This was posted in a blog  dated from before the game release.

"I’ve just spent four and a half thousand words discussing a topic without coming to any conclusion or making any particular point. Which was always going to be the case, I think. I doubt the writers at BioWare will be able to provide sufficient closure on what the Reapers are and where they came from. They may try and shy away from giving away any answers at all, though they run the risk of the mystique falling flat on its head at the same time. Dealing with the expectations everybody has set, it’ll be impossible to please all of them. Or even most of them.
I simply hope the games consider these issues on some level, as opposed to reducing the Reapers to really generic space monsters that want to devour all life for the sake of it."

I suggest reading the entire article, but this last paragraph caught my attention.

And that's exactly what Bioware did with the reapers..

Didn't want to post in his thread, only helps keep it from disapearing.

Simply put 'Vocal minority' is insulting. And its meant to be insulting even if its factually correct in context.

If they didn't want it to be insulting they could use the phrase "Vocal portion" or "Vocal part" of our community.

Its simple psych 101 material and people claim to be trained in PR.

I don't want a fan created ending. I want them to create an ending that reflects Mass Effect 3, and the person Shepard has become. I want to know what size a footprint I left in the galaxy and the lives I touched. I want to be empowered as Shepard, and not emasculated as the tool of an AI.

So now we have 2 sides fighting. Side 1, fights for change. Side 2, fights to keep it the same. More thought is going into Side 1, where as Side 2 either insults Side 1 or just complains about how this is the end of the gaming world if BW gives in...

Hold the line guys 'n' gals.

Seem to be a lot of these folks popping up today. Strange...

I don't get it, if you loved the endings and can't be more happy with the product you were sold, why aren't you still playing it? If I had been given something amazing I wouldn't have played it only once and then wanted to break the disc.

I'm a little worried that people think we've just "won." Looking at the statement several times over, it still seems really vague and non-committal in a number of respects. I just hope people don't disengage and forget about this and let nothing come of it. Keep engaged, keep discussing. Keep on Holding the Line.

I'm going to take the second to repost myself in a plea for continued civility, by and large we've been doing an excellent job. Let's keep our heads in the game people. (sorta pun intended)

----------------------------

I'm tired of the BS and games, the PR double speak and general gamesmanship evident in the whole mess of this. I feel like a clear statement shouldn't be that hard to issue. While I appreciate Dr. M's addressing the lot of us directly instead of going through the big news outlets it did indeed feel like more of the same, smoke, mirrors and ultimately a big run around. That said none of that is an excuse to start acting like a bunch of idiots. Some of you have even seemed to catch the idea that Bioware is some how "the enemy" or the bad guy in this little cluster. Newsflash Bioware is NOT the enemy. There is no enemy here and some of you lot need to check your IFFs if you're shooting your mouths off and generally acting like ****s. Bioware is a company who's passionate about their products and I'd say we are at least as passionate about it as they are, they love to create and we love what they create,

Run around or not Dr. M, Casey, Chris, Jessica and everyone else taking the time to actually talk to us are talking to us and you can be assured that that they are listening. This is the long game we're playing here folks. Nothing's going to be solved in a week, two weeks or even *gasp* three weeks. I think the estimate everyone's saying about the first serious word coming at PAX is probably close to accurate. It really doesn't matter. Dr. M, no less then the co-founder of the company just told us April. So we have to wait till April and acting like a herd of idiots is not going to change that at all. Well... it could make them change their minds about listening to us, and shut down the starts of a healthy dialogue on the subject.

There's a common concept in the military called bearing. It refers to keeping your cool and carrying on no matter what in the nine hells is going on around you. While most of the Retake movement are card carrying unprintable civilians (not that there's a problem with that ;) ) we can stand to take a leaf from that particular book. So let's keep our bearing, continue to comport ourselves as the rational mature adults and teenagers we are and hold the line!

Like you said, while I do agree that we`ve made significant progress I heartily disagree that we`ve won yet.

Having said that, I am genuinely glad that you feel that way. I`ve seen you posting as we`ve been going through this together and I can honestly say that the attitude you`ve shown has made it my honor to hold the line with you. I`m still filled with uncertainty and anxiety at this point, but I hope when the day of the official announcement comes I can join you in a celebration of achieving what we set out to do, giving Mass Effect 3 the ending it deserves.

This is a very classy statement. Bravo.

Decided to play through the ending again (my Xbox was probably feeling a bit of neglect of late) and I'll admit to a bit of hope creeping in. I won't say that hope isn't without measured skepticism, but I agree we have made progress. This is not a small undertaking on BW's part and I think it is fair to give them time to respond with detail knowing they may not have full detail at the moment. I'll be here holding the line, but credit where credit is due.

Computim wrote...

Some of you will probably disagree with my opinion on what I'm about to say.

I'd like to start off by congratulating everyone who held the line. You guys are the only reason we've succeeded. We may not have gotten everything we wanted.. but in the end EA and Bioware customer service have acknowledged our problems and are going to work on a solution that pleases as many people as possible... especially those of us who stood up, made a bunch of noise and caused someone to finally come over to see what the fuss was about.

After having spent most of the day reading opinions of the press (the same press who supports EA) and their support of changing the idea, after having seen various associations that EA is a member of say that they would be changing the ending, after having seen my own Facebook thread in which everyone is convinced that they'll be changing the endings, I'm confident enough that they will at least compromise with us (which in the end is as much as I could really ask for).

There have been sacrifices made along the way. We've donated over $77,719.50 at this point to a charity, over a total over just over a week.. that's incredible, so incredible that even some political campaigns and publications were taking notice this week.

We've made our voice heard, to the point that we overrode the reviews of a gaming press that took notice, and was put on notice that we wouldn't stand for their biased reviews anymore. Along the way we met some amazing journalists as well who shared our story, and some who told their own stories and stories we didn't even think of. We've put the publishers on notice that, even if your reviewers are in your pocket, your clients are the gamers, and without them, you have no business.

We met a few excellent members of the Bioware Staff.. I'd like to thank Jessica Merizan again, as well as Stanley Woo and RaenImrahl of the moderators for engaging with the community. Without you three I guarantee this would have been uglier and far more damaging to Bioware than it was. Your company, the community, and I owe you a debt of gratitude. I want to thank you Bioware for letting us use your forums too. Most companies wouldn't allow this kind of boycotting protest on their own property. Whoever decided to let this happen needs their own parking space... or at least a Tim Horton's Coffee if they already have one.

I think, most telling about this movement, is we were so united that we went from a forum thread, and in less than seven days we were a global story. We've had members here interviewed on BBC, MSNBC, we've had stories on CNN. I've never been an activist, I've never really even stood up for that sort of thing, however I'm proud of my contribution, proud of everyone who came here, and I'm happy to say that, looking back on our actions, I have no regrets about my comments, my criticism, and my actions.

Where do I go from here? Well, I'm not done holding the line. I'll be here still, but you'll notice my stance, unless Bioware manages to come out and say completely opposite of what they've said today, will be more positive to the company, to buying new games, to supporting their business as they're going to be supporting the community. I plan to buy ALL of the Mass Effect DLCs simply because I love the story, and I'm sure that, with the community's input and if they don't cut corners, they'll put out something that will ensure Mass Effect becomes one of the defining games, if not THE defining game of this decade. I hope to see more from the Mass Effect universe in the future.

I'm also looking forward to upcoming Command & Conquer Generals 2. EA's Simcity (5), future releases for the Sims series, upcoming episodes and patches for Star Wars: The Old Republic, and countless other games, of which I can't even remember all of them at this point because EA is such a staple in my gaming life.

Did we win? Yes, I think we did. Much like the war with the reapers it's a bit bittersweet, but with a lot more colour on our ending. I'm disappointed we had to go to these lengths to get Bioware to hear and admit our concerns with their game.

I hope, in the future Bioware AND EA will both realize that the gaming community are customers, clients.. and we deserve to have your most professional product you can release. You wouldn't expect us to give you 9/10ths of our money, we expect you not to give us 9/10ths of your games.. and whatever you do, just be honest with us. If you advertise that a game doesn't have an A,B,C ending and in the end you have a total of three choices to make in the final dialogue, your company culture should be such that someone should be able to go "Uh.. what?" without fearing getting fired, or bad reviews..etc. Company culture will determine how good your games are, EA let them make their games, don't bring your fiscal year end into a narrative.

I'll end off by saying, congratulations, once again to everyone here. I realize not everyone thinks we've won yet, but I guarantee that EA/Bioware will not do anything, at this point, to jeopardize the precarious peace we've forged today. They have far more to lose than we do by not doing right by us.

I'll be around, commenting here and there, providing links and such, and if Bioware does something dumb, I'll probably rage like everyone else :)

We held the line... and I totally want a T-shirt that says that.
-Tim

I totally agree. While this is indeed a small victory for the cause it is by all means not over. It's not over until whatever they have planned is released, and meets the fans expectations

^This.

I for one am going to continue holding the line until there are
clear factual statements regarding ending dlc (which is not to say that i
don't see the comments made as a step in the right direction).
Need to get some sleep but I'll tie the line to my hand for sleep-holding :)

People need to realize, we have won a single battle in a war. This war is not over yet.
Yes, you may be happy we have won 1 battle, why not? But do not let this victory be a reason for you to lower your guard. Keep this up! Let us win other battles and that way, in the end, we will win the entire war.

Hold the Line people!
