Something that has been bugging me for a while now but I couldn't put my finger on it. Then it came to me.
Why call the mega-macguffin the Crucible? If it was a weapon, why not call it the Hammer, or the Anvil?
And why Crucible, not Forge?
Crucible is a very specific word. I'd like to think it was chosen for a reason. I looked up the definition, just to be sure:
http://www.thefreedi...ry.com/crucible
Particularly I'm looking at the definition which says:
"A severe test, as of patience or belief; a trial."
Maybe BW had this in mind all along? That the Crucible wasn't a weapon as such. It was where Shepard would face a test of his beliefs and that test would determine if he was worthy enough to go on to destroy the Reapers?
Just thinking out loud.... don't lynch me! It just seemed a very particular word to use to describe something that was supposedly a weapon, that's all.
I have thought about this as well, but if that is what it really was then BW legitimatly gave us a game without an ending. If the Crucible was literally a dream at the end of the game then the breath scene would be where you got hit with the reaper beam. The war is not finished, Earth has not fallen or risen, the repears have not been repealed.
This would all be ok if this was the second game of a trilogy, or number three of four, but this is supposed to be the last game of this story arc.
So if you are right (personally I think you are) the ending, or lack thereof, still sucks.
