Imagine buying a new refrigerator that leaks all over the floor the first time you use the filtered water dispenser. You call the company and speak to a customer rep:
YOU: My new refrigerator is leaking all over the floor.
REP: Hmmm... Are you sure it's leaking all over the floor? [giggles]
YOU: Well... yes, of course I'm sure. There's water all over the place, and it's coming from the refrigerator.
REP: Hmmm... Are you sure it's coming from the refrigerator? [sniggers]
YOU: OF COURSE I'M SURE!
REP: Well, you might just want to consider leaving that water on the floor until April.
YOU: What???
REP: Well, let me just say that all of us here are leaving our water on the floor until April.
YOU: I don't understand... I can't leave water on the floor for weeks! That's crazy! This needs to be fixed!
REP: That's really all I can say right now. Goodbye.
I can beat that with a real world example. This really happened.
Years ago, when I was young and full of joy* I got dragged out while my Mother went shopping for a wardrobe. She looked around, found one she liked and could afford and talked to the sales rep. The conversation went something like this;
Rep; So, we can deliver the wardrobe next week, and the doors three or four weeks later.
*Long pause*
Mother; Sorry, what?
Rep; We'll have the wardrobe to you next week and the doors three weeks later.
*Another long pause*
Mother; You are selling the wardrobes, but not the doors?
Rep; No, we're selling both we just don't have the doors in stock right now.
*More silence*
Mother; What use is a wardrobe without doors? Why can't I just buy the display model over there, it has the doors on?
Rep; Well, yes but its the display model. *weak laughter* We wouldn't sell many units if the display model didn't have doors on it would we? *laughter tails off*
Mother; And, out of interest, how many people have bought those wardrobes when you can't deliver the doors for three weeks?
Rep; Errm *mutters* none.
Mother; One less, bye....
(*And for the record I am now old and cynical. Haven't quite got around to waving my cane at kids and shouting at them...but give me time...

Interesting quote from this (pre-release) interview with Mac Walters:
"...between Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, one of the
things I looked at was -- I don't know if I'd call it the writing, but the
cinematic style and delivery of Uncharted 2 really drew my eye. I look
at that and say, 'Wow, those are some very compelling people.' I'm happy
to sit there and watch what's going on in that scene -- I don't even need
interactivity in that scene because it's so well done." - Mac Walters (emphasis mine)
Yeah, who needs silly ol' interactivity in an interactive game? And there you have it.
Its like all the prelease quotes from the devs foreshadow everything...Casey implying that the entire ME3 storyline, WAS your Sheps "ending" whilst slowly taking away the dialog options. After that point (the London scene??) who cares...let's come up with whatever we want now that player agency is wrapped up!
...hey, lets go set it up for our next franchise!
I want to go back in time and shake them!!!
This is incredibly damning.
Not surprising, in retrospect. But damning nonetheless.

I agree with you about the hostility; that doesn't get us anywhere, and has already cost us more than we might want to admit. But IF there was a plan for a second-wave "here's what really happened" stunt, my mind will be officially blown if no one at BioWare realized that leading players to believe this was the one-and-only ending was going to cause explosive and damaging blowback.

John385 - Thanks for reading. Yes, the plan is to write a new chapter that addresses the fan feedback and how BioWare is responding. It would be a free update. The Portal story was updated with a new chapter on the DLC for free.
EDIT: Nevermind. He's talking about the app. Damn.

bioware releases ME3 with an ending like the one we have i feel was DILIBIRATE, they knew PAX was coming up and they wanted the fans to ensure they played the game fully.
what bioware DID NOT expect was the fans to finish the game so fast...i mean some people finished the game in UNDER 24 hours and since then the "retake Mass Effect" started off.
(...a lot of interesting stuff)
Very well written. As I wrote earlier today, although I am irritated by BioWare right now, there is still hope that the theory you have summed up so well is actually how things will turn out in the end.
Why?
Because I can't believe that the same company that made the fabulous ME trilogy screws things up that badly in the last 10 minutes.
But you never know, economic interestest may had taken precedence (which now may be called "artistic integrity") over rationality and efforts to bring the trilogy to a satisfying end.

This, so much this!
BioWare should read this...
The only thing I disagree with in that review is that the bad ending alone will be good. I expect to see a variety of endings, depending on your previous actions. So, pure happy ending should be also included among all others.

most of them seem to have very convenient plans till all of this blows over.
can't say i blame them. i do actually feel like a broken record at the moment.

Does anyone know if that would make them even more focused on making more money off DLC content? It stands to reason it might. And if so, it would make sense for them to make us Retake folks happy so we actually buy the stupid DLC.
