may have already seen this, it seems at least some folks at ign allege they didn't like the end...perhaps its them shamming to make them seem more legit, but

The irksome moments are those when a character pops in for one mission just to say "Hey! Remember me?" before becoming an obscure reference. The unforgivable moments are those that take place during the final hour of the game. I've made it clear around the office that I'm utterly disappointed with the ending of this series.

None of the final moments feel like they have any weight to them. They simply feel incorrect, and they make me want to tell my television "This is not what my Shepard would have done." Never did I expect the franchise that I've praised and cherished since the first video documentary would end with what amounts to "Out of the three doors he picked door number two. Tell him what he's won."

I guess I won't be having that drink with Jacob after all.And what was that great reward? A cutscene featuring a bunch of characters I've never seen before, and a final moment where I see some familiar faces stranded in a jungle. At first I thought I made the wrong choice, but after later trying the alternates I discovered each was nearly identical with only slight variations. I wanted to save the galaxy, not watch someone die before I could even make the final choice, and then have that final choice result in utterly dooming my friends. I guess I won't be having that drink with Jacob after all.

I had the maximum Galactic Rating possible. I had 100% preparedness. And I got a confusing and weird cutscene for it.

I wanted to love everything about Mass Effect 3. Actually if you take away the ending and a few buggy moments the game is still phenomenal. But instead of ending on something noteworthy, all this final moment did is make me think of how expertly crafted a similar ending was in Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.

You know something its a sad day when you can say that Modern Warfare has written a better ending than Bioware. Personally the ending to ME3 has ruined any repalyability of any of the serise and ultimatlely thats how I judge a game. "Do I want to play again?" "NO"Image IPB

I want to play it again. But I can't
Made it through ME1 but now I'm stuck in the middle of ME2 and I can't motivate myself to even restart it. I can't even play BF3 cause I'm so mad at EA. Everytime Origin starts...AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH...what have they done

i know how you feel its took me 4 days to do 1 quest in skyrim

I just realised, like commander Shepard, the games ending has managed to unite the usually disparate and warring tribes of the xbox, playstation, and PC to face a common enemy, whatever our differences we have had the true foe revealed to us...

I'm surprised pharmaceutical companies haven't jumped out in support for Mass Effect 3's ending after the shocking increase in sales of anti-depressants lately..

After reading this I'm amazed how, after all this time and analysis of why the ME3 ending sucks, there's still new ways to discuss how and why it sucks. This time a more literary exposition of how they botched something as basic as simple narrative structure right at the end.

That's because there are so many ways the ending sucks :D

I was really into Skyrim when it first came out, but the PS3 frame rate issues totally destroyed my wanting to play it, I now have it for xbox (got a full refund for the PS3 one) and I just can't get back into it at the level I did when I played it the first time, I get bored of it so fast now. Anyway sorry for going off topic.

As for replaying ME3 well I can barely look at my PS3 without wishing I could somehow forget the whole ME3 ending, I want to desperately play ME3 or heck even play ME1 or 2 but I just can't do it. Seriously whats the point? as it stands now my choices aren't important and that was one of the main reason I loved Mass Effect so much.

While for the moment the replayablity is ruined IF bioware bring out a new ending that works I will be more than willing to play mass effect again and again. My original plan was to finish ME3 with my oringinal character and then go back and play them all back to back with a whole new character. But now...my cynical side keeps telling me "you will have to sell them all. It will never be fixed". I'm hoping that my blind optimism will yield results but still a horribly messy situation

Hey you know I actually made a blog post a while back saying that PC, X-Box and PS3 owners should stop fighting each other and fight who we should be fighting the developers.

You can see it here if you want.

just a shame that such a terrible event unified us. Would have been nicer if we where able to compare our own endings and say "What happened to so-and-so inyour game" that would have made the endings good unforgettable rather than the time I got 2 ribs cracked unforgettable. Still push through the pain and maybe it can still be "Good" unforgettable

Hello comrades. I missed yesterday and this AM. Has anything of any note happened? The last thing I was a aware of was the charity drive having to be ceased due to some people not being able to comprehend the idea that Child's Play was actually impartial in all of this, and thus making their position difficult.

Give it time until april (PAX maybe?)....

I certainly try to, my optimism is too big right now.... Of course i might be disappointed a second time, but i cant give up on those games i loved for so long now yet. Also, will anybody buy those games now?
It seems to me that message of the endings has gone far by now. Maybe more that Bioware does notice right now.

There are people asking me about the endings at least, and i can only suggest them to wait until april before buying it.

I doubt it, BW can be slow, but doing this would be business suicide, it wouldnt change a thing to our standpoint, and if they havent realised it by now, they sure will if they announced something like that on PAX, and even the forums are a bit more calm as of now, waiting for PAX, we would come back with a vengeance.

Hold the line.

Yeah I agree, but on the bright side obviously deep down we all realise that fighting amongst ourselves is actually silly and we realised this was so much more important than who plays on what.

Hey I had an idea for a happy
ending I wrote it down in about ten minutes,it's a little basic but let
me know what you think of it.

Please understand this only a rough
draft,a basic outline of how I think a happy ending could be added to
Mass Effect 3from a point that exists in the game. It would also be
hard to get at since the only way to get it would be if you had united
all the races, gotten Joker and EDI together, and had a high paragon
score.

Okay the starting point would be where the star child
tells Shepard that organics and machines will always kill each other at
this point a paragon quick time action would appear if the player uses
it a whole new dialog piece would appear. Shepard would call the
starchild on the fact that not only are machines and organics working
together but they are even falling in love. The Starchild would say
that it would not last but he would be shaken he would then tell Shepard
about the three choices. At this point you could choose to go along
with him or you could choose to start asking more questions. If you
choose to ask more questions the Starchild will give you angry circular
answer and keep leading you back to the three choices he wants you to
make but from his non answers Shepard would start to work things out for
himself and find the answers to the following questions the fate of the
galaxy rests on

Why were the Prophens unable to finish the device?
From
the the Starchild's Non answers Shepard works out that they had a lot
of old grudges and were never able to fully come together.

Why were the people today able to finish it so quickly?
All
the races came together but it was more then that since each races has
their own way of looking at things each races was able to solve some of
the problems and get it done in record time. This links in with the way
Hacket told you after you recuited each groups of people that they were
helping in some surprising way.

Why are the Reapers able to wage war on the galaxy every 50,000 years and why do they stick to that cycle?

Because
they all think the same, they all follow harbieger no matter what and
none of them are about to really think for themselves creatively. This
makes them hard to beat since they are always working together but
Shepard wonders if only having one viewpoint could be a weakness.

Why
would a weapon designed to kill Reapers 50,000 years ago still
work, most races would have changed so much in that time that the weapon
would have no effect?

The reapers can not create for themselves.
They can think a bit but they do not have creative thought. That is the
real reason they return every 50,000 years. They have to reap what
organics create in order to grow. It is also the reason they fear
organics, they fear that at some point organics will become more powerful
then they are. This is what the collectors were up to in ME2,they
were trying to create a prototype for the next generation of Reapers.

What is the Cytalist and why have the Reapers gone out of their way to get Shepard who is just one man since this all started?

The
biggest threat to the Reapers is that one of the times when they came
back to get new tech and new organic matter so they could grow there
would be someone there who would unite the galaxy. The propheans lacked
this one special person who could make them see beyond their petty
problems and think of bigger issues. The fact is the cytalist is not a
device it is a person,Shepard now understands that it is him. The one
person who had no stakes in any of the problems so he could look at them
from the outside and fix them he is the one person who could get the
whole galaxy working together. United but enslaved so that they would
still all bring their view points and skills to the war with the
Reapers.

If freedom and working together is the key to defeating
the Reapers why would the Propheans leave behind a giant weapon that
would wipe that that out?

They wouldn't the Star Child must be trying to trick Shepard.

But then why would the Star child do that and how has he been on the Citidal all this time?

He
has not. Shepard figures out that the Star Child is just a projection
from Harbienger trying to keep him from the truth and trying to get to
use the weapon in a way that if the Reapers lose everyone else will go
with them.

Shepard figures it out. If some of the settings on
the Crucibel are reversed it will send something to the Mass Replays
instead of taking energy from them or taking away free will by forcing
organics to merge with machines. At this point the Star child tells
Shepard that if he does this he could wipe out all life on earth. So the
player can choose to do it or go with the three options the Star Child
gave Shepard.

If Shepard goes with the new option a signal is
sent to every Mass Relay in the galaxy at the same time. What does the
signal do? It effects the reapers in such a way that they are not
killed but none of the reapers now speak the same langue and since
Harbianger is the only one with anything close to creative thought he is
the only one who can over come this.

At this point the Star
Child screams and goes away and Harbengier bursts in and starts trying
to undo what Shepard did. Shepard grabs a piece that is needed to send a
signal undoing what he did and runs. At this point the player has to
run from the head reaper dodging his attacks. In the end Shepard ends
up walking on the outside of the citiadel dodging attacks. He tells the
fleet that the fate of the galaxy rests on destroying this reaper. The
inter united fleets of the galaxy begin attack him but his armor is too
thick and he is not opening his gun. Shepard has to get him to do
this. Now while the player dodges attack Renegade quick action icons
pop up each time the player presses one of these Shepard taunts the
reaper in the end he loses his temper and opens his gun to shoot Shepard
and the fleet locks on. At this point the player is given another
choice. Joker wants to bring in the Normandy to pick up Shepard and get
him out of the blast. If the player choices no Shepard dies in the
blast. If the player choices yes and his EMS is too low the Normandy
can't make it and both the Normandy and Shepard are destroyed with the
Reaper. If the player choices yes and has a high enough EMS the
Normandy crew work together and push the ship harder then it has ever
gone before and pick Shepard up a split second before the blast. The
Normandy is cought in the massive shock wave and goes spinning out of
control and the scene fades out.

When the scene fades back in the
Normandy has crashed on earth Shepard makes sure everyone is alright.
He then gets a call from Hacket who tells him that the fleet is still
cleaning up the last of the Reapers on earth but since they can not talk
to each other any more each Reaper can be taken out one at a time and
they are getting reports that the same thing is happening all over the
galaxy. Shepard makes a thankful speech to his crew and tell them how
much he and the galaxy owes them and they have finally broken the cycle
and that they have to make sure the world they build is better then the
one that came before because too many people died making this new world.
Q a montage of every member of your team that died in some happier
time. Mordin singing that sort of thing and fade out.
Five year latter.

We see that

Now if Shepard lived and his crew did too we see him leaving a cousil
meeting(he is the cousil member from earth now look after the better
world he helped create)A reporter says that it has been five years since
the end of the Reaper war and billions died does Shepard ever have
trouble going on? If Shepard didn't have a LI that lived he says that
yes it is and go in to a sad but hopeful speech about remembering the
fallen and making a better Galaxy. If Shepard did have LI that lived he
see her or him walking up with a child or two and he half smiles and
say that yes it is but then you just have to remember what you have to
live for and why those people gave their lives. Shepard then joins his
family and we then cut to a silent scene of the all the team mates from
all three games with Shepard on earth we see what they have been doing
who has hooked up with who and Shepard dedicates the wreck of the
Normandy as a historic land mark and the crowd then cheers the whole
team and as we fade out we see earth being rebuilt but so we don't
forget the costs we also see that there are a lot of tombstones of
people who died when the reapers attacked. Roll credits

Now if Shepard died and his crew lived I see this happening.
the races are united in a way they never were before, the counsil is not
just made up of three older races controlling everything every race
that helped fight the Reapers now has a voice in it and races that
were fighting each other are now working together.  Tali is seen
walking around with out her suit,Garus is now in charge of the
military, and now this is where things change based on a choice the
player makes.  There is a statue of Shepard and Liara is talking about
now if she was not Shepard's LI she is telling about group of school
children about Shepard,if she was Shepard's LI she is talking a child
about it and in the end she says "your father was a hero" roll
credits.  that ending shows Shepard paying a price but it shows that
there was a reason and that there is hope and that he died making the
galaxy a better place and maybe even saving his family.
