This deserves a BUMP.

Just read through this article, and it was a fantastic read. Thanks for the bump.

I'm keeping this article location handy just in case I run across anyone who spouts off the words 'artistic integrity'. That last part of the article was golden.B)

If BW release a new/alternative ending on paid DLC will I buy it... Damm right I will, I'll hate myself and I will be muttering and chuntering all the way through the download but I will get it and I will get a satisfactoy ending and then I will play all the way through with another character and then I'll do a new character for ME1 and do it again.

And all the way through I will hate myself for PAYING more to get an ending. But I'll still get it DAMMIT

Funnily enough, the fact that I'm not playing the MP or SP has been a godsend (however unwanted it may be). I'm able to do all of my homework without trouble because I have nothing else to do in terms of video games.

That's how most of us feel, I suppose. And BioWare still doesn't get it, despite this obvious opportunity...

What's
funny is that all of you guys say you are criticizing Bioware and IGN
in a 'civilized manner', but then you turn around and threaten to leave
IGN, stop buying Bioware games, etc etc. I can't see how that is
civilized. That's a child's reaction.

This has been a fairly common argument against us from what I've seen and it just makes no sense at all. Seriously how does behaving like a good consumer make us children? Colin Moriarty insults us and berates us directly so we say "Well if you're going to be an ass we can get our gaming media somewhere else" and if Bioware or any one else makes a game with an ending we dislike/bad game in general we don't have to purchase their products any more. This is how the free market works, how in the world is that a child's actions?

What Mass Effect 3 did was raise the tension and stakes to their highest point…and then suddenly deflate the whole thing.

The words nail and head comes to mind.

it might help them along then as a lot of the work would have been done

I don't believe for a moment that they thought the present 'ending' was 'well crafted'.

They thought they could get away with that truncated mess, but they have been proven wrong. That's a miscalculation of mind-numbing grossness, in that this is an entirely story-driven series with a very rich 'lore' in the background.

This might indeed be an opportunity for them to go back and properly realize whatever original plan they had.

ME1 had awful gameplay, lots of canned environments (...actually it does make sense that those space colonists would be using 'prefabricated' buildings; but still...) and an inventory system that got ridiculously cluttered 2 hours into the game; but it took its story very, very seriously. ME2 had a much more limited scope, but it did not give up on the story and the lore; and the Collectors were very 'interesting' enemies.

In ME3, the main arc of the story is almost a liability; a necessary evil that needs to be there, so that 'awesome things and emotional moments' can glide freely over it. The reapers are here, they're unstoppable, and they are killing millions----fine. But it looks like no one in the universe thinks twice about where they come from, what strategy they possibly use, what might be their weaknesses; or, how the Crucible could work, after all, and so on. All we know is that reapers are huge, we're overpowered, and the best minds of the galaxy are working on a 'something' without the least clue as to how it works.

It's no wonder that things that people like most about ME3----the Genophage, and the Geth-Quarian arcs----are rooted deeply in that rich tapestry that was the story of ME1.

I guess it's no wonder, that we got the Prothean as an 'unessential' DLC, and they didn't even bother to finish the story.

I'll just take a moment to get all emotional and cheesy. I just want to say that no matter what happens with Mass Effect 3 I am honored to have stood in the line with you all big shout out to everyone involved. Thanks for all your support.

I'll go back to quietly simmering in the corner now.

That argument, that we are childish is so incredibly stupid I have a seriously hard time reacting in a way that doesn't involve a lot of laughter...

Ok, to make things clear in case any of us encounter this again.

Games cost money. I spend my money on games I want, for me. MY MONEY. I choose how to spend it.

Example:

I like Coca Cola. I do not like Pepsi. I will not buy Pepsi even if it's the only version of cola available, because I don't like it. I will buy water instead. I don't hate Pepsi (the company). I don't like their product. SO I won't buy it. It's called using your brain. Freedom of choice. Etc. Not being childish.

Bioware is not the only gaming company in the world. IGN not the only gaming site. If I don't like them (for WHATEVER reason) I don't OWE them anything. I'll take my business elsewhere. Since we live in a mostly capitalist/free market/competitive market world (as opposed to say, a communist regime where choice just doesn't exist) I can do that. Thank God.

Once more, with feeling.

MY MONEY, MY CHOICE.
