I've never been to any convention either.
Rather work for sci-fi myself.
I got a group of three other students I work with, to build a very simple, stationary "exoskeleton-arm". Merely an elbow that can spin around one axis.
We got the electrics and controls so far, so the motor moves in regard of how much force you put on the sensors, but the mechanical structure is still in the making.
Went a bit over the line though..,we had found a motor that fits into our budget, but now that thing got so much power it might smash skulls if we aren't careful.
Damn...I did it again...I over-nerded.
