a powerful message. But I am of the opinion that if everyone returns the game, there is no incentive for EA to fix it. They will write it off as a loss and continue on churning out games with no regard to quality.

I believe that EA needs to learn that there is power in a brand (Mass Effect) and that cultivating loyalty and support around that brand (and not ruining it) is a highly profitable endeavor and as such, it is in their best interests to issue a statement saying "We messed up, we will make this right", fix it, and cash in on DLC, spin off games, novels, etc...

And as always, HOLD THE LINE!

+1 this

I've got some pretty nice abstract art going on in this bucket. Based on the color (Cherry Pepto-Bismol), I think I picked Destroy. It's still better than the Mass Effect 3 ending. At least this doesn't involve space magic.

Yeah I heard that too, I never actually saw the tweet though so don't get too excited.

Anyone got a link? It's probably wishful thinking hoping for something solid re: the ending at this stage but I can dream can't I?

It IS super important to make it clear that we do love Mass Effect and that we're not just griping to irritate people. This game has embodied so much more for us than just an RPG or just a shooter. It's a sweeping epic about courage and heroism, about rejecting prejudice and forming friendships. I'll always remember the first time Joker pulled the Normandy into the Citadel and the shivers I got hearing the music and feeling the wonder of it all. Also the triumph of the human spirit in Shepard, who we can both identify with and see ourselves in, at our best and at our worst. That's why I care and why I'm here.

the funny part is - I want that game - I know people that have it and love it - its what fable should of been......

But can't; same with Syndicate......again I want that game - but won't.....until this resolved.

I'm assuming that this is a different Syndicate than the one released by Bullfrog in '93 followed up by the awesome, Matrix inspiring Syndicate Wars.

Ahh, it's the same franchise. I wonder if EA can kill that one too...

I would not do that too. Even if I could, cause in germay there is no refund at this moment.

I wouldn't here. I mean, I won't get full refund for the game, so I might as well keep it. But I'm never playing another Bioware game (at least not ME related ones)

Over 2000 pages, and the beat goes on.

I originally started playing BioWare games because of good word of mouth. I've spoken to a few people this week who have said something like, "Mass Effect 3? That's the game with the really bad ending right?"

No matter how good the game is this is it's reputation in the public sphere. Casual gamers, like I was, looking to find a new game are going to see it on a store shelf and think 'oh right this is the game with the crap ending' and put it back. It's not just us vocal loyal fans BioWare is in danger of losing it's also new customers. Between this ending and the outcry over DA2 BioWare is getting a new not very good reputation.

Same here. Word of mouth is the reason I buy most of my games. I bought Skyrim due to word of mouth, got into the Persona Series due to word of mouth, got into the Tales Series due to word of mouth, got The World Ends With You due to word of mouth, got into Kingdom Hearts due to word of mouth, Got Dragon Age Origins due to word of mouth, heck I originally got into Mass Effect due to word of mouth...

I *think* this came from Metro news, who reported on the story yesterday and added that they would have more on the story tomorrow. Not sure if that was just the Metro, or if they were waiting for a statement from BW themselves.

Pretty sure thats what it is, that they were going to do their own ending anlysis on wed, and the quote they had was not separated from their own text that well.

some are talking about burnout....here's my suggestion, tell us here, what have you done; a little pat on the back for yourself and the others.....ie:

the endings were a let down for so many reasons. i didn't get to reunite with my LI, i got stuck on some jungle planet so i have:
donated to childs play, singed onto twitter to get #RetakeME3 out there, voted on facebook, warned my brother against wasting his money on ME3 (got him 1 and 2 last year for xmas to get him hooked, boy do i feel like a fool) warned the guy at work playing that he may be a bit disappointed with the end

these are just a few things i've done...how about you?

Actually anything over 40k words is a novel. NaNoWriMo requires them to be at least 50k words.

The way I always understood it, anything from 1,000 words to 10,000 words was a short story, 10,000 to 50,000 a Story, and anything significantly more than that (like 70,000 plus words) would be considered a novel.

I don't live in the US so things might be taught/classified somewhat differently here

I'm in the UK and that's what I've always been taught to base it on. I'm kind of an aspiring author with severe motivational issues, but it's what I was lead to base my wordcount on. After all, in a standard print edition, 50k words is about 150+ pages I think. It's the smaller end of novel scale, but a novel nonetheless. But you're right, on average it's probably closer to 60-80k for your average scifi novel.

If something good has come out of this ot has to be that the websites that are unbias and those that show/respect the opinions of the gaming public have really shone through and those that seem to have some other motives are really lookng bad! I now know who to trust when loooking for reviews

I agree. Because we care so much, and we think the ending did not live up to ME standards, we are here.

Now if only Bioware would get that...<_<

Just for anyone who hasn't seen it, this video is pretty awesome.

Really well edited, if a movement can have a trailer I think this guy nailed it.

Exactly. If this was some other thing I would just forget about it and move on thinking "Oh well that was terrible." But since it's Mass Effect and I spent so many hours crafting my multiple games and getting to know this universe I was hurt.

...actually, now that I think of it, if we want to shift the perception of RetakeME3 from "spoiled fans" to "dissatisfied customers," we should get in touch with The Consumerist. That's kind of their thing. Does someone want to contact them?

This is an EXCELLENT idea.

But whoever contacts them (I can't as I have to log off in a moment) has to make his or her point very, very succintly, and with no recourse to sentimentalism at all.

Okay, I'm doing it. They ask for a link to a webpage and a comment. I'm linking to this Forbes article and saying the following in the comment:

"Customers who bought the video game Mass Effect 3 are upset with its ending - it does not fulfil the expectations of the series or the promises made by the developer. Worse, upset consumers are being dismissed as "whiny fans" rather than listened to as "dissatisfied customers." Not only is this a problem specific to this game, it speaks to a toxic mentality in the industry as a whole. I would be interested in The Consumerist's take on the issue. You can find more information at the following links:

Sound good? Anything you'd change?

Those guys will say anything for a small amount of rare goodies. I've stopped watching them ages ago. Their opinion is often so neutral you can't really call it a review.
