Well, I wouldn't say we "won" until they have actually released something and we see what it is...

You could say that they are retired pirates....who don't do anything

I know quoting oneself is bad form...

but I just watched this and I had images of everyone around a big table, shepard and garrus, a little drunk, drinks in the air and leading the singing with Wrex, Grunt, Kaidan/Ashley, Tali and everyone else joining in. Earned a well deserved rest I think, and the right to eat, drink and be merry.

Hope nobody is getting their hopes up. Bioware said they will "clarify" the endings. Not add to the possible ways it could end. Offering new ending would force them to admit they screwed up and the endings weren't good, but there's too much hubris there for that to happen. Instead they will try to plug plot holes they hadn't recognized until fans pointed them out.

That posting making the rounds about how the ending was written by casey and mac without peer review, clearly because they didn't want to hear negative feedback or thought the "regular" writers wouldn't appreciate casey and mac's genius, seems pretty clear that's exactly what happened.

We haven't won yet but we are making progress!

Since an official announcement won't happen till April, and even after that we have to wait for said potential changes to arrive. Then we can say we have won. Though I personally will wait till I've experienced the changes before I consider it a win or not. If they add changes or DLC or new endings... whatever their "solution" is, if they feed us more of what we have already, it won't be a win to me and will be a rallying point to continue the fight.

I am naturally pessimistic so I have to take the wait and see approach myself.

That posting was already said to be false, so don't pin your entire argument on it.  In fact I'd refrain from using it. Stuff like that got the PR thread shut down.  If it were true it'd be one thing, but it was proven false last night Image IPB

We won.  If we'd lost they wouldn't have started housecleaning the threads.  They'd still be on the defensive hoping not to drive us all to a massive riot.

Well, when when I clarify butter, I take the whole thing as a lump, stick it in a melting pot, stir it round until it is completely seethrough with no imperfections. The finished product is something quite different to the base material....

Absolutely not , as i said , it's just the beginning , we have to continue our feedbacks about the ending , and holding the line together , until we have some good news about the ending dlc/patch (april).

So I was just thinking.

There have been a lot of important questions raised during the last couple of weeks about the relationship of game developers to game consumers, the artistic aspect of video games as art, how criticism should be presented, and whether or not the consumer should have an influence on the artist's work.

I'd like to make a couple of points:

Art is not necessarily whatever the artist wants it to be. Art that is inscrutable, oblique, or that otherwise requires additional significant explanation, is poor art. If the audience is, even after much consideration, left saying, "Huh? That doesn't make any sense." then the artist has failed. Good art is art whose meaning and symbolism is either readily apparent, or whose meaning and symbolism is apparent on the face and also deep enough to facilitate further introspection by the beholder. In the case of the Mass Effect trilogy, BioWare does a masterful job with their art: we get to explore deep and thought-provoking ideas bearing classic and modern cultural relevance - freedom, free will, what it means to be alive, whether a machine can have a soul, tolerance, unity, diversity, racism, sexuality, bigotry, and hope are all addressed in one way or another throughout the trilogy in brilliant ways.

Criticism of art also needs to be put a certain way. There are a lot of calls for constructive criticism, both by fans and by BioWare. Constructive criticism by its nature blunts the impact of the criticism by phrasing it in the least offensive way possible. The problem with constructive criticism is that sometimes there's no constructive way to say, "This part here was bad. The reasons are X, Y, and Z, and you need to do it over again." Granted, these days constructive criticism is synonymous with asking people not to spew obscenities while giving criticism, and considering how some gamers are, I agree with BioWare - give them "constructive" criticism.

Still, between you and me, BioWare, the ending was bad. Plot holes, confusion, philosophical themes discarded, and player decisions throughout the trilogy made no difference. You need to do it over again.

Note that I say this and still respect BioWare. I'm not talking down to them, and I'm not insulting them. I'm being straightforward with them, the way adults are.

And should the consumers have an influence over the artist's artistic integrity? Yes. If the art is being sold, it's a commodity. If the consumers don't like it, then the artist, if she wants to stay in business, needs to make some kind of change that the consumers do want.

I fully believe in the artistic ability of the entire development team. They're amazing. ME3's ending is an outlier, an oddity, a single mistake in what is otherwise a masterpiece. They can fix it, and I hope they do.

LOL... I could see it... especailly in the "For the Lulz"  because they has to be one  Mass Defeact   type of ending.

I was thinking this song... is rather fitting..

"There's so many wars we fought
There's so many things we're not
But with what we're have
I promise you that
We're marchin on "

*facepalms laughing*.  I forgot that was even a quote.  I'm waiting on the story of the guy riding the bus who's told by the bus driver to stay behind the line, to which the guy will respond by hugging the bus driver and yelling "Hold the line!" as he gets thrown off. Image IPB
