to address this whole "it's art" point:The thing is, art is something that radiates the artist, the person who creates that piece of art. If 100 people walk by and a single person is captivated by whatever that piece radiates, it's art. But videogames aren't trying to capture one person. A videogame should make sure that all 100 people that play that game should enjoy the service provided by that videogame. It's something of a service. It's not art. But I guess the way of providing service with that videogame is an artistic style, a form of art."

Nobody really has an argument to use against us, though. I mean what are they saying? We're entitled? The game is art? Neither of those things address the massive problems that need fixing, nor do any counter-arguments address the problems all of us keep bringing up again and again.
My faith in humanity dims a little when people argue against a cause without even bothering to mention the actual problems we're bringing up in the first place.. they're just fighting us like it's the cool thing to do.
That's probably what they are doing. I wouldn't take it so hard though; you know what the general public are like.
It boils down to this; even though some of us have our differences of opinion on certain things, we're all willing to stand next to each other and say to the developers that this just isn't on. When queried about our beliefs we are able to back them up with eloquent and cogent arguments that are always valid. Whatever argument they put to us, we are able to respond with coherent answers. On the other hand, most of those in the opposite pool always revert back to the "but it's art", "you're whiny and entitled" and "you're going to destroy the game industry".
These opinions are those voiced by a minority of critics and are echoed by their mindless followers because they have nothing valid which they can come up with themselves. On the other hand, pretty much everyone in our corner arrived at their similar decision about this debacle on their own. They didn't finish the game and then look for a side to pick. They came here because they felt exactly the same as we did and while their arguments may be similar, their words are most certainly not. At the end of the day it seems to be more like a contest between those capable of free thought and those who have to have their thoughts and opinions dictated to them by people who have no real authority to do so.
Maybe I'm too cynical, but frankly I'm not in the least surprised at the reactions we have been getting from these people.

Hi guys,
I've come here to apologise. I only finished Mass Effect 3 this morning, but even before then I'd seen a furore about the endings - and dismissed it. "I bet it's a bittersweet ending and everyone's just put out because they wanted to get the unambigous happy ending" I thought. I thought it couldn't be that bad. Well, I finished it and although I thought the deus ex machina was ridiculous, the choices arbitrary and the outcome vague, I thought it was mostly alright.
Don't worry about it. I stopped playing shortly after I heard the words "Star Child" and realised that there was no way around it. So I just did most of the game, spent the night with Liara, and then said to hell with the rest. Because, you know, I was in bed with Liara.

i started to think that the ending was a massive PR stunt after i saw so many videos, so many theroys and most of al, the silence from bioware.
they knew we would kick up a stink BUT they never knew that it would hit international news and more,
they never knew it would then affect sales
they never knew it would affect EA stock
they never knew that EA AND AMAZON would offer full refunds
yep bioware did a PR stunt thats went so bad they cant bring themself to say "sorry we screwed up".
we DO KNOW the voice actors behind the male and female shepards have now been pulled in AHEAD of schedule for the DLC recordings due to the uproar this PR stunt has done.
i think bioware will announce a DLC which will answer EVERYTHING (as far as we know).
at PAX i think bioware will come clean in some shape or form and admit they made the ending the way it is to make cash.
IF they did admit it then EVERY other buisnessman, game developer even mainstream websites were all right in what they collectivly said "this is the worst buiseness stratigy EVER created" (well they all said it diffrent ways but they all mean the same thing)
but lets hope bioware gets some major heat at PAX, lets see them all sweat
As I said earlier - BW came out - Look - we hinted but not enough - we wanted to immurss you even more into the game - we have full dlc ending - its almost done or is done etc - I said it better before a couple pages back......
Its Free - its coming to you guys/gals - I hope you understand what we tried to do etc.......
I'd stand back and applaud them - I think most would too and understand what they were trying to do......When business starts to actually realise just how smart gamers are - the fact that we don't play by the old business rules nor will we. Talk to us freely - we will understand - we may not like the answers we get......
I don't think BW was planning on charging for the ending - I do think they tried to pull off an insanely brillant stunt; but they ran out of time.....
Without that app on other platforms - there was no way to spread the PR - that is where they failed.....

I agree with Connery on this one. If they are to take flak at PAX, they will probably be less open to ending ideas. I can only hope that everyone can keep their cool; I can already see the headline of "Ungrateful Fans Make a Scene At PAX, Insult Bioware Staff," or if "Hold the Line" becomes the next "USA" chant (although that might actually be fun to see).
For everyone going, remember to keep it civil and respectful.

http://www.forbes.co...ss-effect-fans/I've been predicting to myself until now that the outcry to Mass Effect 3 endings is going to create huge changes in the gaming industry, whether they be good or bad remains to be seen, but I like to think it will be good, such as closer colaboration with the fans. The New Yorker is right – games will never get the respect they deserve unless they can own up to being the kind of art that they are. But the mistake is in thinking that when they come out of the wash and emerge as art, they will look just like the other art forms we’ve grown accustomed to. This is something new, and the Mass Effect debate is about figuring out what it is.
If it didn't happen with ME - it would of happened at some point - but because of just how good ME story is - fans/gamers/customer's passion for this story + failed PR stunt = Catalist for revolution .....

The effects on EA's stocks are fairly minor, if you look at the long term trends. The last major fall in EA stock price was back in Febuary, ironically this seems to have come from having to admit that SWTOR wasn't doing quite as well as predicted. In the short term it seems that EA stock hasn't suffered much...in fact the current stock price seems to be higher than the average for the last month. I suspect this is because EA seems to have (understandably) distanced themselves from the whole affair, or at least managed to stay out of the lime-light.
Source for the comment about the Voice actors being called in early please. I know that the principal cast were scheduled to go back to do some recording from the interview in Forbes. However I got no impression from that, or anywhere else, that this was either unexpected or brought forward.
They would not 'admit to trying to make more cash' via a publicity stunt...or DLC or for that matter anything else. The resulting backlash from EVERYONE, including the media, would be so large it would make the outcry about the ending look like a walk in the park. Even those areas of the media who have been defending Bioware up to that point would be unimpressed at being played for fools...and turn their ire towards Bioware.
That really would finish the company off, regardless of the quality of any DLC they might release.
