The end of the Child's Play charity drive is more bittersweet than the end of ME3.

I have gone from bewildered then sad then angry then confused and now now I feel insulted by bioware. The gall they have implying that we are just not smart enough to understand the endings. Please these endings were the same type of endings that have been thrown around for years in poorly written anime and bad sci-fi novels. I believe what that guy wrote saying that it was only the lead writer and producer writing the end with no peer review. I can also guarantee that they, the two who wrote the ending, are not nearly as good of a writing team as they believed. I took many creative writing classes in college and if I wrote a story with this many plot holes I would get an f or be made to re write it just to get a grade

Wait, what's wrong with the charity?

The guy who started it has decided to cap it at $80,000.  I see no problem with it, we didn't exactly plan on forcing him into free indentured media servitude for the rest of his life, he needs a break too, and the charity themselves is having trouble ensuring that they don't come across as endorsing us.

Read about the Charity backing out.

shame, but hey, as someone said earlier: we raised near enough 80k.
not only that, but bioware know this is an issue that needs addressing. looks like all thats left for us to do is wait.

Not saying we should leave the line, no way. But looks like we've done all we can: for now at least. Kudos to everyone on your efforts thus far :) we've all worked so hard to get this far. Now let's watch how this plays out.

As usual: I'l be here, holding the line

As long as we are here and we pour constructive feedback in thread
http://social.biowar...ex/10098213/182
Bioware will not just pretend nothing happens.

The damage to their image is done, no doubt about that.

But we shouldn't be naive - all of us should expect EA/Bioware biting back.

Curious thing is that their biting their own pockets - I mean us :)

After all publications, charity, Dr. Muzyka's statement, etc. they will not just backtrack saying nothing happened.

Hold the line. If not for yourselves, for your comrades. It's not that hard.

Am I right in understanding that pressure was applied by people to Chipin/Childsplay and so they had to stop because it was causing too much difficulties?

I have been in contact with a manager at Child's Play. First, he wanted to stress how grateful they were for our efforts here, and the huge impact it will have in helping the charity. However, he pointed out that several sources are incorrectly assuming a link between the charity and the petition, or outright support of the petition by the charity. This has been the source of some difficulty for them, and it has been requested that we wind this effort down. Again, I want to stress that the charity is not unhappy with our work, they are exceptionally pleased with what we have accomplished.

I love our world...

If it keeps going for another month that's thousands of more dollars for their charity. I don't understand why they would want to put the kibosh on it.

Talk about screwed up. Wow I guess donating to charity is now a bad thing...

OK, points;

It has been two weeks since the game came out. As noted before people can't be on here 24/7 for that length of time without going insane*. They need 'time off' to relax, recharge, live their lives and quite probably get some toilet roll.

People are also not posting simply because there is, at this point, nothing they feel like saying that hasn't or isn't already being said. You'll notice that when there has been a development people are jumping on here very quickly. So while they may not be posting they are clearly keeping an eye on things. (It helps, btw, to bookmark the thread).

As to the charity - Charities NEED to be seen as being impartial for a lot of reasons. The request to close down the Child's play charity drive is a perfectly reasonable one under the circumstances. Bare in mind that the increasing interest from the large news groups is a double edged sword for Child's play, especially since it *could* be seen as supporting us - which it certainly wasn't nor was it intended to be used that way. They will still get the money, we can still sit back and be very, very proud of managing to raise such a huge amount of money in a very short space of time - $80,000 in less than two weeks is VERY impressive by anyone's standards, and more so when you consider that this wasn't an organized charity drive but something a group of total strangers just decided to do on the spur of the moment.

If there were points to the charity it was to show that we are clearly not 'self-entitled whiners', and that something good could be made from the situation regardless of the outcome. I think we've shown that both are true by the amount raised in such a short time.

A conflict on interest, the charity did not want to be seen having a bias supporting the Retake movement.

The guy who started it said himself HE was ending it.  The Charity was more than happy to take our money haha.  They did express concern about us not portraying them as endorsing us which is a perfectly acceptable concern.  Don't get worked up over it.. He's been answering emails all week, I think he said there were THOUSANDS along with media requests.. that takes its toll on a professional media relations staff, much less an unpaid community member who just started it this week.

Back and holding the line. 50 pages since my last checkin, Great job guys, I love seeing the effort still moving at a nice clip. I expected it to drop off sooo much more than this with the recent statement but I feel like the fact that its only decreased a little as evidence that everyone here is very dedicated to communicating with Bioware how much we love their game...and how much we think they damaged it, and how willing we are to remain committed, paying, ridiculously loyal fans if they would prove to us they can maintain their previous 2.9 game standard of awesome.

3.0 game standard of awesome people! That's the goal.

I'm just a solo Texan Soldier. About to take my robo-dog out for a patrol of the line, but before I do, someone do a quick recap of some things for me, if possible?

1) *snip*  Found a forum post explaining the situation on my own.

2) Where is everyone getting these T-shirts, and maybe we could make a thread just for Tshirt designs and such? It'd be quickly lost in the forums but could easily be included in our regular "These are links you should know" posts and would help those of us who are always forgetting the page numbers of things, and also easily edited to keep new designs in one place. Thinking of contributing to that, BTW...gotta have time!

Will likely resume my "reclaim my shepherd" ME1 replay posts via twitter @forynia after the robo-dog's joints have been calibrated with a good walk.

That's obscene. Of course it's their right and it's not good for a charity to look like it's taking sides, even if they were obviously completely impartial all the way through. Hell, they didn't even comment, just took the money.

But for people to go out of their way to assume that and use it to their advantage is just...despicable.

The fact that a charity has had to cave and stop accepting money under the name of a movement because other people are lambasting said movement and guilt by association is more than it is worth...well, those people who criticise us causing BW to take action really need to take a step back and realise just what their verbal tirades have accompished.

Well done, gaming press; you snide, sycophantic vermin, well done indeed.

Seems Chris got sick of people analysing every move he made.

http://social.biowar.../index/10084349

Ok, this thread has gone on long enough.

We are open to valid criticism, but there are far too many lies and outright falsehoods here such as the ridiculous accusation that we buy reviews. That is enough BioWare/EA abuse. The thread is now closed.

LOCKDOWN!
