Read stanley woo's post.

Actually...he's right. Woo is right.  Despite our intentions, the media and members of the public have bent and twisted this charity thing into something it was not.

Like it or not, we WERE having a negative impact on the charity.  What happens if people who do not agree with us decide they will never donate to Childs Play because they think it is associated with us?

Thats why.  We had the best of intentions.  But this is one of those things.  It happens.  Stanley was right there.

Counter point: Facebook was used to plan those riots last year in the UK, which ended up with hundreds of stores robbed, insane amounts of money stolen and a fair number of people either homeless or temporarily hospitalized. Does anyone seem to care about it being used to this end? No, they don't because its true purpose is not as profound. While I accept that people are against the movement giving money to children who clearly could do with the money more than we could, I don't accept that the reasons for it are so common. This kind of thing happens pretty much everywhere in the world, in one form or another. I find it rather unusual that despite all the things that happen which we allow, we deny this for the fact that it's immoral. I fail to see how this symbiotic system is a bad thing in this scenario. One side is recieving money for a good cause, while the other is proving that they can and should be treated seriously. Both sides gain something, and no side really loses anything in this. I could understand if the money was ill-gotten, but this isn't. It's people so enraged about the ending of Biowares game that they are putting all the money they intended to spend on future Bioware products and giving it to someone who can make someone else happy with it.

Yes, this has mixed messages, but frankly, anyone who is thinking of giving money to help hospitalized children IS NOT to immediately think "Wait, this charity got money from a group of people who did something on the internet, I think I'd better put my money elsewhere", are they?

Summary: I understand them stopping more money being added, but the reasons behind it seem rather unusual, seeing at this happens everywhere with little to no similar reaction. I'm not saying we carry on yelling about it, but I just feel that something is a little unusual about this.

This.

This thread isn't about the charity; there is a whole thread for that, if you wanna talk about it. Here, we talk about the ending, so...let's move on, awesome people

I can't speak for everyone, but, i've donated without expecting that we could get something from this, and i knew the amout of money i've donated wouldn't really make a difference for the cause.
Now after donating more than i should, i hear them saying something like that?!
It hurts.......really.

Don't blame Bioware for it. They rightly defended the charity, since SOME people were attempting to use the charity for their own personal gain.  End of story.

As for any of you who are reading this that DID ask for your money back, there is a special place in hell with your name on it. How dare you take money from sick children because your selfish attempts didn't result in what you were hoping for.

Personal gain? What does it matter if they donate money for kids? Charity should't care about PR other then people knowing what they are about and what they do.  But we did good job so doesn't matter at this point.

That was the problem. People were thinking the charity was to fund new endings for ME3, and were not reading the fine print. This had apparently become somewhat of an issue, as people were asking how much was needed to fund the new endings and whatnot. As people were finding out AFTER they had donated, they demanded their donation back, having learned the truth.

Regardless of misguided thoughts or interpretations, any reason to ask for money back from a charity, never mind a childrens charity, is disgusting.

Charities have to worry about PR too. If the larger public began viewing them as a shield for the Retake movement, people would interpret that as using sick children as a tool to our own ends. I do not blame them for asking the donation drive be put to an end.

Here's something worth a read from Shamus Young from The Escapist.

I totally agree... especially his ending:

" If your point is, "Life sucks, nothing makes sense, and you'll never know what happened" then you had better brace yourself for some push-back, because people know this already. They experience it every day in real life, and they probably aren't looking for more of the same in your entertainment product."

As for  Child Play's its regretable that they to  stop accepting donations but and it shame that some in the gaming media...

Who gave you that idea? Charity is still there, just chipin counter was brought down. We may still propose the idea of giving just because it's a good cause, and no bragging about some counter this time.

I don't recall being a troll, or starting an argument. I posted the truth, that people were demanding refunds from Chiild's Play who donated through your movement. And I was angry, still am, but apologize if my tone was inappropriate. However, as someone who spent a large chunk of her childhood in a hospital with no distractions, I am very supportive and protective of the only charity that fulfills this need.

Having it receive negative publicity because of people clamouring for a new ending to a video game renraged me in a way I can't even properly express.

I know this has been posted more than once already, but sometimes people are typing and posts get by without our notice -

Guys, we really don't need to discuss the charity any longer. We know where we stand and there's nothing more that needs to be said. If you really want to talk further, there's an appropriate thread for that.

Andy Chalk of The Escapist just (finally) replied to a message I sent him a week ago about RetakeME3. Apparently, he's still playing through the game, but he wants me to drop him a reminder about the message so once he finishes the game, we can talk clearly about all this. I'm hopeful that we can finally clear the air, have everything out in the open without any lies, and discuss what we (the movement AND BioWare) can do to iron this out so everyone wins - because that is still an option.

Also, it looks like I won't completely have to try to ally The Escapist with us on my own any longer. Shamus Young has weighed in and he's sympathetic: www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/experienced-points/9506-Mass-Effect-3-Ending-Controversy

I'm sorry but no the high lighted part's need to be changed to some of you not a lot or a bunch as that is completely wrong.

Most of us knew it was a donation that would lead to nothing happening for us in return if people on here would stop makeing guesses as to what others want or are doing and actual read and understand one another we would avoid a lot of issues.

Understand, we're not against you putting your thoughts out, but really, this kind of argument will only cause more trouble than it's worth in this thread. If you want to talk about it, there's already a topic on it, but going in-depth here and stirring up trouble will not in any way improve the situation.

Only just realized this myself after posting, I forgot which thread this was. Should I remove my previous post?

Returning to topic: What's the latest from the frontline? Last I heard, IGN appeared to be our side now... pardon my skepticism.
