The more I think about the ending and the final mission, the more I get the impression that not only the final sequence was rushed to meet a production deadline, but rather the whole mission after Priority: Cerberus Headquarters.
As AngryJoe has stated in his "10 reasons why fans hate the ending video", the whole final mission feels kinda out of place, especially compared to the fantastic feeling of the suicide mission in Mass Effect 2.
My expectations were probably too high, but I really thought that I would be able to direct fleets/groundtroops during the final mission, just like I assigned the different specialists during the suicide mission.
Thats where I thought all of my collected war assets would come into play.
Not just as an arbitrary magical number that ultimatly means nothing, but as real options that I, the player, would actively use during the final battle. And that would be where bad choices made in game 1/2/3 would mean death to main characters and/or war assets, leading to a wide range of different endings, from "Everyone survives" to "Reapers win". I could give SO many examples how that would have worked, both during the spacebattle and the ground assault.
Instead we see some of the races standing around in the resistance base and a brief cutscene where some turians and krogans are involved.....that's it. No Geth, no Rachni, no Elcor anywhere and ultimately a complete lack of player choice. Extremly disappointing final mission compared to the suicide mission in ME2.
But that's just wishfull thinking about a mindblowing final mission. And even If they had done something like that in the first place, it would have been ruined by the ending anyway! Regardless I still think this game is almost perfect...up until...well you know the final 10 minutes

.
