I couldn't resort to such cruelty.:innocent:  Having him go see a vorcha sex tour might equate to watching a snuff film.  Great until the ending when it all goes to hell and ends up bad for everyone... like ME3:wizard:

Writing has to be part insanity, part creativity, part emotion with a dash of magic.

Otherwise you get the ending to ME3 with all space magic and an angry fanbase.

You forgot to add hard work to the list.

A lot of people (myself included originally) seem to think that writers sit down for five minutes and then bash out a story. In reality even if you know where everything is going and what you want to happen you still have to stop, read what you wrote and think hard about if it all fits and makes sense.

This is why people usually look at stuff they wrote years before and cringe - they didn't stop and look at what they had been writing with a critical eye.

Which is a learned skill.  And I agree with you on all points.  It is a lot of hard work to put a story together (whether ff or original).  But writing is a skill that is ever changing and improving for the writer which is why it's all the more rewarding; whether it be for personal reasons or profit.

And most importantly it as labor of love,  to put that time and work into a story, going over every little detail.   I think you get better as get older because the life experience comes in the play.  You understand the emotions that you want your characters to feel and how to get the feeling acroos.

STOP TELLING ME TO HOLD THE LINE

i keep getting restraining orders from some lines
sexual harrasment suits from other lines
and to top it off some types of line can get me jailed for having illegal drugs

i hold the FRONT line

Unfortunately, holding the front line will probably get you in more trouble then holding the rear line.

There is something bugging me about me3... the prothean have been dead... okay..
The reapers needed some century to kill them from the galaxy... how much time passes from the earth attack to the end? o_0 How is possible that all of this is so fast? o_o

To keep myself busy until PAX so I have something to do other than check the forums every 10 minutes, I'm going to start rewriting the ending to what I wanted to see happen/what I wanted to see happen afterwards( I have never done this before, wish me luck!)

Liara said it wouldn't take as long to kill "our" cycle because "we" weren't as far spread as the Protheans.

Edit: Also just because Earth was the Reapers first stop doesn't mean they weren't going to destroy the rest of the galaxy, remember Earth was just the first place they were annihilating.

But... seeing how much you need to travel to gather forces/war assets/resources it seems strange (a little)

I have decided to hold the line until 4/13 at which point, if there is no clear direction, I am trading in my copy towards Witcher 2...

I weren't talking about that.
But if earth is their first stop, it takes how much? Lesser than two months to conquer all the galaxy for the reapers? o_0 Even if we aren't developed like the prothean it's a big time-gap difference

I think writing gets better as people get older because you become more mentally orginised. Certainly I have found that the practice I got/get from RPG writing helps in creating a more critical outline much faster.

You can see this with famous writers who have produced several books. If you look at Patrick O'Brian (Master and Commander series of books) and Terry Pratchet (Discworld series), their first few books are somewhat disjointed and a little chaotic. Their later books are more orginised, and better for that, as they get used to the style needed. Some of the best Discworld books (Feet of Clay, Hog Father) were written at a blinding rate - I think this was when Mr Pratchet was churning out a new book every six months - yet unlike the first two books (which I think he wrote over several years) they are not remotely chaotic...apart from those parts that were meant to be chaotic.

I was just thinking about some of the arguments used to defend the ending and I think I've found another plot-hole or two:

An argument for the ending says that the starchild doesn't control the Reapers, he just made them and gave them their directive. yet, when you meet the starchild he says that he controls the Reapers. Exact words: "I control the Reapers. They are my solution." He then gracefully admits defeat, yet if you take too long the Crucible is destroyed. How is that? The Reaper's controlling influence just surrendered, why are they still attacking? He's effectively going "oh, hey, you're here. Guess that means I've lost but I'm going to let my unstoppable robot army keep killing your species and allies OK?" It makes no sense (which isn't that unusual given the materia)

Second thing: his reasoning. Yes we've got the whole "Yo dawg, ..." meme already, but I've got a different angle. Say the Geth revolted and fulfilled the starchild's prediction. They killed the Quarians and set out to kill all organic life. The rest of the galaxy would be screwed. Why? Because they are at a similar technological development level. The Geth wouldn't need to research new tech to understand the enemy's capabilities, they already know it and can defeat it. However, the Protheans were at a higher tech development level. They were close to figuring out the Mass Relays (something the current cycle is nowhere near to) and have a rifle that uses energy the current cycle hasn't been able to convert to a portable weaponized form. They would have the tech advantage over the Geth and would be able to eradicate them. Unfortunately, the Reapers killed the Protheans, therefore allowing the Geth to succeed at what the Reapers were meant to stop (because they didn't check in for a few millenia). Also, even if an advanced race created a synthetic race that went bat**** crazy, they could just uplift the "primitive" races to help. Given enough time, the number of different species would overwhelm the synthetics due to differing tactics, physiology, and sheer numbers; the Rachni War being an example of how this would work. But no, they've got to kill the organics and risk the Singularity happening while they're all developing sleep disorders and dreaming of Harbinger ASSUMING DIRECT CONTOL out in darkspace.

You know... if you play me1 the words sovereign give you on Virmire are pretty similar to the starkid.
However if you look about it (end of me3), it seems strange their solutions. They haven't really foresee anything... there are so much choise that can be done. So, everything feels so strange about the starkiddo =/

Oooh I think I totally misunderstood what you were saying (man I must be more tired than I thought)

But yeah I was actually wondering this aswell, how long is Shepard getting war assets ect?
Is there maybe a timeline thing in the Codex like there was in ME1?
