SSV Mortis reporting in.

Thank's for looking after our Baby Krogen last night, hope he wasn't too much trouble....aww he's so cute when he tries to bite your face off isn't he? I see you changed his nappy, the resperators were a give away.

Anything to report while we give him his early morning IRS agent?

Bioware have possibly committed the biggest troll in internet history. Such a disappointing end to such a great franchise. I don't think their credibility can recover from this. Dragonage 2 was the first, this the second. Fool me once, shame on you - Fool me twice, shame on me.

Let's wait untill they give us offical word about their ending plans. If they ignore us, by all means give up on them and consider it trolling. But untill then, let's all remain positive retake members, mmm?

I mean we've already accomplished more than any other gaming protest ever has. We're actually changing the games industry itself here =]

 Not really ME related, but I found this somewhat interesting for the take on DLC and Corporate structure over at Ubisoft;

How things could have been different in ME3;

(On Mars)

Shepard; Give me your resourses and I'll take down the Reapers

TIM; You'd do better than most, but the odds are not in your favour. Besides, I don't want to destroy the Reapers. I want to control them, you've always had a problem looking at the bigger picture Shepard.

Shepard; Picture? Here, look at this. *Shows picture of Star child* Now look at this *Holds up picture of Justin Beaber*

*Long shocked pause*

TIM; Cerberous is yours Shepard.

So, a quick story to begin the day.

A friend of mine who I didn't see or hear from for a while caught me for a quick conversation today, opening up (well, after the usual "taxes, taxes" speech, which is almost like a ritual for us) with how cool it is that gamers are finally becoming fully aware consumers, not just - quoting here, not my words (translated from Polish) - "the eat crap and smile wildly crowd". He is an economy major (though he doesn't work in his line of work) and was fussing about gamers and their low-quality acceptance when it comes to storytelling since like 4 or 5 years, basically every time we talked about games.

Of course, after a minute or so it turned out that he is indeed talking about Retake ME3, he learned about it via the cupcakes thing earlier today (he didn't know about it before, though I'm not sure if he keeps tabs on the industry regularly) and that he actually registered to two sites this morning just to comment on the movement. I've just sent him a link to my comics and to all our community's initiatives, but I just wanted to share that - by pure chance - I've met someone today who really does appreciate what we are doing.

And Marcin, if you're lurking around these forums, just come out already. x)

So... Let's just hold the goddamn line, people. ;)

Shepard:- justin beiber controls the reapers

TIM:- commander ........heres a list of every cerberus base with suprime technology and WMD's, we do not want him to return, look how long it took us last time shepard, save us all

Shepard:- i will make sure he's dead this time

TIM:- i cant beleve i thought i could control them to save us

~camera pans round to see TIM shoot himself in the head~

I realised I've been part of a game for years that proves "artistic integrity" lines are a farce in games. EVE Online: Incarna. Something their game that the players hated, so CCP restructured their entire company over (Mainly the micro-transaction issues, but still, they changed more than just a game for it, they changed the company).

Yeah, its an MMO, which means it depends on people being happy with them (due to needing subscriptions)...but, that goes to show that gaming companies do need to change and adapt to what gamers want.

Also, another point, gamers like a sense of achievement. We like the feeling like we are actually achieving something in the end, however currently ME3 does not have that for us...we don't achieve anything...quite the opposite. The ending of ME3 effectively chastises us for playing. So really, I have to ask...how does that seem like a good idea to a company like BioWare?

Another 'not quite about ME3' link, although we are named in it.

Ever wondered why Forbes has been covering the ME3 story so well, considering it is better known as a financial magazine? Well the following link should explain it. Turns out that Forbes has been in the middle of rebranding itself over the 20 months...Oh, and if anyone asks why Forbes commenting on the ME3 ending debate is so important. Turns out that they had 30 MILLION unique hits on their website in a month...

Seems to me only BioWare can answer that question, because IMO it is just confusing and makes no sense.
Like you said we play games for a sense of achievement, not to feel betrayed and depressed.

EA isn't just an organization, or the ppl behind it! It's an idea! And as an idea it reached it's goal. To destroy the good and enjoyable games and shake every little penny out of them. Do not interfere with their plans player, I won't warn you again.

39 minutes video but totaly worth it. I saw it yesterday, once you get through the first minutes (dont skip them) you will see the guy has some strong points.
Please Bioware dont clarify the ending, just make it a mass effect ending.

If BioWare doesn't get its head together, I'm just going to rely on CCP. I mean, look at it this way...when players in EVE got pissed off over something CCP did, CCP flew OUR (gamers) elected leaders to Iceland to talk to the company about ways to appease us. CCP is much smaller than EA/BioWare and they do that.

BioWare is falling wayyy short of the mark.
Although I am not talking about BioWare's silence, all gaming companies do that when trouble starts. I'm talking about the companies actions as a whole.

Well you are very 'optimistic', so to say.
Dunno if we're 'changing' industry here. I'm pretty sure the thing like that happened already. Size is the only difference. Thanks to Forbes and else, of course, but htat is not really important. For example, appliance to the US Trade Comittee or whatever it was isn't a good move. And whatever we do, it is only us that we really change. It is obvious that creators/sellers/distributors/developers whoever you say do react to the market (what do we have for the me3 third sales week?). What we do here is shaping this outlook into market as we are the ones making the market so our opinion effectively shapes the market. And it's up to BW, EA to react however they want.
It's also nice to understand that video games aren't that much different from Conan Doyle's stories if we look at it from the point of 'fans affecting authors'.

*Nods*

Lets be honest, the majority of those looking at Forbes online are probably not there looking at news about the Gaming Industry beyond stock prices. However it does seem highly likely that a large number of visitors will have caught the news, even if it is only the headlines, over the last month.

Also consider that this 30 million per month figure will constitute a rather large number of businessmen/women and investors. While they may not be interested in the games industry as gamers, they certainly are interested in investments (off the top of my head I think the gaming industry made as much if not more money than Hollywood last year) and in business practices. Forbes highlighting the debate will have most likely resulted in some wondering if the current business model Games companies are using is going to be viable in the long term, making them more careful of investing in some of the larger companies that don't seem interested in changing or incapable of changing. It is also going to result in many a business reconsidering how they deal with their customers in future - The LAST thing any business would want is a similar level of customer backlash Bioware has had to deal with...one that *seems* to have shredded many former models for PR and damage control tactics companies have been using.

It would be interesting to see how many companies outside the gaming industry have taken notice of the discussion, and looked at it in depth to see what lessons they can learn from it.
