Maybe we should get him a blue-green-red Isetta...
that would work.

Hold the line brothers and sisters!

Btw, this

is a wonderful read!

I still can't wrap my head around why they didn't stick to the original dark energy plot....

Just stumbled on this in another thread on these forums,
Reaping the Harvest of Poor Choices
It's quite a read.

This is the most cool headed and concrete review I ever read. Thanks for sharing the link.

"...Topping all of this is off, the entire affair seems to be a vain attempt at symbolism ala the similarly jarring conclusion to 2001: A Space Odyssey rather than offering even the minutest form of concrete closure. As there is no novel to turn to that explains what they were trying to attain and the steaming mess that exists is as disconnected from sense as it is, the endeavor rings hollow as metaphor.

To quote Roger Ebert for a moment: “If you have to ask what it symbolizes, it didn’t.” This conclusion is on the short list for “things that ruin dreams”, right up there with “discovering that Santa isn’t real because your dad dressed up like him and died” and actually manages to steal the disappointment crown from Lost. It’s bad enough that fans have formed a protest group against it, complete with a conspiracy theory and memetic hero trumpeting their cause: forcing BioWare to change the ending.

Normally, I’d find it wrong to support consumer demand altering authorial intent just to fit the vociferous opinion. Except in this case, the authors simply aren’t justified by the “statement” made. Asidefrom being a hackneyed mess of bad ideas running counter to everything this series has stood for, the sheer tonal shift prevents absorption for someone paying attention the inability to convey intent is the definition of failed art.

For anyone with perspective, I know I’m belaboring a point – a bad ending can ruin all, from prose to play – but the sad fact is: no other professional review of Mass Effect 3 factored this ending into their universally positive ratings for the game, even though many acknowledged it as a problem. Not being one to claim conspiracy is to blame, I’d rather point to the more obvious culprit: ineptitude. A critic that can’t realize that narrative is often as important as gameplay – especially in an RPG – and that poorly constructed endings tarnish narrative quality. especially as it is the last thing the audience sees – is a poor critic indeed.

The gestalt of Mass Effect 3is an end unjustified by its means, unworthy of defense. During its final moments it commits storytelling suicide, and the taste of decay it leaves in the mouth cripples the otherwise impeccable quality of what came before, poisoning even nostalgia against it. At best and being fairto the game’s other traits, the quality comes out a wash – simply mediocre.

Casey Hudson, the Director of the Mass Effect series, said in a recent interview that he wanted the endings to be “memorable.” I think he succeeded. We will remember it, nay, we need to remember it. After all, those who forget the history of bad ideas are doomed to repeat them."

Indeed. Maybe Bioware should trust professional reviewers in future.

Don't know if it's already been posted but.........

Just read this from Yahtzee over in the escapist and i will let you lot make up your own minds from what he says in his extras bit. He does touch on the whole closure issue with a set of still's (like the endings in DA:O) but doesn't think we deserver the endings to be re-written........ makes me wonder if has looked at the Indoc Theory stuff currently bouncing around all over the place.

Oh and also Moviebob has done something about the whole ME3 ending stuff as well on the escapist and i'm sure he will insult our intelligence levels about this whole thing and call us a bunch off whiny children.

Still havent seen much in the way of news about the Cupcakes from the people over at IGN and Penny Arcade.

Yatzhee has never seemed to care about Mass Effect too much, so his article was no surprise. HIs article is of no consequence because it's a "I respectfully disagree" article (well, as respectful as he gets). MovieBob, on the other hand, clearly hasn't done much research. Though really, this also isn't surprising; he constantly forgets games don't work like movies, thinks Uncharted is the best story the Western world could create for this medium, and has weird ideas about the "risks" of consuming (In short, you paid for it, deal with it). Thankfully, the comments are ripping him to shreds.

IGN and PA are staying quiet because we've dismantled all their arguments so far; they're trying to think of some way to continue to counter us in a respectful manner without devolving into using ad homine- oh, wait.

So my friend just finished, and he liked the endings, but from what he's saying I don't think he's really thought about them that much. In fact, he may have only watched one of the endings so far and not bothered to look into it any further. Can we get a pool going for how long it is until he cracks?

They can't make money by alienating their customers and destroying customer loyalty. In business world new fans are not enough for steady business and income. You can't dare to lose your established customer base. So if they don't care people like me will find another company to buy games and Bioware/EA will lose profit. It is their choice.

You just hit the nail on its nose.. or head
Just look at other companies, let's take a car manufacturer at example:
There are always people who will stick to their car brand, not only because their product is superior to others, also because they like how they are making the car, its design and technology. These people will stick on buying these cars. Now if such a company makes horrible mistakes (not speaking about simple recalls because some electronics ain't working - noone is perfect) their reputation is badly damaged. Now if long-term fans and followers don't want such cars anymore, even other, new potential customers refrain from buying, too.
So in the long term they are even more damaged.
It doesn't take much imagination to reflect that onto the gaming industry....
tldr: if there are long term fans turning away from a company, new ones will most certainly do so, too.

It is unfortunate that no matter what, the endings will be memorable!, even if Bioware manages by some miracle add to the endings and satisfy most of the 80% fans, these endings will never be forgotten, it's scar they will carry for a long time.

I have the app.  I have a note from my LI that corresponds to just before or just after the Cerberus Base mission (some comment about not getting sleep, reason unspecified).  Not one message implies anything about post-ending survival.

Can someone show an example?  I think I got cheated!

Any my point proven - on the ME3 app for Ipad - people reported getting messages from LI after they finished the game - it was all over BNS caused a lot of confusion - sec....

As I said - seriously wasted and screwed up PR - if that has been on windows and android.......instead of 1% platform for their gamers - I don't we'd have this PR nightmare we are having now.......

Nobody really has an argument to use against us, though. I mean what are they saying? We're entitled? The game is art? Neither of those things address the massive problems that need fixing, nor do any counter-arguments address the problems all of us keep bringing up again and again.

My faith in humanity dims a little when people argue against a cause without even bothering to mention the actual problems we're bringing up in the first place.. they're just fighting us like it's the cool thing to do.
