They're smart enough to realize that:
1) If they did, many people would (correctly) read between the lines that they were confirming the ending was a turd, and many more people would cancel their orders. Right now people are canceling their orders based on what LOOKS like the endings are. Providing any substance towards confirmation of that would result in a new batch of cancellations.
2) Anything they said, other than "Guys there is a happy ending [or other endings] you're all missing, we hid it, just hang on" would be picked apart ruthlessly and provide fresh ammunition to the discussion. They're just hoping the discussion will burn itself out and you'll fork over your money, which at the end of the day is all that matters.
The only hope we have, again aside from this being a massive pre-planned mega troll by hiding the good endings, is for word to get out after people play the final product (including all patches) and the reviews rip it apart, followed by people selling their copies back to retailers so sales which would otherwise have been of new games become used game sales instead (which would not benefit Bioware). At that point they'll do a DA2 and be forced to face that maybe they made a mistake.
