Phoenix fleet joining the ranks.

So after much debating, I've just decided to retcon the ending and write fiction for a better ending. It's actually been quite therapeutic. Lots of stress and frustration getting vented. And yet, I don't think I've cracked the tip of the iceberg

Though I do love the cupcake idea. That was a very unique and tasty rendition of comfort food from both sides of the line of scrimmage.

I did something similar and wrote my own ending. Whenever I get too down about ME3 I open it up and give it a quick read.

The thing is I can't one-shot it either.  It usually ends up being several chapters.  But sure does feel good.:wizard:

HA! I know exactly what you mean! I was trying and failing to write a different script and I just ended up opening a new window and writing about 20 pages non-stop. I actually wrote two endngs, one where Shepard lives and another where she dies. It was extremely theraputic. Even though I am still angry at the actual ME3 endings it definitely helped me move on.

The best part about my ending is there's no space magic! :wizard:

There is no space magic in mine either.  Some indoctorination, some grit and what not.  Pretty much the intro is her "waking" up not remember what happened but being badly wounded and trying to recollect the how's and why's of what the previous night's events entailed, while she's bleeding out.  It's definitely a work in progress and I posted it for some friends because they were curious what I could do with it on dA and FF. (Yeah I have no shame when it comes to self-promotion)

Nothing wrong with a bit of self promotion! Heck I've been poking around the terms and conditions trying to see if I can post a link to the podcast I recorded with my friend about the ME3 ending (he actually liked it...the weirdo!)

Besides I'd totally read your fan fiction, any ending with no space magic is worth reading. :D

Re: http://www.theverge....ng-media-broken comments

Again, I see people defending bioware's right to keep the ending, but no one defends the actual ending. Also, I had a writer, Darren Frannich, tell me personally in a twitter that I pay $60 *for the privilege* of playing their games, and the fact that I paid it doesn't mean I'm owed anything. Ever. Period. It was one if the most insulting takes on 'gamers have no rights.' (By the way, I've never argued tha Bioware owes me a better ending. I've argued that they owe Mass Effect, as what was to me the best video game trilogy EVER, a better ending.)

So in short, I see Bioware's responses to this fiasco and how defensive they are, and get annoyed. But I'm getting just as defensive at this point about my own rights as a consumer to voice my opinion. In that respect, at least, I feel a common thread with them on this whole situation.

Also, people keep saying shut up and vote with your wallet. Well, I'm prepared to do that. But it's really messed up. So I don't buy the next game (or any other) Bioware makes that I might have enjoyed because the ending of Mass Effect 3 ruined that game AND the other two games, for me? Who wins in that scenario? Not me, nor Bioware. Apparently that's the way everyone wants the gamer industry to work though. Thats just messed up.

so the cupcake thing already reached the goal? damn it.. i really wanted to donate for that.

but yes. 3:50am and i just managed to finish my mail.. 4,000 words is probably not a good thing.

also: the dress up as marauder in front of the bioware offices? sign me up for that. did start on a n7 armor replica this year but actually doubt that i'll ever finish it anyway.. marauder would actually be kind of nice to pull off.

4,000 words?!

The fact that the beginning and the end make no sense, while some of the individual quests are very well written provices VERY strong evidence for a thesis like this:

It was specifically those people who were responsible for the 'whole', that created this mess. They were most likely operating under considerations that had NOTHING TO DO WITH THE STORY: for example, "make sure the buyer who is new to the franchise doesn't get bored in the first 10 minutes! (otherwise he'd just return the game)".

This 'external intervention' is very obvious in the beginning of ME2 as well. There's a YT video that's on DJBare's list of links, where this is analyzed in some detail. The death and resurrection of Shepard takes place/is explained in terms of thematically isolated bits of '...just so...' reasoning, which suggests, again, that someone just inserted them into the story without much regard for what had been established in ME1.

Some of those 'insertions' may have taken place on EA's initiative (make sure you can fit that many DLCs in here; make sure there's enough explosions and over-the-top-awesomeness in the beginning), others, on the creative director's (we have to have this and this religious metaphor implemented here! we need to give precisely that kind of 'feeling' there, and so on.)

It's already difficult for people who create these games to have a 'unified' feel for particular stories, the way we as players are able to do. They have to work piecemeal, given the enormous amount of variables they have to take into consideration. (I think a very obvious example of piecemeal writing is the Liara romance in ME3. Most [certainly not all] of her behavior simply doesn't make sense for people who have 'romanced' her in ME1, and in LotSB.)

So people who are responsible for the 'whole' have to really, really care about how particular stories may unfold from that repository of possibilities, and really, really, really care about the thematic unity of the series. But instead, they seem to prioritize EA's concerns, and their creative contribution. In ME3, that kind of approach led to a disaster.

I think it's an outline of the leaked script? It was released in Nov 7 2011... bout the only "wow" I see is that it matches up.

It matches up to what the journal says in-game.

Basically meaning no change to the story since the leak.

The ending makes me feel like everything Shepard and co. did, all they sacrificed, was for nothing. These endings don't count as victory. It's just trading one horrible fate (the Reapers) for another one (the collapse of civilization)

It's called determinism. The ending of the game points to the fact that the cycle continues and no matter how hard you try, you can never stop it.

Try to remember to read things for fun - besides textbooks, and write things other than essays. Always helped me (that's assuming you have the time!)

I'd love to tell you what happens next. I really would. But unfortunately, the build was so incomplete that no matter what choice I made, the story wouldn't continue and after the cutscene of whatever I chose occurred I'd be right back where I started, ready to pick again.

So, bascially no change
