As I said earlier in this thread, after my one play through of Mass Effect 3 I'll probably reinstall Icewind Dale 2 and Baldur's Gate 2 to remember the Bioware I loved. Then later probably lock myself in a dark room and silently cry as I mourn the death of my favorite game developer.

I can't stop reading these forums because it's comedy gold.

Maybe I'm internet sheltered but I've never seen a forum so chock full of borderline hysterical people.

1) Bioware does not want people ask for more Shepard Mass Effect games. This is why they do not allow a happy ending.

They could just have Shepard die no matter what, in all endings, but have the galaxy (and relay network) survive. Then, fans get a bittersweet ending (after all, the player character is dead), fans get a happy ending (after all, galactic civilization survived the reaper threat without losing the relays, and everyone can build for the future), Bioware gets rid of Shepard, and EA gets a viable intergalactic civilization in which to have Bioware set a ME MMO.

Everyone wins with this outcome, yet they wouldn't do this. <_<

That, and we've already been aware since ME1 that this would be the last entry in Shepard's story. They don't need to completely broadside us with these sorts of endings to get that point across, as most have already made their peace with that fact.

Oh but they want to change the setting and discourage fans from thinking of the old setting. Create a setting where it would be impossible for Shepard to take part in another game even if fans cry for it. They cut the cord... instead of untying the knot so to speak.

If you change the setting enough, how will it be a Mass Effect game?

I mean, it'll have the Mass Effect logo on the cover, but that's no more significant or meaningful than the Fair and Balanced logo that currently disgraces the Fox News symbol.

According to Jarret Lee - BW 's Edmonton, Canada rep:

Be excited, be very excited. Also, other than the attack on Earth, I think we'll try harder this time not to spoil things for you. By the time the game ships you'll be mad about the lack of story info.

RP talk for "If only you knew what waits for you at the end, you wouldn't buy it." ?

Let's just say YOU have a fair point there - however, my point is also fair I think, no company including BW wants to be upstaged before their release. If this were my bread and butter as this is for humdreds employed at BW if not even more they are follwing this thread here and are working around the clock world wide even as we speak. They have pride in their work as I did at least playing this series - and I'm willing to bet BW has more than one ace up their sleeve. They knew the danger of the Space edition and through their testers, as every other company does, and I do expect clearity os endings is the comkon goal even as we wite here.

You built up all of these characters and investments just to separate them and have them stranded!?

No kidding. So all the adventures of my Shepard, Tali and Garrus, from defeating Sovereign and destroying the Collector base together amount to a giant pile of nothing. No matter what,  they end up stranded on Gilligan's Deliverance planet to suffer a slow, horrible death because they're my Shepard's go to trusted team and best friends.

Sigh. These endings can shampoo my crotch.

Do you know why there was less variety in the first 2? Because they were building up to the third ME  , genius.

Not to be a pedant, but he also forgot there are two variants of the "Council dies" ending, one being the multi-racial new Council and the other being the human coup d'etat and installation of an all-human Council.

I agree and approve.  I like the one somone just did about mourning the Bioware they loved... how does one game with an ending you havn't even played yet kill a company?  Play 3 or 4 games from a company you love and if they all suck then mourn the old one.

I see your point, but I've been disappointed many times lately, by EA-held companies in one way or another, so I don't have much hope for something else right now.

Wow. Those endings are really, well...disappointing to say the least. If I wanted bittersweet endings, I'd watch war and genocide documentaries. When I play a game, especially a game where I supposedly can make the world a better place, I sure as hell expect to have one happy ending where everything is puppies, kittens and rainbows. I have so lost interest in ME3 and anything BioWare now. Oh well, should be used to disappointment at my age.

Yeah it is really funny because these endings have about as much variety as Mass Effect 1 and 2 did.
ME1: Kill council or dont
ME2: Save Collector Base or Dont.
ME3: Shpard Dies or doesn't/ galaxy lives or doesn't

Wait... OYG!!!  There's more ending variety in ME3 than in ME 1 or 2.  SHOCK!!!   :P

ME2: The whole team survives/Most of the team survives/Half of the team survives/Some of the team survives/A few of the team survives and Shepard reunites with the Normandy and it's crew/No one survives and Shepard dies.

Ah yes and in ME3 there will be any number of variations to the end I'm betting, itty bitty tiny things, based on who you get to come to your aide, how they do it, what your preparedness is, and all that.  And it will be exponentially greater than the variations of crew surviving in ME2.  What happens to each individual race?  To the individual planets that have as much personality as the characters, Tuchunka, Illium, Omega?  What happens to all those former crew members?  To NPCs from both games?  So much possibility all effected at the end of the game.

I admit, I'm still disappointed in the endings. And maybe I'm suffering from the stockholms.

But they at least have some hope left at the end. Shepard and the crew are dead/gone forever. But at least galactic society will be able to rebuild eventually, and the cycle has finally been broken.

Yes, this was an older article I found here:

In any case BW seems to be holding to no commnet as Lee suggest even in the face of this huge blowback. That alone makes me wonder if Lee wasn't on to something.

Woo just inadvertently confirmed we have the actual endings:

the endings are already being discussed in at least three different threads in this forum. Please join one of those. Thank you.

Not the supposed endings, *the* endings.

Given your name, do it. Cancel. If you find out you made a mistake, so what? You can still buy it.

Cancel your order of the guide if you can.  It'll all be on the internet in a few months anyways, I'm surprised Prima even still exists with the internet.

That is HILARIOUS.
Marketing people, PR people and politicians absolutely hate this thing called the "Internet" because it makes it super easy to look up things said in the past so they can be contrasted with subsequent realities.  The only thing worse than having that ability would be to have a central repository of said past promises and statements.  It's a wonder that thread either survived or went unnoticed for 9 hours.

i think the gameplay will be great, but on the other hand, i lost all faith in b-ware's ability to create a good story and ending (VIA DRAGON AGE 2). so it would not be surprising to me at all, if these are the actual ending's to the game. Bware did say "some fans may be angry with the ending". What they did not say, was 99% of the fans would be angry. Not really a wise business move on their part. if it is true
