Okay, after watching this (and the video in its description), I've convinced myself that the indoctrination theory is the only reasonable answer because I simply cannot believe that Bioware did such a shoddy job with the ending.

I want to believe it, but if it is true, that the whole game Shepard was undergoing indoctrination, Bioware not only had a pretty crappy ending, but sold an incomplete game. All of the promotional material was about taking back Earth. If the game ended (in the best ending) with you waking up after beating the reaper indoctrination in your mind, the game "should" continue. I see it as a slightly better alternative, but not by much. It still is an incomplete game.

That's not really true for this thread. I think it would be safe to say that more or less everyone thinks it's at least a cogent explanation for the mess at the end; i.e., that it's at least plausible.

But not everyone thinks it's true, or that it would be the best way out.

Actually, having seen the 'Last Hours' thing, we all know at this point, that it wasn't really the writers' intention.

Also curious, where can I get the best description of the indoctrination theory? I have a feeling I should read it more thoroughly than I did the first time round.

Especially since you guys all believe it so much.

Should be in the resource website on goikius site (its on my sig)

A lot of people believe in the indoc theory because its about the only thing that would make the last part of the game sensible. Call it grasping at straws if you will, but thats what shepard has shown us through the games, hoping against hope.

Hold the line!!!

I wrote my thoughts there as a teacher of creative writing and literature, if anyone is interested. My history working retail will be the next part of my analysis. I have enjoyed some of the discussion, but it's mostly been "Great post," I'd love if people argued the intrinsic value and issues of the ending with me!

Hmmm true, but I did make a point earlier that this is kind of what Bioware wanted and then I got hounded for not paying attention to the Indoctrination theory so I was thinking I should look at it again and see if I did indeed miss something.

We're all entitled to our own opinions and that's what makes this community so great but not everyone believes this theory.

Happy ending, sad ending...we should have them all, when you think about it...why? Because thats what we were promised. But beyond that, it needs to be an ending...not a mind screw with so many holes in it that they'd need another series of games just to explain *sigh*

Totaly agree

Well people the Puerto Rican Specter unit is signing out for today.

Remember to hold the line.

That means:

Stay ontop of articles that defend the ending/call us whiny entitled gamers. Don't let them blatantly run all over us, flood their comments section with rebuttals and civil counter arguments.

Do not loose hope over a mis-interpreted statement as so many people have done with previous false alarms.

And most importantly of all remember we're in this, more than anything else, because we love the ME universe, and Bioware promised a product that they ultimately failed to deliver on.

Bye for now, will be back in a few hours. Line better still be here

From an interview with Mark Meer (broShep):

Question: Recently "Mass Effect 3" has been in the news because of its controversial ending. Longtime fans of the franchise are asking "Bioware" to remake the ending and provide a satisfying resolution to the series. What's your take on the subject and would you be open in returning to the role?

"Bioware has said recently that they are considering all fan feedback, positive and negative. I don't actually know anything about their actual plans (and I couldn't say anything if I did), but I do know that there will be upcoming DLC. Changing or expanding the end of the game wouldn't be unprecedented. The gaming community saw it a few years ago with Fallout 3 from Bethesda and the Broken Steel DLC. I really enjoyed Fallout 3, and didn't really have a problem with its ending, but was thrilled to get the Broken Steel disc. Obviously, if Bioware wants to record more dialogue, I'd be there. I'm definitely scheduled to record more dialogue for DLC, but at this stage, I don't know what that will entail."

Not an endorsement of the cause, but not a condemnation either. :D

Awsome vid, it inspires hope and without hope we have nothing. A little quote I learned from the game and why I am still fighting to this day for a better end. This series doesn't deserve to go down like this, I love the game and it's characters too much to have it end this way.

Well you can understand this I mean he can't really say "Woohoo! go the RetakeME3 movement!" even if he wanted to, and to be smart he can't really go "the fans are stupid and should get over it" I respect him for how he handled this :)

Just a quick note: Don't take it personally if people seem unwilling to discuss details with you. I've read your piece, and although you have a number of original points to make, the rest of the themes that you've brought up, have been discussed to death by this point. A lot of people are really mentally tired right now, to talk at length about those.

A humble suggestion would be to prepare a concise version, perhaps focusing on your reading of the 'lack of closure' at the end. I'm sure you'd get more responses then, because you have points there that haven't been raised before. (that's no mean feat by the way)

Guys, when you check in could you please make an effort to skim the last page or two before asking for updates?

I know it takes time and this thread moves fast, but we're getting a lot of these posts and it doesn't help the cause when others can look at this thread and say it's padded with spam. That goes for posts that don't have much content besides "hold the line" or somesuch.

Stick with it, but don't give the critics any fodder! :)
