Four options

They actually meant for this ending as final
They actually meant for this ending as a faux ending and you can buy the real ending later
They actually meant for this ending as a faux ending where they have the craziest scheme possible to reveal the real ending.
They actually meant for this ending as the real ending where you do get indoctrinated and it is up to later games to fix it.

I choose option 2. I think it was their idea all along. The current ending strikes me as something hacked together in a short space of time towards the end of the production cycle.

Given the other photo-shopped images and things that have appeared in this game (like Tali's face, or the stargazer background) it's probably just more scene-recycling. I know virtually nothing about what's involved in creating video games, but I imagine it's easier to use a framework that already exists and change a few details for a cinematic that only lasts a couple of minutes than it is to design something entirely new.

I have been in contact with a manager at Child's Play. First, he wanted to stress how grateful they were for our efforts here, and the huge impact it will have in helping the charity. However, he pointed out that several sources are incorrectly assuming a link between the charity and the petition, or outright support of the petition by the charity. This has been the source of some difficulty for them, and it has been requested that we wind this effort down. Again, I want to stress that the charity is not unhappy with our work, they are exceptionally pleased with what we have accomplished.

If it keeps going for another month that's thousands of more dollars for their charity. I don't understand why they would want to put the kibosh on it.

I don't think that's good enough. I want new endings free of plot holes, free of Starchildren, and free of logical contradictions. I want new endings that provide actual closure. I want new endings that allow my Shep to live and reunite with his friends and love interest. I want new endings where Shep fails. I want new endings that leave the mass relays intact. Above all, I want endings that make my choices throughout the trilogy matter.

Anything less is not good enough, and we need to let Bioware know that now, when they are still deciding what to do.

Another self-bump, in 100% agreement:

- We do not want the story of ME3 to come to an abrupt stop, at a Diabolus Ex Machina (the Starchild). We want events in the endgame to follow logically from previous events. We do not want to see the rules of the game changed in its final moments. To change the rules of a game is to change the game. We do not want to see an arbitrary----and radical----change in the Reapers' motivations, from what we know from ME1 and 2. We want to see our war assets actively contributing to the effort, having an impact in the course of events. We want the fate of our ship and crew to fit cogently in that course of events.

- We are not asking for further 'explanation' as to the appearance of the Starchild, the Mass Relays getting destroyed, and the Normandy getting stranded. The problem is not that we are failing to understand any of these. We are not asking BioWare to justify the ending as it stands. We do not think that this is possible. The protagonist of the endgame is utterly out of character, and he is in a state of complete disregard as to all that he has done since Eden Prime: We cannot recognize that person to be Shepard; he or she has to be an impostor. We ask that the final role of the Catalyst and the Crucible be rethought. Perhaps scrapped altogether.

- These are very general outlines, that make no 'positive' prescriptions; they rather lay out the necessary constraints under which BW ought to rewrite the end. We are not petitioning for any specific ending. We are petitioning only for an 'ending framework' that is logically sound.

- BioWare's job should be to make that framework rock-solid, and give us the chance to 'write our bit of the end' in terms of it. That's ALL we are asking.

Agreed. Explaining the "ending" they have now seems like a very condescending move. "Oh, you didn't get it, allow me to explain to you why it's brilliant." It shouldn't need to be explained in order to make sense within the context of the universe. If you have to explain it, it failed.

(This is the same argument I've been having the last two days with my fiance. He just finished the third game and thinks the ending is "perfect.")

Yeah, it is not like we were doing this for their support. It was just an outlet where we could give back to the community and help children.

Maybe it's publishers being angry with us, and giving them trouble when they want to acquire things for the children.

I gone vent some: they do get alot of their donations and material from game companies?

Not saying that this is the case but it was the first thing that sprung to my mind.

Just a thought here.

Does the affair between Sheppard and the ANN reporter parallel the relationship between Bioware and IGN a *little* to closely?

The charity will get grief if they are even thought of supporting the cause. It would appear as if they are supporting us in order to milk money out of us.

Obviously, that isn't true. But it's the perception of the charity's impartiality that is being questioned here. They can't take that risk.

Let's not forget that there are those that paint us as a "minority". For them to suggest that a charity is supporting us is far from a stretch of the imagination.

It doesn't matter whether it's a lie, it's just the way the world works.

Now you understand why I'm so cynical!

It's possible, I wouldn't put it past EA. And that they are having problems at all with people over this is just sad... Still, the charity was started to give a positive view too our cause aswell as helping the children. We don't want to spoil either of those two, so this might have been the right choice.

That's what I was thinking too. And besides them giving donations, I'm sure that they have some sort of deal too to get discounted products. As it seems that the charity move has won us extra attention, maybe "someone" has told them to dissociate from us if they want to keep all those benefits. In the long run it would hurt them beyond anything that we could donate, and I think that that maybe the cause behind this.

- I am... going Disney space wizard mediocre bs ending, deserves explanations. And there has to be according to what Mass Effect stands for  different endings. With Relays getting blown, with them not getting blown. Hence choices and consequences come into play

-Yes we are asking for specific ending. They mentioned thousands of variables come into play, this is the time they come into play, at the very end. Where all of them diverge into many, many different endings, from some really bad, shep dying crew dying, to some medium, to shep dying, some crew surviving, to everyone surviving, and living happily ever after.

Again no matter the ending cliche or not, what matters is the set up.

And no matter the set up or the explanation, there ha sto be endings where sheperd doesn't die... and in non of them does his crew simply dump him, leave him to his fate and run away from the battle before its over. That piece at the end, would never, and I cannot emphacise this enough... it would never happen. Your crew would never abandon you, and implying or actually making a cutscene where they do, is a complete slap on the face to everything we have been through.

Honestly, I'm fine with ending the Child's Play drive. Sure, it isn't our fault that people are painting Child's Play as a bad guy for "supporting" us. But the fact is, people are doing that, and it might hurt the charity. And we can't have that.

Because a charity needs to remain neutral, especially being as their founder is Penny Arcade, who runs PAX East... who has a lot of gaming companies who have booths at it.

Their founder doesn't like our movement and probably gritted his teeth the entire time because the community pretty much took his charity and used it as a rallying cry for the movement.

It's over though, and simply out of courtesy I'd suggest we not get too riled up over it and remember that, regardless of the opinions of the founders, we helped a lot of kids, succeeded in our goals, and most importantly, stayed civil and respectful during it all Image IPB

So what do we do now?

Already the threads on the forums are beginning to die down. There are fewer and fewer holding the line, and more just leaving bioware behind them in disgust, but if the movement goes silent, then we will lose because Bioware will correctly ascertain that there really isn't enough outcry to justify changes.

this is just getting sooooooooooo stupid

we donated out of good heart, some of us probably heard about child's play fot the first time

a charity is charity

and now I just get the feeling that mighty EA publisher just shut this thing down against us

if they consider us - paying customers - to be their enemies, then the Bioware is over

I posted earlier that I think this is what we need to be doing right now:

TSC_1 wrote...

Remember, people: now is the time to let Bioware know that we won't be satisfied with anything but new, real, satisfying endings. By this point, they must know that they need to do something. Given the tone of Dr. Muzyka's statement, it may be that they're considering releasing content that tries to explain away the plot holes of the current endings and that gives a little more information about what happens to the crew and the galaxy.

I don't think that's good enough. I want new endings free of plot holes, free of Starchildren, and free of logical contradictions. I want new endings that provide actual closure. So let them know in this thread. Let them know in the feedback thread. Let them know on Twitter. Let them know by e-mail (contact@bioware.com). Let them know by letter. And, if you haven't yet, vote in this poll.
