The evidence I've seen from the sales of DA;O, DA2,ME and ME2 indicate that the trend in games (or at least Bioware games) is for a fairly high first week sales with a drop of some 60-80% in the second week. These sales are, presumably, the 'hardcore' customers who will buy the game on the basis of it coming from Bioware as soon as they have the money and can get to the shops.

From the third week onwards however the trend is more interesting. Good games such as ME2 and DA:O show a rise in sales, while badly received games such as DA2 show a rapid fall in sales.

The explanation for this is word of mouth sales, which would appear to have a FAR greater impact on if the more casual (or just cash-strapped) players will go out and buy a particular game than most people realise. In fact it would appear that word of mouth sales are the single most important aspect as to if a game will sell well or not. DA2 outsold DA:O in both its first and second week of release...but DA:O sales took off after the third week where as DA2's didn't. The result was that DA:O sold something like 2 million copies (a figure that is off the top of my head) while DA2 didn't break a million.

Note; That is games sold NOT games shipped to suppliers. Games companies use the latter figure, figuring that most people will not see or understand the difference.

They are in some seriously trouble and need to pull a magic trick to get everyone or a few back. Heck, I am here holding the line and I don't even think I want to trust Bioware for my future games

Yeah. I remember the DA2 anger for the patches haha.   I was just saying I don't know if they need one for the PC in this case.  It might just be an ME2 thing on the consoles due to the permissions or something weird.

No, the bug is on the PC version as well - I can confirm this because I ran into it an hour ago with an imported Character from ME2&1.

Besides with all the clearing they need to do with patches with Microsoft and Sony it is more usual for them to address all known issues with a single patch, rather than a couple of single ones.

That is too true. I picked them all at one point or another. Each choice effected me far more than all of ME3's "endings"put together.

Charmander will always be my first and favorite though, funny how I wen't for the red option in both of these. Charmander was so much better than the destroy ending though...

P.S. I use the dark red because the regular one hurts my eyes....

Yeah, the counter arguements to Retake are just dumb in general because they refuse to see the big picture...

lol, nice gif.

It's always the same thing. They think all we want is a "happy" ending, and that all of us filed complaints with the FTC (even non Americans, lol). It would be nice if they educated themselves, instead of spewing talking points.

Yeah, while a lot of us want a happy ending thats not why we are mad...they need to actually open their minds an dsee what we are talking about...

Charmander. best fire type ever made, they've really brought the series down in recent years. Yes I've played all the games up to Black and White... I've got White version in my DS right now actually.

Squirtle and Charmander ftw...no one choose Bulbasaur and if they did they were the 1% :P

(keeping relavent) yes Bioware we are having a discussion on how choosing our first Pokemon ever was much more impactful then ur ending

Did anyone read 'Forever Free' by Joe Haldeman? Ya the ending to that sucked almost as bad as the ending of ME:3.
Also the so called 'Dune 7' (Hunters/Sandworms) was pretty bad.
I also remember the ending to the Rama series being a huge letdown.
The last two books in the Hyperion series bit the big one as well.

Anyone else remember other Science Fiction works with terrible endings?

Commander Squirtle would use his water gun to put out Charmander Shepard.

It makes me sad that my first choice of Pokemon was more important to me then the end of the me universe. Albeit they were equally colorful.

Yes, there are sales figures for both the first and second week of release. First week figures are good, second week figures show a 70-80% drop in sales - which isn't as alarming as it seems because this is quite usual for AAA titles. Even the Call of Duty series shows the same sort of drop off.

I don't think third week figures are available yet, I'll have to check tomorrow to see if they are up.

As to crippling losses. Well, if Bioware does release a good ending for ME3 then sales should stablize. The impression I'm getting overall is that for all its other faults the reason people are not buying the game is purely because of the ending - or to be more accurate the ending is resulting in poor word of mouth sales due to the bad ending. But, if the ending is fixed, and it is good, those same people would be quite happy to recomend the game to others. So the downward sales trend should even out in the long run - especially as the price of the game has now dropped just about everywhere. Based on DA:O and the total sales of ME2, I'd guess that if the word of mouth becomes positive the final sales figures could be not too far off some of the very biggest AAA titles, such as Call of Duty. Indeed I noted that from what I can tell for everyone who bought the game to date, there was at least one person they'd put off buying ME3 who intended to buy one or both of the earlier games. So a fixed ending could well see a jump in sales of the first two games..which in turn might offset some of the financial damage BW has almost certainly sustained at this point. Heck, the total sales of the entire series could potentially be equal to or higher than any of the Call of Duty games...and as for what would happen if they then decided to update ME1&2 to ME3's game engine and release all three as a single 'pack' with some extras....

But as I noted. The above only holds if Bioware fixes the endings as we have been asking so that the word of mouth becomes 'worth buying' rather than 'avoid'.
