Sadly, my 9 y/o called out starkid when he saw him. His exact words were "pointless abomination", watched the ending and glanced at me like I'd done something wrong and said "What was the point of Sovereign? Don't ever do that again."
I was gobsmacked, but if a kid can see through the fluff why couldn't the writers???

Children can be considerably more perceptive than adults and if your 9 year old has been following your adventure then his anticipation will be a hero's ending, and I mean the hero that rises out of the rubble and stands proud, I can imagine how confused he was by the ending, it did not fit with everything he had observed upto that point.Nevara wrote...

OMGoodness that made me laugh a lot, your 9 y/o saw through the crap and the writers didn't, just proves my point though that kids are smarter than we give them credit for
He sat through all three games, knows the lore, characters, enemies. He's a smart cookie. Sadly, I did new game plus in hopes of something different and I told him about it. He just shook his head as he watched muttered that if that was the ending was the same and if it were different it didn't exist accept in the writer's mind.
He's too dang smart for his own good. 3rd grade taking 8th grade english classes so he knows his stuff. Loves to read about science and astronomy. Wants to do astrophysics like me. I can't help but get all pigeony puffy chest when I think about it.

I agree totally on that. We have some pretty open dialogue in this house. I had explained to him that there was the possibility that Shep might not come out alive and he shrugged and went "if her sacrifice meant something, then its the was worth it."
The kid had enough foresight to realize it was a possibility and accept it with strings attached.
Now when he sees my husband play he argues about the improbability of the synthesis idea.
I bought him a cake. :innocent:

Awww that's brilliant, smart little guy. Maybe you should take him to Edmonton (sp?) and get him to have a go at the writers of Mass Effect, he's probably smarter than them lol.

He's writing his own ending to the series to give it a proper send off. I can't wait to see what he comes up with.

"And boy did they get mad."
I just had a freakin flashback to a week ago where despite the courtesy and civility people were practically out for blood. I could throw a manequin that said Bioware in the middle of this and it'd be torn limb from limb in just a few seconds.

My 9 y/o was the same. He watched the ending with me and asked me what the hell had just happened, before listing many of the points that we have all mentioned. He was very offended at the thought of Joker running away.Nevara wrote...

Cooler heads are prevailing, for the most part. Tensions are at a low boil, but since there's nothing really going on we're stuck in limbo. I think that's more frustrating (the not knowing) than knowing bad news.
