As an interesting side-note, some of you may remember how me and one other player kind of nitpicked our way through part of Muzyka's PR statement? And how I commented as a totally off-topic thing that it is something one should be really, really careful about when translating, since it is so heavy with 'hidden' messages? Guess what, I found just a moment ago 'an article' about that statement, in which it was partially translated to Finnish. And not objectively so, I might add.
I bring this up, since
I'm really bored I'm still kinda pissed off how the game sites are treating us.
Luckily though, the commentators are calling out their biased BS.
”Joidenkin uskollisimpien pelaajiemme reaktiot pelin päätökseen yllättivät meidät perusteellisesti. Tämä on kuitenkin asia, jolla on meille merkitystä ja tulemme vastaamaan siihen.”
So this is from the paragraph saying something about us 'passionate fans' etc in the original. Funny thing is, it's translated to be more polite than it really was in English, in order to make the biased BS easier for the critic..
'
Joidenkin uskollisempien pelaajiemme reaktiot', does not under any circumstances mean what the source text said. It means something like
'The reactions of some of the more loyal gamers', which at least to me sounds a tad more respectful than the original.
After making the PR spin sound really consumer friendly and considerate, the writer decided to end his masterpiece of journalism with this:
Osa Mass Effect 3:n läpipelanneista on pettynyt teoksen epähollywoodmaiseen päätökseen, jossa asioita ei väännetäkään rautalangasta eikä kaikkeen annetakaan yksiselitteisiä vastauksia.
Some of the players who have finished ME3 have been dissappointed with the un-Hollywood-like ending, in which all things are not 100% explained and spoonfed to the gamer.
(the Finnish idiom 'vääntää rautalangasta' is close equivalent to 'do I need to draw a picture', and is pretty much never used in any polite exchange I can think of. the grammar also indicates that the spoonfed ending was what we were expecting, since we are dumb gamers who don't know any better, and sorry, it does not translate well, so I didn't even bother to try)
Why nitpick my way through this article you might ask? Well, the easy answer is: I'm a sick and bored English major with nothing better to do. Who also has lost any faith she might once upon a time had in the gaming media.
PS, I think the guy who wrote this article might have a bright future with IGN, he's condesending and rude enough.
