How is it that a series like Gears of War, a TPS, can offer a better ending in the face of absolute destruction but Bioware can't pull it off with ME3 if the leaks are true?

The endings are real because the pc version of the game is already on the net . People have data mined its video files and found all the endings . The SR 2 disaster is un avoidable

Ironic from a company that used to pride itself on choices and listening to its fans.

the normandy is in the middle of a relay jump when it explodes

so it can not be saved . it just makes even more sick and disgusting

Please, no one say anything about the pirated N7 DDE for the PC that leaked on TPB and some other websites yesterday. It has a Russian first screen at the Origin installer (which then keeps in English) and it cannot be installed without a proper key. There is no way someone could install and file mine without the key. At least until there is no crack for it.

what.  i just extracted the files from the install files with winrar XD
anyway ive will be deleting this and wait for the game i bougth on origin

the bik files might not be the only endings.  ther might be ending more close up and persional that dosnt require pre render.

anyway only a few days now

Simple question because I simply cba to skim through 214 pages:

If your LI is on your ground team before the end and they survive and Shepard survives then won't you be stranded with your LI and be able to be together? Or is there some additional "ha ha, no real choice for you after all" bull**** going on here? Like Shepard dying anyway etc.

Shepard sends the two team members away before the finale and they get magically transported to the Normandy to get stranded somewhere.

It's not so much a "haha, no choice" as a *kick* to players.

Yeah just saw it on another thread. Fail kick-in-the-nuts is fail.

I agree in principle but getting too creative can and will lead to an 'uncanny valley' effect more often than not. Is there a perfect ending in theory that accomodates everyone? Probably, but good luck coming up with it. In my opinion, they had the following options:
-Happy mainstream ending. Safest route , yet totally invalidates the Reapers. Even with losses galore. Rage ensues.
-Dark brooding ending. Stays true to the ME spirit, vindicates Reaper buildup, annoys those more interested in interactions. Rage ensues.
-Multiple endings encompassing both of the above. Satisfies everyone, no immediate raging. Totally convolutes their universe for future use necessitating application of official canon. Rage ensues.

They just picked the way that was more true to the whole spirit of ME in the end. Rage was inevitable.

The irony is, that have their own cannon - in a novel series and comics for a example (please, correct me, if i am wrong).  But there is also a player story, our story - as developer kept reminding us about. It's not cannon, but it's ours. it can not damage the "official" cannon, cause it has nothing to do with it.  We are making our little ME-story.
Of course, you can not satisfy everyone with endings. But at least you can allow player to have a chance for relative (very relative) "happy mainstream ending" in his personal ME-world. Make it hard to achive, i'm fine with that, but please do not rob us of opportunity (it reminds me of DAO quest, regarding saving kid's life and soul from a demon; to really achive ultimate "happy ending" you'll have to do some work ).  Official cannon will not suffer because of it, thus
no threat to future of the franchise.

Very well said, rage is inevitable, and until I play the game, based on the supposed "official" information, I'm glad they stayed true to the universe's tone. But that might completely change once I actually finish the game, along with everyone else.

Agreed. No matter what, we're all talking out of our arses until we ourselves experience the buildup along with the finale. KOTOR 2 had a nice brooding ending too ,but the implementation was abysmal. Let us see what the full game brings.

I understand, I do. But believe me when I say that if they made a new game set in the future while streamlining all player input into an official canon( not 'cannon', lol, last time someone said 'headcannon' I had a mental image of an Atlas with a mounted turret), you'd be even more enraged that you played the whole trilogy for nothing.

you have a hangover and you are suggesting someone else get counciling?

If I had a hangover every night this week, you'd have a leg to stand on. Considering this is my first hangover in 2 weeks,
WRONG, sir! ;)

We'd all be lucky if this were even in the top 10 biggest disappointments in our lifetimes. Just cancel the pre-order like I did if it bothers you that much.

Don't get me wrong, if true this blows and I don't mind everyone venting here (I've done so myself), but don't go kill yourself over it or anything.

alcoholics lie , how can we believe its the first time in two weeks? Someone told me one time about some obscure bible verse that stated remove the log out of your own eye before you try and remove the splinters from anothers. I am not a believer , but there is wisdom in that.

Meh. Believe what you will. I don't know you from Adam, so I'm not losing any sleep over it. :) :shrugs:

My point stands - This isn't the end of the world, just a REALLY crappy ending to a beloved video game series.

Good lord, the guy mentions a hangover and all of a sudden he's an alcoholic?! That's a little extreme, don't you think? Especially since the fella was just trying to help a fellow forumite gain some perspective ie that all this stuff, if true (and okay it probably is), and however unpalatable it may be to some fans, is not the end of the world.

all i was saying is , if you are perfect you have the right to cast stones. If you are not.....

You're right, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. He wasn't throwing stones, though, he was trying to be helpful and potentially dissuade someone from rather drastically overreacting to the end of a videogame. Anyway, I certainly don't want to get into an argument with anyone here, am aware that emotions are running pretty high.

OT, I love sad endings, will probably be reasonably satisfied, but it sucks to hype up the 'seven endings' thing if they are all the same ... comes off as completely pointless. Such a shame. Am still hoping that there's stuff being missed by the data miners etc, although agree that's probably a vain hope.

So, they can lie about giving us a wide range of endings, making people very happy and very mad but they cannot lie about post game DLC?

Guess what, if the first lie is confirmed, then why not push them to make the second a lie as well? Give us the damn post game DLC with the proper ending for those who have been building emotional attachment with some of the team for many years now!

Brazilian base in Antarctica burst to flames a few days ago. It's a Navy base. Two officers lost their lives there. All the other remaining Navy people cried like babies while paying their last tribute to their falling comrades. That happens even with Marines, Seals, Chuck Norries and Rambones all around. So don't say asking for a proper ending is for "teenagers wishing sunshine and bunnies". I'm 48 next 14th and I wouldn't mind a happy ending but at least give us some proper closure to the emotional investment we made in the series!

Boa Rage, eu já tava cansado desse palhacinhos que provavelmente não tem nem 20 anos ainda nos chamando de "teenagers" só porque nós queríamos um final que valesse a pena jogar de novo.

Nice one! I'm 27, provider to me and my wife, spent MY OWN MONEY on a very expensive rig (gtx 590, 3 full hd monitors, 16 gb ram, intel core i7 2600k, and a big mothereffing case from cooler master, HAF-X Nvidia edition) JUST TO PLAY ME3 IN ITS FULL GLORY, and then I'm called "teenager" just because I'm capable of make emotional investment on some "space soap opera" characters.
If only one thing changed, and everything would be different: leave the Normandy and crew at Earth! Is that really so preposterous? Is that really "asking for rainbows and sunshine"? Is that really going away from what ME stated from the beggining about the reapers? Is that really "teenage ranting"?

What I wrote in portuguese over there was just a small part of what I wrote in english with a few differences.

Wow, another 50 pages basically overnight. I just checked in with the spoiler group. Xio did and NG+ run, 100% every star system, maxed out readiness and full Paragon... same endings. It appears the crew gets stranded no matter what.

There's also sound files of a couple romances up on file sharing sites now as well as in game video of the mShep and Cortez (I think is his name) sex scene which is, well, laughably handled. Shep still dances horribly.

dude i don't think me3 will even have graphics options that even justify that machine

witcher 2 would look super pretty on that though, you should go play it after me3 lets you down

A 'Reapers win' ending would fit the tone they seem to have gone for, so it not being implemented further strengthens the theory that they're planning something set in the future.

dude i'm telling you, they should get obsidian to do a mass effect game

obsidian made an excellent fallout game, the mass effect universe will really benefit from their excellent story-telling skills

So in a thread talking about how bad Mass Effect's ending is going to be, you come along and ask for Obsidian (the company that left kotor 2 without an ending at all) to make the next Mass Effect? Did I get that right?

LucasArts dicked that up by forcing Obsidian to rush the game out in time for Christmas, Obsidian is an incredible developer that keeps getting dicked over by publishers. If Obsidian had the resources Bioware had, they would be putting out much better games than the turds Bioware has been putting out lately.

Seriously, New Vegas and Alpha Protocol, despite their technical problems (attributable to lack of publisher support really), have incredible characters and dialogue, much better than Mass Effect 2 even (which I liked a lot) and a whole lot better than what I've seen of Mass Effect 3.

Serious question. What do you have against Obsidian ?

If it's bugs/KOTOR2' being half finished totally get that (not 100% their fault though , the planned ending would have made the downer of ME3 look like sunshine and flowers).

Obsidians FO was so much more involving than FO3 as an RPG it's worth giving them the benifit of the doubt , even if you approach with caution.

Why end the series on such an arbitrarily cruel note?

You might want to try The Witcher 2, if you haven't already. At least it is one of the best games ever, has the best graphics and choices do matter and make 16 different endings. Really 4 totally different with 4 variation each, but still, it is 4 toptally different endings.

And it requires a Nasa supercomputer to play with Uber settings on! I think yours might do it! =)
